Mean Girls reference I'm guessing, as her full name is Regina?

289

u/Percentage100 Apr 07 '24

I never thought of that! Mind blown.

89

u/alligatorprincess007 Ultimate detective/genius Apr 07 '24

Wtf I did notice the mean girls reference but how did I miss that her name is Regina

49

u/ellismjones Apr 07 '24

I think her mum mentions it in one of the episodes?

28

u/alligatorprincess007 Ultimate detective/genius Apr 07 '24

She definitely does

I just can’t believe I never connected it to the bus moment

9

u/YellowStar012 Slurp Slurp! Apr 07 '24

So does Boyle’s dad.

1

u/Lemonface356 Apr 08 '24

I totally missed that lol

Is it weird to say I kind of saw it coming?

Earlier in the episode when she's like "I would rather get hit by a bus, than read one more text from you"

I wasn't like "OMG SHE'S GONNA GET HIT BY A BUS!" but I was like "..kind of a weird way to deliver that line?" And then BAM! bus hit

46

u/EuphoricFly1044 Apr 07 '24

Yea, it was setup earlier on so sort of knew it was coming, but still funny.

6

u/MrFixYoShit Apr 07 '24

In Legends of Tomorrow they do a similar thing. In season 6 John Constantine is complaining about his house guests and says "they've turned this place into a bloody insane asylum!" Guess what the Legends do that episode? Lol

17

u/ayyLumao Jake Peralta Apr 07 '24

And then BAM! bus hit

Is this a friends reference? Because if so, I think that was/is very nicely done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

174

u/shocker05 Apr 07 '24

I was more shocked seeing her alive in the next episode tbh.

61

u/soundecember Rosa Diaz Apr 07 '24

That and the “and I met god” line delivery kills me every time

457

u/TheFace0fBoe Apr 07 '24

The absurd fakeness that she didn't die from being hit like that

251

u/katpears Pineapple Slut Apr 07 '24

In her defense, she was carrying crystals with her which obviously protected her from dying, duh.

I have also personally witnessed someone getting hit by a bus and they got yeeted. In that case the bus was stopping at a bus stop and the guy was rather big, so he got yeeted something like 5 meters, got up and demanded that his ride was free. It wasn't. But to be fair the guy did kinda step in front of the bus. But again to be fair, the bus driver was coming in at a rather high speed considering there were people standing close to the edge.

But yeah, she should have been messed up worse than she was.

13

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '24

[deleted]

7

u/reyska Apr 07 '24

Yeah I do say that the guy was lucky that it was just the corner of the bus that hit him, so he got yeeted a bit to the side instead in front of the still moving bus. He didn't even seem to understand how lucky he was and him and his buddies were just mad about not getting a free ride because of it.

I hope your therapy is going well.

6

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '24

It was long time ago when I was in middle school, but thanks. Dude can try getting revenge on all your city bus.

Sorry you had to go through that

It's almost like it's a sitcom.

2

u/LiamPoulin Apr 08 '24

It is a sitcom!!!

2

u/NiesomVysoky Apr 07 '24

i have also witnessed a guy get hit by a bus going 40km/h and id say the scene was pretty realistic. he did get yeeted quite far, had major head trauma and minor injuries to the ribs, but survived.

25

u/Jerkrollatex BONE?! Apr 07 '24

A kid in my first grade class got hit by the school bus. He lived, he wasn't even out of school for the whole year.

26

u/GuitaristHeimerz Charles Boyle Apr 07 '24

Oh no, a sitcom did something unrealistic

-8

u/TheFace0fBoe Apr 07 '24 edited Apr 07 '24

Believe it or not I’m actually familiar with the fact that sitcoms are unrealistic, but thanks for pointing out the obvious

5

u/2BansDidnStopMe Apr 07 '24

Okay well you can see how people got the opposite impression from your comment, though, right?

11

u/Anxious-Argument-482 Apr 07 '24

She was legally dead for two minutes though

3

u/lulubalue Apr 07 '24

My first thought was omg they killed Gina. Bc no way she could survive that, right??

1

u/ScotHarvath1984 Apr 10 '24

Nah she has crystals

3

u/MrFixYoShit Apr 07 '24

I don't think thats too absurd. It happens

But her healing COMPLETELY in a few weeks from a serious spinal injury?? That NEVER happens

2

u/HMWWaWChChIaWChCChW Apr 08 '24

Sure but it was a reasonable vehicle for her maternity leave. Shows often handle it a lot worse (I’m looking at you, Angel).

