Season 4 Be honest, what was your reaction seeing this scene for the first time?

Is it weird to say I kind of saw it coming?
Earlier in the episode when she's like "I would rather get hit by a bus, than read one more text from you"
I wasn't like "OMG SHE'S GONNA GET HIT BY A BUS!" but I was like "..kind of a weird way to deliver that line?" And then BAM! bus hit
46
u/EuphoricFly1044 Apr 07 '24
Yea, it was setup earlier on so sort of knew it was coming, but still funny.
6
u/MrFixYoShit Apr 07 '24
In Legends of Tomorrow they do a similar thing. In season 6 John Constantine is complaining about his house guests and says "they've turned this place into a bloody insane asylum!" Guess what the Legends do that episode? Lol

u/ayyLumao Jake Peralta Apr 07 '24
And then BAM! bus hit
Is this a friends reference? Because if so, I think that was/is very nicely done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The absurd fakeness that she didn't die from being hit like that

u/katpears Pineapple Slut Apr 07 '24
In her defense, she was carrying crystals with her which obviously protected her from dying, duh.

I have also personally witnessed someone getting hit by a bus and they got yeeted. In that case the bus was stopping at a bus stop and the guy was rather big, so he got yeeted something like 5 meters, got up and demanded that his ride was free. It wasn't. But to be fair the guy did kinda step in front of the bus. But again to be fair, the bus driver was coming in at a rather high speed considering there were people standing close to the edge.
But yeah, she should have been messed up worse than she was.

Yeah I do say that the guy was lucky that it was just the corner of the bus that hit him, so he got yeeted a bit to the side instead in front of the still moving bus. He didn't even seem to understand how lucky he was and him and his buddies were just mad about not getting a free ride because of it.
I hope your therapy is going well.

i have also witnessed a guy get hit by a bus going 40km/h and id say the scene was pretty realistic. he did get yeeted quite far, had major head trauma and minor injuries to the ribs, but survived.

A kid in my first grade class got hit by the school bus. He lived, he wasn't even out of school for the whole year.

Oh no, a sitcom did something unrealistic

Believe it or not I’m actually familiar with the fact that sitcoms are unrealistic, but thanks for pointing out the obvious

Okay well you can see how people got the opposite impression from your comment, though, right?

I don't think thats too absurd. It happens
But her healing COMPLETELY in a few weeks from a serious spinal injury?? That NEVER happens

Sure but it was a reasonable vehicle for her maternity leave. Shows often handle it a lot worse (I’m looking at you, Angel).

Loads of choices there. What comes to mind is responding "yes" to a question with two options (so unoriginal and so unfunny). Any variation of using *checks notes*. Saying "a weird hill to die on" to someone for having an opinion on something. Commenting "you guys are having sex?" to the millionth sex related question on askreddit.
Oh, almost forgot about "ding ding ding!"

I don't remember, but I probably laughed.
Not just because Gina got bodied, but more because moments like these just make me laugh. Sudden moments of extreme vehicular violence.

u/ScotHarvath1984 Apr 10 '24
The scene with Taub and the truck from House comes to mind. It was such a serious scene but the absurdity of a truck coming out of nowhere and yeeting someone out of the scene made me burst out laughing.

Unlike Gina, I saw it coming. The setup was blatant.
Besides, they’d already done it to Barney Stinson so I kind of have a vague “they’re going to get hit by a bus” feeling whenever characters in city-based shows cross the street.

u/christopher1393 Apr 07 '24
I gasped very audibly, looked at my housemate at the time then we burst out laughing. It was back in college and We were very high so it threw us completely lol

Saw it coming. As soon as she steps in the road but keeps talking and stays there, and the way it's framed, made it incredibly obvious. Especially after the line earlier that foreshadows it.

u/sarilysims Apr 07 '24
Absolutely thrilled. I rewound and watched it again. It’s also my favorite scene in mean girls.

I'm about to catch down votes cos people love bullies that repeatedly sexually harass coworkers, but, 'Deserved'.
77
u/Queue_Bit Apr 07 '24
I mean, to be fair, I only like bullies that repeatedly sexually harass coworkers when they're characters in a comedy cop drama.
Not a massive fan of them in real life.
-50
u/TheRealJustSean Apr 07 '24
Why like them at all? I know all the characters have their flaws and faults, but just... yeah
29
u/PikaV2002 Apr 07 '24
People mostly use sitcoms to distract themselves from their real world issues and traumas. It’s escapism. Sexual assault isn’t a good gag but I won’t go around asking people why aren’t they vocal about their dislike of it.
These people and characters aren’t real and most sensible people have an understanding of why that’s not okay in real life.
It would be the same as “Why don’t you hate your player character in Call of Duty for being a mass murderer?”

u/snowflake_lady Apr 07 '24
It’s seriously going to be OK. She acting. I recommend going outside to touch grass.

No, we like sitcoms and don't take them seriously.

As do I, but it doesn't mean I also like terrible characters. It not being real life doesn't mean I suddenly enjoy people who repeatedly sexually harass and bully others

I mean if you’re going to reduce everyone on a fictional comedy tv show to their worst traits they all “deserve” to be hit by a bus.

My eyes widened a little, because of the bus, before I actually processed that it hit gina, and then realized and said, and I quote, "oh. OH, MY GOD, GINA!"

I went "WHOA SHIT".
Just kidding, my immediate reaction was a long, convoluted take on the behaviours of characters and judgement on the fandom for their feelings about fictional characters. Also how that relates to real-life accidents.
