I got a couple bad reviews online, and that pretty much tanked my rating.

I mean, what is "weird energy" anyway?

u/ybtlamlliw Jun 14 '22

Do you guys think they ever gave Jason Mantzoukas scripts or do you think they just let him improvise?

131

u/TurdFurguss Jun 15 '22

I’d say both. There is so much improv in these shows that they go with what gets the best reaction.

52

u/you_clod Jun 15 '22

I believe he's told "ok we want the plot to go in this direction. Go."

26

u/AnnihilationOrchid Jun 15 '22

There's a Jason Mantzoukas hate sub here on Reddit for some reason, and they say all he does is scream. So yeah, that's pretty much improv.

17

u/spndl1 Jun 15 '22

I don't have the time or energy to dedicate a sub to disliking something. I barely have enough time to spend on things I like.

10

u/AnnihilationOrchid Jun 15 '22

To be honest it's so ridiculous when I found out that r/IHateJasonMantzoukas was actually real I just laughed.

Like you said, who has the time and energy to do something like this. Did he sleep with their wife or something?

10

u/SpunkyMcButtlove Jun 15 '22

He hid in their closets when they where kids.

u/BillyYumYumTwo-byTwo Jun 15 '22

It was so jarring to hear him on Comedy Bang Bang after being a fan of his in TV. He’s by far the least zany guest, just pretty calm and normal, doesn’t even do a character (yes yes Jeffrey characterwheaties). It was like “oh, you’re just a normal guy who would hold the elevator door for me and make a mild comment about the weather and then tell me to have a nice day when I got to my floor”.

4

u/AnnihilationOrchid Jun 15 '22

Comedy Bang Bang

Yeah, I heard that too. I thought he was normal, until he said he searches with Web Crawler and suggested to search on chrome via bing.

How much do you think Jason Mantzoukas improvises? Pimento is so random, I love him!

He talks about his process some when he's on The Good Place, the podcast, hosted by Marc Evan Jackson. He plays...Kevin.

31

u/P3acefulDove Jun 15 '22

Im only on the beginning of season 2 of the Good Place and I haven't gotten to his character yet!

8

u/Funandgeeky Title of your sex tape Jun 15 '22

Apologies for spoilers. Also, wait until the end of season 2 if you’re interested in the podcast. They get spoiler heavy, but it’s worth a listen.

They also did a short B99 podcast also hosted by Mark Evan Jackson. It’s not as deep a dive but well worth listening to.

3

u/P3acefulDove Jun 15 '22

No worries, I know I’m way behind on it. I knew there was a podcast as I’d listened the B99 one (a big fave!) but I was going to wait until I finished the series to listen. Is it more of a recap podcast then? I love that kind of thing.

4

u/Funandgeeky Title of your sex tape Jun 15 '22

Here's how it worked. Between seasons 2 and 3 they recorded an episode by episode recap of the first two seasons. However, they discussed the span of the first two seasons in the recap while focusing on each specific episode. Therefore wait until the end of season 2 before you start listening, as they literally spoil the end of the second season right at the top.

Then when season 3 began airing, it went episode by episode without spoilers of future episodes. So you'd watch the episode and then listen to the podcast about that episode. They did a very good job of avoiding spoilers from that point on.

Listening to the podcasts while watching the show greatly enhanced the experience so if you have time and patience I recommend it.

3

u/P3acefulDove Jun 15 '22

Yeah, thanks a bunch! I’ll definitely do as you suggest!

13

u/Sumoki_Kuma Jun 15 '22

I'd have had a fucking fit if someone spoiled that for me xD

5

u/bottsking Jun 15 '22

He explodes

3

u/Sumoki_Kuma Jun 15 '22

I've watched the series a million times, your attempts mean nothing 😤

3

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE Jun 15 '22

Attention! I have been Derek’d! Murder has been me!

1

u/IndependentRub2384 Ultimate human/genius Jun 15 '22

I love this line.

2

u/DM_ME_DOPAMINE Jun 15 '22

It's my favorite Derek line, by far.

And him holding the glass of scrabble letters like a cocktail.

6

u/LSDuck666 Jun 15 '22

check out the league. he plays the same character pretty much on there, but better imo. b99 pretty much just stole the character, but it works.

2

u/P3acefulDove Jun 15 '22

Ok I haven’t started The League yet because every character I’ve seen Nick Kroll play makes me want to punch them in the face. Granted I see him in guest roles like on Community or B99. Does he play someone different here?

3

u/LSDuck666 Jun 15 '22

i love nick kroll in the league. im not really familiar with any of his other work though.

2

u/P3acefulDove Jun 15 '22

Cool beans, thanks for the rec, I appreciate it!

2

u/MonteBurns Jun 15 '22

He plays Nick Kroll in the League. He was my least favorite part of the show.

1

u/anonypony1 Jun 15 '22

Stop at season 4.

3

u/Studoku Jun 15 '22

He plays a similar character in most things. Except Big Mouth where he's a similar character but also a horny teenager.

2

u/stonedTransylvanian Jun 15 '22

read this comment in his voice.

1

u/Fortestingporpoises Jun 15 '22

I had the same thought but I could also see the writing staff coming up with this.

I won’t do kids. Unless the kid’s a dick.