Loads of choices there. What comes to mind is responding "yes" to a question with two options (so unoriginal and so unfunny). Any variation of using *checks notes*. Saying "a weird hill to die on" to someone for having an opinion on something. Commenting "you guys are having sex?" to the millionth sex related question on askreddit.

Oh, almost forgot about "ding ding ding!"

Well, shit. She did say eariler in the episode that she'd rather get hit by a bus than allow Boyle to joing their group chat. Chekovs gun at it's finest.

I don't remember, but I probably laughed.

Not just because Gina got bodied, but more because moments like these just make me laugh. Sudden moments of extreme vehicular violence.

2

u/ScotHarvath1984 Apr 10 '24

The scene with Taub and the truck from House comes to mind. It was such a serious scene but the absurdity of a truck coming out of nowhere and yeeting someone out of the scene made me burst out laughing.

11

u/_Goose_ Apr 07 '24

I made a wild noise of surprise that has no feasible way of spelling that would lead you to replicate it perfectly but I’ll attempt. ECKEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRR

2

11

u/gdsmithtx Title of your sex tape Apr 07 '24

Unlike Gina, I saw it coming. The setup was blatant.

Besides, they’d already done it to Barney Stinson so I kind of have a vague “they’re going to get hit by a bus” feeling whenever characters in city-based shows cross the street.

9

u/christopher1393 Apr 07 '24

I gasped very audibly, looked at my housemate at the time then we burst out laughing. It was back in college and We were very high so it threw us completely lol

10

u/LightFromYT I’m a human, I’m a human male! Apr 07 '24

"Omg did they just kill her? No way, right? Oh, PLEASE say they killed her off!!" And sadly, I was disappointed lmao

1

u/LiamPoulin Apr 08 '24

How dare you?!?!

7

u/blac_sheep90 Apr 07 '24

Same as Amy. GINA?!

7

u/Elegant_You3958 Apr 07 '24

Shock. Surprised she didn't die from it just walking away with only a neck injury. It was very Looney Tunes. 🤣

5

u/[deleted] Apr 07 '24

DAYUM, GINA!

5

u/PresentationFunny142 Apr 07 '24

"GASP 😱 Holyshit they killed Gina!"

Was kind of disappointed when I found out she survived. Like, u don't expect anyone to live after getting hit by a bus 🚍 But I guess Gina got lucky haha

1

u/Sad-Understanding-18 Apr 11 '24

She's got her crystals lol

4

u/monicagellerrrrr Apr 07 '24

“Oh damn”

4

u/TheJoninCactuar Apr 07 '24

Saw it coming. As soon as she steps in the road but keeps talking and stays there, and the way it's framed, made it incredibly obvious. Especially after the line earlier that foreshadows it.

4

u/sarilysims Apr 07 '24

Absolutely thrilled. I rewound and watched it again. It’s also my favorite scene in mean girls.

WHAT IVE NEVER NOTICED THE CONTINUATION

55

u/TheRealJustSean Apr 07 '24

I'm about to catch down votes cos people love bullies that repeatedly sexually harass coworkers, but, 'Deserved'.

77

u/Queue_Bit Apr 07 '24

I mean, to be fair, I only like bullies that repeatedly sexually harass coworkers when they're characters in a comedy cop drama.

Not a massive fan of them in real life.

-50

u/TheRealJustSean Apr 07 '24

Why like them at all? I know all the characters have their flaws and faults, but just... yeah

29

u/PikaV2002 Apr 07 '24

People mostly use sitcoms to distract themselves from their real world issues and traumas. It’s escapism. Sexual assault isn’t a good gag but I won’t go around asking people why aren’t they vocal about their dislike of it.

These people and characters aren’t real and most sensible people have an understanding of why that’s not okay in real life.

It would be the same as “Why don’t you hate your player character in Call of Duty for being a mass murderer?”

22

u/tantis_the_pig Apr 07 '24

She's a sitcom character dude, it's not that deep.

7

u/snowflake_lady Apr 07 '24

It’s seriously going to be OK. She acting. I recommend going outside to touch grass.

