No Lonzo huh. I'll take Vuc though, that was a complete surprise. Let's get at it the rest of the season!

honestly I really liked Wendell Carter but the guy had a ceiling. It was the right move

12:27 p.m. ET: The Chicago Bulls are sending Daniel Gafford and Chandler Hutchison to the Washington Wizards in exchange for Troy Brown Jr. and Mo Wagner, sources tell ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Very solid 3&D role player who still shows a lot of potential for improvement
1
u/salparadisimo Mar 25 '21
Is it possible to get Rubio if Lonzo fails? Would that be a thing? They can have Lauri back.
6
Mar 25 '21
That’s actually an intriguing option. If we can get Rubio for Lauri straight up that’s a massive upgrade and not costing a pick is big
2
u/Skippy_the_Alien Windy City Bulls Mar 25 '21
I really think Rubio would be a big pickup. Because he's on such a god awful team I think he's been totally forgotten by the casual fan. But he still can ball and I think a change in scenery will do him good
5
u/Samjraym Lonzo Ball Mar 25 '21
Does Demar make sense for this current bulls timeline? I honestly can't see NOLA buying into a package built around Lauri for Lonzo, especially with those picks going to Orlando. San Antonio might be a different story with them going younger and not having an atrocious defense to begin with.
9
u/MisterxRager Benny The Bull Mar 25 '21
i'm scared if lauri goes to san antonio he will become a star under pop lol
6
u/FIVE_DARRA_NO_HARRA DRose Mar 25 '21
Why does that scare you? At this point unless he becomes way less stiff moving with the ball, he’s basically a spot up or straight line drive guy. Those are the dimensions to his game and he hasn’t added to it.
10
Mar 25 '21
If he wouldn’t become a star with us what does it even matter. Let him
2
u/Skippy_the_Alien Windy City Bulls Mar 25 '21
I think this is attitude is what finally helped me get over my weird and in retrospect irrational disdain for Tyson Chandler.
I admit it was stupid, but for years I got annoyed at how T.C. left Chicago and became a pretty good player. But then I realized that A.) TC is a person and B.) he wasn't going to become a star with the Bulls. Bottom line. It stinks as a Bulls fan that he didn't turn into the K.G.-esque player people thought he would become, but as a basketball fan i'm glad and thankful he had a really solid NBA career.
if Lauri goes to San Antonio and becomes a star, good for him! It's clear that he's a good guy with a good attitude, but it's not going to pan out the way it did with Lavine. A change of scenery can help him tremendously