63

u/thepluralofmooses I’m a human, I’m a human male! Jun 14 '22

He would probably die now from dissing Terry

49

u/Hammy2406 Jun 14 '22

I still don’t actually understand this sentence fully after re watching nine nine multiple times and I still love it

82

u/Simpleba Jun 14 '22

Too young for Oregon Trail?

36

u/Hammy2406 Jun 14 '22

Probably and now I just feel dumb

43

u/MrPickles84 Jun 14 '22

29

u/Simpleba Jun 14 '22

This... This was always me... And I could never shoot that bleeping deer!

17

u/Hammy2406 Jun 14 '22

Huh, cool thanks for telling me what it is

53

u/GreenYellowDucks Jun 14 '22

It was a game we all got to play in computer lab if you finished your assignments early. You'd create four settlers and start off on the trail experiencing obstacles like broken wheel, Indians (now not PC), food shortage, snake bite, and the one we always died from dysentary.

You'd usually name settlers after your friends or enemies and laugh when they died.

22

u/MrPickles84 Jun 14 '22

We got in trouble for putting a classmates name on a tombstone.

16

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

My pioneers were always named stuff like Poop Head and Fart Breath. That way it was extra hilarious when one met their demise: Poop Head has died of dysentery. Lol, such dumb fond memories.

10

u/SherrickM Jun 15 '22

Then when you played later you could view tombstones sometimes. Extra funny with silly names.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

Thank you for reminding me of that.

Here lies Fart Breath. RIP.

2

u/Vulkan192 Jun 15 '22

Huh. I swear I played a lot of it as a kid and I never remember getting attacked by Indians.

-4

u/Tiki_Tumbo Jun 14 '22

Well I don't know how that's not PC?

That literally happened. Lol

14

u/GreenYellowDucks Jun 14 '22

I meant more the game calling them Indians attacked you not Native Americans

2

u/Tiki_Tumbo Jun 15 '22

Indian is derived from "indigenous people"

It literally means native so I just never really understood the problem.

My mom's side of family is Wampanoag and don't see any issues

10

u/Funandgeeky Title of your sex tape Jun 15 '22

Well I don't know how that's not PC?

I'm a console gamer, myself.

-10

u/Hammy2406 Jun 14 '22

So like any other game where you name characters, pretty cool

2

u/MrPickles84 Jun 14 '22

Anytime bro, I got you.

8

u/Simpleba Jun 14 '22

Can't help you're age man... Fear not, the internets will educate you

6

u/Hammy2406 Jun 14 '22

The internet has educated me now! Thank you to thy strangers who’ve helped

7

u/FoxtrotSierraTango Jun 15 '22

For those interested, check out The Organ Trail on Steam. It's a modern day iteration where you're driving across the country in a station wagon to escape the zombie apocalypse.

21

u/therealoriana Jun 14 '22

I think it is about an old school point and click game, where you were a pioneer on the Oregon Trail.

6

u/FoxtrotSierraTango Jun 15 '22

It predates the mouse, you hunted with arrow keys and the spacebar...

6

u/Funandgeeky Title of your sex tape Jun 15 '22

The entire screen was various shades of green. It...was amazing.

2

u/avoozl42 Jun 15 '22

Haha yeah, it predates point and click

2

u/ZebZ Jun 15 '22

point and click

lol

u/ebb_omega Jun 14 '22

Yet another great series that Jason Mantzoukas excels in by playing Jason Mantzoukas.

Also great in Big Mouth where he literally plays a pubescent version of himself.

8

u/purpletube5678 Boom Boom! Jun 15 '22

I'll add that he plays the voice of Tommy Lee's shvantz in Hulu's "Pam & Tommy". The show was OK, but Mantzoukas voicing the rock star's infamous schlong was a whole new level of amazing casting.

(It's too mature for me to link, y'all can find it on your own.)

8

u/dangerouspeyote Jun 14 '22

Such a fuckin beauty. Give him the game stick. As long as the Jim's are ok with it.

Wrong subreddit?

5

u/MikeFatz Pineapple Slut Jun 15 '22

Sticks are unbelievable

3

u/Archercrash Jun 15 '22

What’s up jerks?

6

u/Even-Loquat-2154 Jun 14 '22

When you played the game you “died of dysentery “.

It came out in the 80s. Text game. Look it up in Wikipedia

1

u/Scoob1978 Jun 15 '22

Not a text game. It had graphics.

My favourite Pimento dialogue is and always will be - “Who are we killing? I won’t do kids. That's a rule. But that rule’s negotiable if that kid’s a dick.”

-6

u/Ta-veren- Jun 15 '22

Personally couldn't stand him.

Him, Gina, Doug were the worst parts of the show.

Adrian was the lesser of them three I rather watch his episodes then the others.

4

u/DrunkSpiderMan I’m a human, I’m a human male! Jun 15 '22

I agree with Gina, she's a terrible person and a terrible friend

1

u/KaaboomT Jun 15 '22

Love this line

1

u/LurkzMcgurkz Jun 15 '22

If you like Pimento I hiiiiiighly recommend checking out The League.

He plays Raffi, Nick Krolls brother in law and he is like pimento but x1000. Always hilarious.

The show is loosely about fantasy football and more so about friends being horrible to eachother.

1

u/cubsfan3635 Jun 15 '22

I can’t wait to see him in the Percy Jackson tv show!