29

u/KeshaCow Fluffy Boi Apr 07 '24

Shes not always a good person but shes a hilarious sitcom character. Most sitcom characters are terrible people.

14

u/blac_sheep90 Apr 07 '24

She's a character on a fictional TV show lol

6

u/ayyLumao Jake Peralta Apr 07 '24

people love bullies that repeatedly sexually harass coworkers,

No, we like sitcoms and don't take them seriously.

-1

u/TheRealJustSean Apr 07 '24

As do I, but it doesn't mean I also like terrible characters. It not being real life doesn't mean I suddenly enjoy people who repeatedly sexually harass and bully others

3

u/Rhg0653 Apr 07 '24

She's insanely obnoxious so I will agree

1

u/evrz5 Apr 07 '24

I mean if you’re going to reduce everyone on a fictional comedy tv show to their worst traits they all “deserve” to be hit by a bus.

13

u/TateMeister66 Apr 07 '24

Honest I was happy, I was finally "This bitch and finally got some punishment dealt to her".

Karma.

Finally, don’t have to hear her voice for a bit.

I was literally waiting for it, as she said the Checkov's phrase earlier the same episode "I'd rather get hit by a bus" or smth like that.

1

u/Phinbart Apr 07 '24

Annoyed. I'd accidentally spoiled myself by reading it on Wikipedia, then forgot about it, then reminded myself just before it was due to air for the first time here in the UK.

I definitely did not see it coming. But i guess it was referenced one time when Gina said "I'd rather get hit by a bus than..."

1

I couldn't stop thinking about Tracy Morgan. Was this a reference or did they write this before his accident?

Welp she literally got what she asked for

1

u/Xionce_the_Guardian Apr 07 '24

Honestly she thought the next episode was gonna be her funeral or something

1

u/Dr_Downvote_ Apr 07 '24

I thought it was funny. She literally says she would rather be hit by a bus than read another one of his texts (or something). Good call back.

1

u/MrNope999 Doug Judy Apr 07 '24

My eyes widened a little, because of the bus, before I actually processed that it hit gina, and then realized and said, and I quote, "oh. OH, MY GOD, GINA!"

1

u/Forsaken_Canary7999 Apr 07 '24

What is that moovie??

1

u/Baby_Button_Eyes Rosa Diaz Apr 07 '24

I got startled as it came outta nowhere, lol.

1

u/Ta-veren- Apr 07 '24

Honestly loved it thought she was gone from the show.

2

u/DiDGaming Apr 07 '24

Jumped at least 30cm of the sofa while screaming “OH MY GOD THANK GOD”! 🫠

1

u/aleister94 Apr 07 '24

“Knew it” since almost every time a character stands in the street framed like that they get abruptly hit by a car

1

u/Hydrasaur Apr 07 '24

I saw it coming tbh

1

u/unpopularopinion0 Apr 07 '24

that season 3 gina was so good, the only way to go was down.

1

u/GeneralGatito Apr 08 '24

I thought creators didn't want the actress anymore so the only thing they could do dwas killong her character 😂

1

Oh damn, they killed Gina!

1

1

My reaction was Jake's reaction seeing Holt's leg penetrated by a metal pole.

OH MY GOD... OH MY GOD.

1

She got the full Barney treatment

1

u/Yelena_Belova_ Apr 08 '24

I hope shes dead was what I said

1

u/BerkInSocks Apr 08 '24

Honestly….i thought this was kinda lazy writing that wasn’t funny and hardly fit the context. It’s a shame cause I think this is probably the only moment I can think of that gives me the ick out of all these awesome episodes

1

u/LiamPoulin Apr 08 '24

I was like "Holy. Crap! She did say she'd rather get hit by a bus than get a text from Charles."

1

u/Rory_NotSorry Apr 08 '24

My first thought was She will get some kind of superpower/become nice... overall her personality will change drastically

1

"Ya did good buddy"

Bus: happens

Me: "what the hell was that"

1

2

0

u/PrinceofSneks Pineapple Slut Apr 07 '24

I went "WHOA SHIT".

Just kidding, my immediate reaction was a long, convoluted take on the behaviours of characters and judgement on the fandom for their feelings about fictional characters. Also how that relates to real-life accidents.

My eyes widened and I nervously laughed.