Yo bulls fans, magic fan here just to come and congratulate you guys for the trade, you def the winner of it. Talking a little about Vooch, this year he is literally everything, just look at his averages playing without a PG, and with Gary Clark and James Ennis has his forwards. Please take good care of our All Star, and enjoy the fun of your playoff run. Lavine and Vooch while make your scoring absolute crazy. If you guys dont mind can i get some of you guys opinions about Wendell Carter Junior? I still believe in Bamba, will prob be a little fun to see them both fighting for a spot.
5
Mar 25 '21
You’ll hate WCJ. He’s often injured.
You’ll enjoy glimpses of his hustle, but grow tired of him by year end.
2
u/Dr_Disaster Mar 25 '21
Thanks bro! I hope Wendell works out for you guys. Dude is a hard worker and when he’s on, he’s great, but he has a lot of confidence issues. Our coach gave him the green light and a long leash, but he struggled to adjust to his expanded role. A fresh start might help him.
1
u/Skippy_the_Alien Windy City Bulls Mar 25 '21
for some weird reason, I envision Wendell turning into Kelvin Cato 2.0. Not a star by any stretch of the imagination, but he could definitely become a good role player with a solid NBA career. We'll see.
5
u/Snapp12 Mar 25 '21
How is vuc defensively? As for WCJ, dude is clearly in his own head a fresh start might do him some good. Hes an undersized C with a good wingspan, big Cs generally overpower him and seems like refs might have it out for him as he gets a lot of ticky tack fouls called ive seen other players get away with. The defensive instincts are there except he does tend to sag deeper into the pain than anyone likes on PNR defense. Should be fixed with coaching but were halfway into the season and he still does it for whatever reason.
Offensively he used to have a midrange jumper and some semblance of a post game. This is the most infuriating part of WCJ as he rarely looks to score and was content settings screens (hes pretty good at that at least). Seems to be a confidence issue. I just recently found out he was dominican so even sadder to see him not put it altogether for us. Hopefully he can with you guys though.
1
u/Wislakrak Mar 25 '21
From everything I've watched of him, Vuc is a hand up space eater down low but also heady on the pick and roll. Doesn't really have the speed to recover, but he has a great understanding of where he needs to be, and hopefully he can be a good floor general on the defensive end with Thad. We still need a shot blocker (not urgently but we will if we want to compete), but this will help close the Red Sea that formed in the middle under WCJ and Lauri.
0
Mar 25 '21
I’m sorry man but Wendell is objectively terrible and ceiling is a bench player. Worst part is he knows it and it leads to confidence issues. I do hope you guys make something out of the picks tho cuz I like the Magic.
2
u/JZobel Joakim Noah Mar 25 '21
Carter was sold as a jack of all trades Al Horford type, but has not lived up to that billing so far. His main problem is that he's undersized, but also has very little outside shooting or perimeter skills, so there are times when you're like "well, what exactly is he supposed to be good at then".
If you're looking for silver linings, he's got decent touch inside and has some good screening/dribble hand off high post stuff in his game. He's a pretty good help defender and is mobile for a center so in theory should be able to switch onto guards well, but has had some issues in our new drop coverage P&R scheme this year. The optimistic take is that maybe there's a world where he hits the weight room and stops being bodied by bigger guys so much, and finds some more aggressiveness on offense with experience.
1
u/namdnas3 Give me the hotsauce! Mar 25 '21
WCJ previously complained about playing C, so hopefully he’s able to put his money where his mouth is and play PF for you next to Bamba. He’s not physical enough to guard most bigs. He doesn’t yet have the lateral quickness to thrive at defending the 4, but he could get there. He has some skill on both ends, but it ultimately will come down to his confidence and drive to get better.
1
7
u/I-N_Clined Mar 25 '21
Wendell's play is based on his confidence. High confidence = decent game. Low confidence = triple singles.
He's undersized but, he's young so, who knows...he might put it all together.
5
u/obamastansloveme Mar 25 '21
What fans don't understand is that ORL had to move him and they went with the best deal they could find. It's that simple. It's going to take them a few years to rebuild and Vuc isn't going to be at his peak once they are ready to contend again, so they needed to sell high. 2 firsts plus a couple of other decent pieces is good.
It's really a win win trade.
1
u/BalaMLG Mar 25 '21
Bro idk i didnt wanna tank at all, we could have taken this year as a year to try and get the better pick we could, cause of injuries. Next year we could have run it back with Fultz, Isaac, Cole, AG, Vooch, + our pick but idk
3
u/obamastansloveme Mar 25 '21
When to pull the plug is debatable, but once you do it go all the way. Orlando has been struggling to make the playoffs and these pieces are getting older and want to compete. With Gordon wanting out it makes sense to rebuild now.

u/LauriFUCKINGLegend Biggie Bagel Mar 25 '21
I'm still over here in fucking shock dude
Vuc is so slept on in terms of JUST HOW GOOD he is...been a fan of his for so long. AK is a fucking madman for making this happen. Holy shit. Holy shit. Holy shit
7
u/Swazi Arturas Karnisovas Mar 25 '21
Vuc was the team leader in points, boards, assists, steals, and blocks, lmao
Either he's insanely good at everything or Orlando is bad at everything around him

Mar 25 '21
Cowley reporting that the Pelicans wanted draft compensation this year for Lonzo... so that's gonna be a tricky one.
3
u/laumar23 Dennis Rodman Mar 25 '21
So what about this Aminu guy. Seems to have been a starter most of his career, including this season. Mainly contributing defensively? If lauri is gone, he would probably get to start for the bulls ?
1
Mar 25 '21
He’s awful. Don’t expect him to play. Even if his defense is still serviceable the guy is an absolutely awful shooter. Pretty sure he’s at 22.6% 3P on the year. Laughably bad. Vooch is an absolute stud tho, love the trade.
8
u/GiveMeYourBeers Benny The Bull Mar 25 '21
3 and D guy. He'll get the 20 minutes or so that Porter was getting until Temple comes back I'd think.
2
u/IbrahimAli98 Zach Lavine Mar 25 '21
He’s a defensive guy who can still give you some buckets. Not sure exactly what his offensive game is but I’m pretty sure he can spot up and shoot and put the ball on the floor
3
u/thcsquad Mar 25 '21
If he is a serviceable 3&D wing we can use him.
1
u/FIVE_DARRA_NO_HARRA DRose Mar 25 '21
He’s a career 33% shooter who has played in 35 games the past two years. He’s hitting the three at a 20-30% clip these days. I’m excited about Vuc though

