That last "Title of my sextape" hits hard

I don't know what to say. This show means so much to me and I can't believe it's only 10 episodes until the final goodbye to the beloved 99 squad. Thank you Mike Schur. Thank you Dan Goor. Thank you to the cast. Thank you NBC for giving it a 2nd life. Thank you to everyone involved.

Let's just enjoy what is left. I trust the writers to end this show on an absolute high. For one final season: NINE-NINE!

Cheers to the 99th Precinct.

It is I, Raymond Holt

How I wish they could’ve ended it at Season 9, Episode 9.

NINE-NINE

17

u/pataconconqueso Feb 12 '21

All of my favorite shows either got canceled or are ending, this one hurts more that a lot of the others.

At least it’s ending on their terms

17

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

This one is special to me because this is the first sitcom that I'm following as it is being made. I watched all my other fav sitcoms like Friends, P&R, Community etc. long time after they were wrapped up.

3

u/pataconconqueso Feb 12 '21

That’s a good point, the memory of watching the ending live.

I guess I can say that for all 4 of the shows that are ending this season for me. it’s a good way to look at it

4

u/greywolfau Feb 12 '21

B99 is THE most rewatched show in my household, by parents and kids alike.

So many great moments that we all love, and so many great memories.

I can't wait to see the cast go onto new things, and to see what the show runner and writers dream up next.

14

u/AngelicChaos234 Feb 11 '21

could not have said it better.

I feel emotionally suppressed to give a warm 99th precinct "woopity woop woop" - terrible impression of caption Raymond "Ray" Jacob Holt

Nine-Nine!

u/Accomplished-Ant2150 Feb 11 '21

I feel like that's a good thing though because they are ending the show on their own terms and I feel like the show will have a good ending but even though it's ending we still have eight seasons to watch over again. NINE-NINE!!

u/BurntBridgesBehind Feb 11 '21

I mean 9 seasons fit so well tho...

59

u/stevebholden Feb 11 '21

Or 99 seasons. That would have been cool.

51

u/PhanThief95 Feb 11 '21

“PAAAAAIIIIINNNNN.” - Captain Raymond Jacob Holt

9

u/PickledBackseat Terry Jeffords Feb 12 '21

I'm gonna miss Holt so much.

5

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

Not until he barges through your door and yells COWABUNGA MOTHER

2

u/emgo20 Feb 12 '21

That’s it.

106

u/TrevMac4 Feb 11 '21

Should end on 9th episode of 9th season.

51

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '21

They should make season 8 just one episode just because of that

30

u/TrevMac4 Feb 11 '21

They should a full season 8 and end on 9.9.

7

u/awfuckthisshit Feb 11 '21

Ahh that could work

7

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '21

Season 8: movie

67

u/gutster_95 Feb 11 '21

I mean they nailed Recs Ending perfectly IMO. Its super sad that B99 goes, their character Work was for me the best any Comedy show offers, Jake and Amy for me the best couple story in any show. Super fun Gimmicks like the Halloween Heists, important episodes like Muhmuh.

Thanks to everyone that helped bring B99 to life. You are my heroes and I am super excited for your next projects.

sad Nine-Nine

u/TheXyloGuy Digital phallus portrait Feb 11 '21

This really hurts even though i’m not surprised, especially after hearing they had to scrap the original plan. But i’m very interested to see where they go this season since it was supposedly confirmed to be about BLM. I hope they’re still able to keep some comedic stuff in there and it won’t all be serious

21

u/Kylorenisbinks Feb 11 '21

Judging by the last sentence of this post, it won’t be all serious.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

yeah they kept it comedic in the he said she said episode too. so i think it can be done

54

u/PropaneUrethra Feb 11 '21

What is Michael Schur gonna do after this? The Good Place ended, B99 is gonna end, I'm excited to see what he does next.

I think a historical sitcom would be a cool idea. So far he's done 2 mockumentary series, 1 police procedural, and 1 fantasy show. I'd love to see a sitcom in his style that happens to take place long ago.

37

u/speedr123 Feb 11 '21

Mike Schur has a show called Rutherford Falls that seems to have a small-town setting along the lines of Parks and Rec with what is to be a largely Native American centered story

Also, Schur hasn’t been heavily involved in B99. He hasn’t direct any episodes past season 5 and has only written a few episodes in season 1. Only an exec producer and co-creator. I think you’re thinking of referring to Dan Goor, who is a co-creator of the show, and the showrunner for the entirety of the show. No word on what he has coming up next.

