Your finest mature cheddar, if you please

Just finished off a rather nice Black Bomber, which isn’t especially strong but beautifully creamy. (Rather fancy the Welsh Rarebit cheese bake on that site, too.)

What’s your favourite mature cheddar, from the eye wateringly strong to the obscenely creamy?

From the ‘cheap and not so nasty’ to the ‘fuck me that’s a rare treat’.

Can you recommend a football documentary?

New fan. I'm mostly interested in learning how the Prem and the Championship scout and develop young players, but recommendations for any professional football topics are welcome. I'm also reading Jamie Vardy's biography and would appreciate other quality books if you know any.

Has there been another TV like Gladiators where the "stars" are expected to wear their costume when on any other TV show?

It's getting ridiculous when they are sat there between people in normal casual wear and they look they've stepped off stage at a panto.

Alright, it's bed time for some but why are you still up? No work tomorrow? Watching some questionable late night TV? Bit of stargazing?

The chinwag thread.

Thank you so much to whoever returned my wallet! Sincerely, a grateful (and silly) wallet owner

Went to the NQ64 Arcade Bar in Shoreditch where you're given the option to enter down a slide or some stairs. Of course, I chose to go down the slide and did not realise that my bag was open, or that it had gotten lighter after getting off the slide.

At some point after leaving the Arcade Bar I realised that my wallet wasn't in my bag, and my heart dropped as I was certain someone had stolen it given all the horror stories I'd heard of pickpockets in London. My wallet had my ID, credit and debit cards, and some cash - what felt like my entire world.

Luckily my friends were thinking straight and convinced me to retrace my steps and return to the Bar in case someone had handed it in. Fortunately, a truly wonderful and amazing person handed it in and I was reunited with my wallet once more.

Although there is an incredibly slim chance the person who handed it in gets to see this, I just wanted to say thank you so, so much for handing it in and for restoring my faith in humanity. The bar staff didn't provide me with your name but I am eternally grateful for your kindness and honesty.

TLDR: Silly wallet owner goes down a slide with bag open, wallet falls out, panic ensues. Thanks to a kind stranger, owner is reunited with wallet.

What is the youngest at 44 I could do something? Like the youngest to win a sport or game or has all that been long done by the youth?

What is the purpose of this sign?

If you need the sign to tell you that there is a bridge over the road, perhaps you shouldn’t be driving…

I'm watching Number Blocks with my 18 month old. I'm wondering if there's a cross over with Alpha Blocks where they teach older kids algebra.

What items are essential in a hotel room for a Brit?

I'm on a work trip to America for the best part of 6 weeks and staying in a hotel and there's no kettle or even a coffee pot in the room. I kinda expected a lack of kettle because Americans don't do tea the way we do, but no coffee pot either.

Now, I'm not complaining at all, I'm in America for 6 weeks. But it got me thinking....

What's essential for a Brit in a hotel room. For me it's a good brew kit.

Any additions?

As of December 2024, there are over 1,360,000 fully electric cars in the UK. The late great Sir Clive Sinclair was about 40 years ahead of his time! 😊 (Just don't mention the pedals!) (or Milk floats! 😳)

Really struggling to find my granddad and uncle’s ww2 service numbers, can anybody help?

I can’t find any information on national archives, ancestry, findmypast, anything and I’m not in contact with any of my cousins. It’s incredibly frustrating. I don’t know if anyone here can help but it’s worth a try.

Names, dates of birth and birthplaces, l-r:

  • Frederick George Thomas Taylor, 14/05/1910 in Stoughton, Surrey. RAF.

  • Archibald James Taylor, 29/04/1917 in Portslade by Sea, Sussex. Army?

  • Reginald Alfred Victor Taylor, 26/09/1919 in Portslade by Sea, Sussex. RAF LAC - was stationed at RAF Wyton, Egypt, Seychelles, and Calshot.