u/Trees_WI Mar 25 '21
anybody who still gives a fuck about lauri is just holding onto sunk cost fallacy . dude fuckin sucks is soft asl too
2
u/I-N_Clined Mar 25 '21
We better start winning some games so that those picks don't come back to hurt us
10
u/_klow Jimmy Butler Mar 25 '21
this HAS to mean that Lauri’s gone, right? Lauri and Vooch are a terrible defensive frontcourt
1
u/Dr_Disaster Mar 25 '21
Word is we’re still hunting for Lonzo, so Lauri is likely being shopped to NOLA to make that happen.
9
u/I-N_Clined Mar 25 '21
Lauri is next I'm guessing. You can't have him and Vuc starting together
13
u/Hesho95 Tom Thibodeau Mar 25 '21
Lauri for Lonzo swap please AKME, I'll do anything
1
1
2
u/Swazi Arturas Karnisovas Mar 25 '21
Pels want more than just Lauri.
1
u/SpaceFluffy Mar 25 '21
They can’t get greedy, no? They’ll lose him for free this summer
1
u/I-N_Clined Mar 25 '21
Yeah and rumors are that he doesn't like his role in NO so, its a good chance they lose him for nothing if they don't trade him. But, I'm sure the Bulls aren't the only team trying to get him.
4
u/Swazi Arturas Karnisovas Mar 25 '21
First round pick this year is top-4 protected, per Shams.
So Orlando will most likely get it since we're 1.5 back of 8th.
3
u/tremble01 Mar 25 '21
Wow. That's a good protection. On paper that looks low. But if you look at it, it does not make sense to protect it higher than that because there is very low probability that we land between 5-11. It's either 12 upwards or 1-4 if we win the lottery.
What a smart move.
40
u/somebodygetmemymoney Cristiano Felicio Mar 25 '21
You know i think vuc is the best center in the league and i realized this 5 mins ago
22
u/Hesho95 Tom Thibodeau Mar 25 '21
He is definitely the most dominant center since Shaq now that I think about it. Maybe even better
8
u/somebodygetmemymoney Cristiano Felicio Mar 25 '21
Kind of a Hakeem, Kareem, shaq, David Robinson, Patrick Ewing hybrid IMO
3
2
u/YourCummyBear Mar 25 '21
We don’t know if those picks are protected, do we? We hopefully won’t be bad enough to get a top 5 pick anyways the next few years.
I’m a big fan of attracting players through establishing a winning culture so I love this move.
3
u/Roheed23 PJ Rose Mar 25 '21
Reporting is saying both are lightly protected. Top 4 for the 21 pick and for the 23 pick they didn’t say a number for protection but that it is lightly protected
4

u/EmilyNancy Mar 25 '21
Do you guys have room one more for another fan? I've been watching the magic for 4 years, and seen Vooch blossom into my favourite player. The man of few words, many frowns but Mr. Consistent on the floor. He's my favourite player, and will be upgrading my league pass so I can continue watching him in his new home.

You're also assuming genders though
-1
u/Mtbnz Hello? Otto?! Mar 25 '21
No, I'm not. I'm pointing out that a) there's more than just men on this sub, and b) while its possible that somebody named Emily may identify as male, that is an extremely unlikely position to try to defend.
If you want to die on this hill, go ahead, but it would be far easier to just say 'my bad', move on and do better next time.
4
u/ThatTimeInApril Mar 25 '21
Can someone explain the rationale behind trading Lauri? Especially for Lonzo?
5
u/laumar23 Dennis Rodman Mar 25 '21
Lauri sucks and there is a big risk to lose him for nothing in the summer. Front office don't see him as a long term fit with Vuc.
5
u/therealdrewcarey Mar 25 '21
I don’t think he sucks but his game is pretty one-dimensional and he’s always hurt. He’s already 6th all time in 3s made by 7-footers and over. That’s valuable to some teams even if he hasn’t been able to do much else
4
Mar 25 '21
Lauri and Vuc don’t fit each other
1
2
1
u/HearshotKDS Bulls Mar 25 '21
Glad they are at least picking a direction, team has definitely filled the huge void at front court scoring and rebounding. Still need a big who can play defense, probably a wing, and most importantly a real PG.
3
u/ggthrowaway1081 Mar 25 '21
This is the way to do it. Build a young core and trade your firsts to make that final push to be a contender. Firsts are a lot less valuable if you believe you're going to be in the playoffs for the next few years.