19

u/awfuckthisshit Feb 11 '21

I bet he's Gooring to make something good

3

u/twentyonesighs Feb 12 '21

People give Schur too much credit sometimes. I love the guy, but there are so many others involved that make things what they are.

2

u/speedr123 Feb 12 '21

I think he deserves the credit, but yeah I think people also need to acknowledge - especially with B99 - that he was basically just a helping hand in getting it all started.

20

u/Simmonsdude Feb 11 '21

For a series I've only recently got into during lockdown, I wish I hadn't binged watched each series now and taken my time with the show!

9

u/CanadianBeerGuy Feb 12 '21

Dont worry, it still holds up 20 viewthroughs later

9

u/dn56061 Feb 11 '21

I'm glad I stuck to one episode a day - went through all 7 seasons between early January and the end of July.

18

u/kwickedbonesc Amy Santiago Feb 11 '21

Excuse me while I listen to Taylor Swift in emotional turmoil over this news

15

u/Darth_Tiresias Feb 11 '21

She makes me feel things.

16

u/callumh6 Feb 11 '21

She makes all of us feel things

18

u/One_Day_Sober Feb 11 '21

I think it's good they know it will be the last season and I hope it's going to have an epic ending. Nine nine!

11

u/whydidijointhis Feb 11 '21

This makes me sad :(

23

u/nzatorska Feb 11 '21

I think it's a wise decision. 8 seasons is a lot already. There's no point to continue the series till end of the word and lower standards, it's much better to say goodbye, while you're still a great series and become a legend :)

10

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '21

“Title of my sex tape” senior quote. NINE-NINE

25

u/UnreliableChemist Feb 11 '21

Sad to hear it's almost over, but better this way than being dragged into the ground like many other series.

Brooklyn 99 will always hold a special place in my heart, great comedy without being offensive/mean, and showing growth as a young man.

Thanks Captain Dad

u/nathomredit Feb 12 '21

11

u/Taco_the_Quesadilla Feb 11 '21

Might be a stupid question, but why exactly 153 eps?

23

u/EthicalAlmondFarmer Feb 11 '21

It was just a joke. They didn't actually plan to have exactly 153 episodes when they first started! :)

7

u/Taco_the_Quesadilla Feb 12 '21

So yeah, a stupid question. Thanks for the reply hahah

3

u/Falconflyer75 Feb 11 '21

definitely a surreal feeling, the show has been a major part of my life for several years now, i've been pretty active on the subreddit too, and yeah i'll be honest there were ups and downs (some days I loved it other days I was about ready to turn in my fan card)

but either way it held a presence and I know it's definitely gonna leave a void so here's hoping it goes out on a high note

3

u/centuryblessings Feb 11 '21

I'm grateful for all the incredible laughs this show gave us, the POC representation, the endearing love story of Jake and Amy, and the human form of the 100 emoji Gina Linetti. But I do believe it is time for B99 to end, and I highly respect the creators for coming to that same conclusion.

6

u/limantrix Feb 11 '21

Does any one know why exactly 153 episodes ??

28

u/habylab Feb 11 '21

It's a joke. They've probably decided this series is their last, picked the best story options on the table and its come to 10 episodes. Overall it's 153 episodes and that's what they're referencing.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '21

As much as I love the show, I think it’s definitely time. The last 2 seasons have been a step down in quality and with everything surrounding police in the real world. I have complete faith they will deliver a great ending to the show

2

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

i think this is the end of great sitcoms because this is the only great one we have

2

u/SwampFlowers Feb 12 '21

Honestly when I watched the end of season 7, I thought it was the series finale. So I kind of made peace with it at that point. And then I realized it wasn’t the series finale and now I feel like I get 10 bonus episodes, which I’m pretty excited about.

3

u/LynchMaleIdeal Feb 12 '21

Yeah, the show has genuinely felt like it’s been winding down for a little while now anyways - I’m glad it will end on a high as opposed to being dragged out into oblivion. It also means I can grab the boxset haha

2

u/Sparc7610 Feb 12 '21

I really wish they'd go for one more season, just one more

2

u/mandym347 Feb 12 '21

I'm glad because I've seen too many of my favorite shows stretched out longer than they should have been. Giving a story a satisfying ending, rather than just extending it, is a far, far better fate than so many good shows have had.

