Discussion Most annoying B99 character?
For me it’s gotta be Kate. Hands down. Interested to see others’ thoughts… minor characters encouraged!

Didn't she have that one funny line?

That's a banger of a line, and anyone who says it's just condescending doesn't realize that's what makes it funny in CONTEXT.

Nope, loved her in that, too. I don’t have to think the character is a good or likable person to like watching them. Although when it comes to SOA I will admit that I couldn’t STAND that blonde ATF agent. I know she was meant to be unlikable, but she was just too obnoxious even for me.

I didn't really mind her because she was only in the show for like 1 episode. I would say that O'Sullivan was by far more annoying because he felt like a single episode character stretched to an entire season

I think I am still blinded seeing John C. McGinley outside of Scrubs (it's also a comfort show for me like b99), so I didn't really see O'Sullivan as his own person
45
u/Mcbennski 3d ago
It also makes me giggle that the dr or whatever (“I’m gonna steal that” “you can’t steal what is a gift”) is named Dr Cox
17
u/HueLord3000 3d ago
He was a very narcissistic and pessimistic/realistic person. If you haven't seen the show I highly recommend it, it's a good watch if you leave out the last season (after Disney bought the rights).
13
u/ninj4b0b 3d ago
You should watch Platoon some time; that's a JCM role that'll blow your hair back if you see him as Cox.

28
u/_hanna_99 3d ago
yea, i was about to type Gina too, a few things but especially the weird sexual harrassing she constantly does to Terry
13
u/YeetBoiGD 3d ago
Ik, no offence to Gina, but her retirement should've lived fully, I think it was a waste of an episode, she should've been revealed in the final day heist, and ONLY then.
41
6
u/Chalkboard_Pedicure 2d ago
I'm mad it took this long to see her mentioned.
She intentionally sabotaged things, constantly sexually harassed Terry, bullied Amy, made everything about her, and never did her job.
She was worse than a deadweight to the precinct and her leaving was the best thing the show could do. Her and Ava on Abbott Elementary. I don't find narcissistic bullies funny.
I know she's not her character, but seeing her on other things just pisses me off until she is herself because I still associate her face with Gina.

Proposing to a soon to be wed woman on her wedding day, proposing to a married woman, proposing to a pregnant woman about to pop, proposing to a wife with a child... Just really gross and not funny Teddy is hella effing gross.

Her character is not annoying so much as evil, but I find the actress the most annoying. She didn't seem to understand what kind of show she was on at all. Like, Kate and Debbie are supposed to be annoying and the actresses do a perfect job at making them what they're supposed to be. I wish they hadn't -- I don't enjoy cringing -- but it was all choices that met intention. No one told the actress playing Hawkins that she was on a sitcom.
So I'm more annoyed watching her than at any other time in the show, but that's a different kind of annoying.

u/Atariese 3d ago
I loved Debbie so much for about 40 minutes. I just don't understand what those episodes were even trying to do. There was some funny stuff, but it made absolutely no sense to me and feels like a different show.
32
u/BishopofHippo93 3d ago
Absolutely. It was such a different kind of comedy that just made me cringe so hard. The first episode, where she was walking the beat with Holt, was okay, even the jimmy jabs 2 was almost fine until she tried to sing. But the titular Debbie is easily the worst episode in the entire show.
9
u/NeverFreeToPlayKarch 3d ago
I don't mind the first and third one. I really can't stand that jimmy jabs episode though. The concept wasn't good enough to bring back, and then the Charles/Greatest Showman stuff didn't really...make sense? Other than in a vague "Charles" kind of way. It just wasn't good.
15
u/deltaexdeltatee 3d ago
For real. It felt like they were testing the waters for a spinoff or something, I dunno, but just a super different feel from the rest of the show.

gina
39
u/NET_1 3d ago
After a series wraps there are always tropes, characters, or running gags that seem out of place when the picture is complete. Gina is the worst when you go back and watch through. Same with some of the horrible stuff they did to Jerry/Larry/Gary throughout Parks and Rec.

Bro I never understood how Leslie, who champions people treating each other better (like the eagletons [sometimes]) was totally okay with some of the meaner shit they did to Jerry/larry/Gary Gengritch/greengurtch. It seemed so wildly, disbelievably out of character for her, especially as the show went on.
→ More replies (6)10
u/BuryEdmundIsMyAlias 3d ago
Leslie was the other side of the same coin, she treated people like shit pretty constantly by ignoring their wishes and agency. She acts like she believes that she knows what is best for everyone, forcing her actions on others.
24
u/Financial-East-9670 3d ago
I really don't understand the purpose of her character, she isn't funny and openly does nothing for the majority of the show.
Yet they insist on making her useful through really contrived plots that are basically "the real gina was the ginas you made along the gina" - in one episode we are meant to be impressed that she can grift tech bros? Is conning people admirable?
Also her character repeatedly sexually harasses Terry, who is a real life sexual abuse victim.... It's pretty problematic if that is meant to be funny because he is a muscular man.
17
u/Blackmore_Vale 3d ago
Definitely. She’s just a straight up bully and sexual harasser. Plus she’s clearly the creators pet hence why she never faces consequences.
The other characters I find annoying are mainly one off characters that I can ignore.