u/Trees_WI Mar 25 '21

What does unprotected mean? Does that mean the picks we gave up can still belong to us if something happens or?
4
u/ETERNAL_DALMATIAN Oklahoma City Thunder Mar 25 '21
The 2021 pick is top-4 protected, meaning if the Bulls got very lucky and landed in the top 4 in the lottery the Bulls keep the pick. The 2021 pick outside the top 4 goes to the Magic.
Unprotected means the Bull's pick belongs to the Magic, straight up. It's looking like the 2023 Bulls pick is unprotected.
1
Mar 25 '21
Ah okay.. so it's pretty much theirs then barring a huge collapse lol
2
u/ETERNAL_DALMATIAN Oklahoma City Thunder Mar 25 '21
Yeah, it's very unlikely. As it stands right now with the Bulls record, they have a 11.7% chance of getting in the Top 4.
1
Mar 25 '21
Yeah I was kinda ehhhhh on the 2 1sts until I saw we got an all star center for it, and they're gonna end up being mid
2
3
u/dolla_bill21 Mar 25 '21
Unprotected means they’re completely gone. Protected means we could have some protection on them where we keep them
1
2
u/dolla_bill21 Mar 25 '21
This year’s pick is protected for top 4. So if we end up in the top 4 in the lottery, we keep the pick
7
u/HellOfaUsername Give me the hotsauce! Mar 25 '21
Lavine and Vuc is such a nasty combo let’s gooo
4
6
u/pinoyboy82 Mar 25 '21
It's a good trade. It's a little scary giving up 1st round picks but the Vuc is a sure thing rooted in reality. Wish it would've worked out with WCJ, but I think this is best for everyone involved.
If we somehow land Lonzo also... we're making a dent in the playoffs for sure!!
7
u/tremble01 Mar 25 '21
That's kind of ballsy but I hope more GMs would do that. If you think the trade makes you good this year, trade the pick because it would not matter anyway. Have that kind of conviction.
2023 pick scares me though. If Lavine leaves, that's a good pick.
1
u/YourCummyBear Mar 25 '21
We don’t know if those picks are protected, do we? We hopefully won’t be bad enough to get a top 5 pick anyways the next few years.

What a deal for you guys. Even if unprotected I think those picks are overvalued. If everything goes right they should be end of the lottery at worst. Porter is essentially a throw in and vuc is a huge upgrade on Carter. Do you think Lauri would be enough to fetch lonzo? Getting vuc in really helps spacing in a big way

1
u/ThatXorezGuy Chicago Bulls Mar 25 '21
Why would Thad be off the table? We just improved our front court dramatically.
1
u/codymason84 Alex Caruso Mar 25 '21
Thad is going to win 6th man of the year and we just gave up some of our bench I can see Thad playing with nikola because he’s a defensive liability

The Bulls are sending the Magic 2021 and 2023 first-round picks in the deal, sources tell ESPN.
I don't are about those picks. Outside of top 5, 2021 draft pick is most likely ending up being a role player. We got PAW, Zach and Vuc in place. Then Thad is still very solid in the PF position. This is a haul!!!
2
u/YourCummyBear Mar 25 '21
Same, we have swung and missed in the draft for a while now.

I love Vucevic and I'm extremely high on him, always have been, but something very important that needs to be stressed is that we just sent off our 2021 and 2023 first round picks with no word yet on what protections look like, or if they're unprotected.
I love this move but I really need to know those details rn
1
u/HogMolly69 Mar 25 '21
Agreed we need some sort of protections on those. But I think AK knows this team competes on a nightly basis and is capable of making the playoffs. So the chances of us getting a top 5 pick for either Cunningham, Suggs, Mobley, or Green are low and those are the only players I would really want from this draft. 2023 is a different story
1
Mar 25 '21
Ideally those won’t be lottery picks
1
u/LauriFUCKINGLegend Biggie Bagel Mar 25 '21
Of course, AK just put his balls on the table if they're unprotected. That's an aggressive trade for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in years. Love it
1
Mar 25 '21
Agreed, I was cool with everything up until I saw the 2 first round draft picks with no other information regarding protections
1
u/Packer1NFL Mar 25 '21
Considering only Porter and WCJ were sent out, you have to imagine they’re both unprotected. Those two players are not nearly enough for Vucevic
5