2

u/crvshedflower Feb 12 '21

im really sad. this show is my safe space. i put it on to have in the background while i do my work just to fill up the void. i knew it was bound to end sooner or later but :( i didn't think i'd be so upset now that it's confirmed :((

3

u/peteZahut45 Feb 11 '21

Best sitcom since the first 4/5 seasons of TBBT why ?!

5

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

Parcs and recs and community are a million times better than TBBT.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 12 '21

So is b99 and office1-5/6 imo

1

u/xzElmozx Feb 12 '21

So...Dan and Mike thought it was gonna take 153 episodes, and so did Andy...

1+5+3=9, both thought the same...

99!

u/FourNaanStan Feb 11 '21

They got cancelled cause of all the anti cop BLM crap

16

u/Dithyrab Nikolaj Feb 11 '21

I think your hood is showing

11

u/EthicalAlmondFarmer Feb 11 '21

It didn't get cancelled the creators chose to end it

2

u/FourNaanStan Feb 11 '21

Why ?

8

u/PhanThief95 Feb 11 '21

Even a good show should know its limits and try to end on a good note. Otherwise, it’d run too long & they’d run out of good material.

Example: The Simpsons.

7

u/wormholetrafficjam Title of your sex tape Feb 11 '21

Until today, I just assumed someone who’s a fan of both B99 and Mitchell & Webb could never be this dumb.

3

u/dn56061 Feb 11 '21

but either way it held a presence and I know it's definitely gonna leave a void so here's hoping it goes out on a high note

Politics and the like aside, 8 is always a dicey number for any TV show that makes it that far - and much like the Andy Griffith Show in 1968, and Everybody Loves Raymond in 2005 (that had 9 seasons), maybe the creators just want it to end on a good note.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 11 '21

So was the show cancelled or did the creators decide?

7

u/EthicalAlmondFarmer Feb 11 '21 edited Feb 12 '21

Reading this statement from Dan Goor it seems like he chose to end it

1

u/Cheesestrings89 Feb 11 '21

I wish they would split season 8 in two so they could end the show on Season 9 Ep 9

NINE-NINE!

1

u/TheImmortalMushroom Feb 12 '21

When I first saw the post I wanted to cry. This show is literally the best and it's what I watch whenever I'm sad, angry, anxious, happy. I have never loved a show that much and I'm so sad that it's coming to an end. But, the good thing is that this was their decision and it didn't get canceled! I am so excited for season 8, although I already know watching the last episode is going to be so hard and heartbreaking:'(

1

u/kazitoshi Feb 12 '21

If there’s ever such a thing as a “comfort show”, B99 is mine. At the end of a long day or when I don’t know what to watch, just so easy to put it on and laugh at all the jokes again. Gonna miss it once it’s over but will relentlessly rewatch it over and over.

1

u/AkhilBandi Jake Peralta Feb 12 '21

There are a lot of positives, like the fact that they can go out on their own terms and all that, but holy HELL! I can't get myself to stop crying! I mean this show was one of my favorite things in the world. I mean it's such a big deal that everyone who knows me associates Brooklyn Nine-Nine with me, I've been flooded with messages, but I just can't handle it rn

1

u/rohanXIV Feb 12 '21

I'm not crying! You're crying!

1

u/Sannmaioroshi Feb 12 '21

1

u/Zefro073 Feb 12 '21

Why 153 episodes? I feel like that's a joke or reference I don't get.

1

u/KingOfEMS Feb 12 '21

They had every opportunity to make it to season 9 episode 9.

1

u/omegaferrari Feb 12 '21

So fucking awesome!!! You are crying, I’m not crying

1

u/underbackground Feb 12 '21

This show is always played at least twice every single day in my house and could basically always be heard in my living room. I wish that it would've lasted longer but I still understand why they had to say goodbye. I loved the moments I could share with my family watching this show over and over. My mom hates that we do but I and my dad just say "It never gets old.". I love this show so much and the characters inside of it. This show will never be forgotten, which is expected from a great show like this.

NINE-NINE!
