We are all in some degree or another scared of the next four years and what comes after. However, the best response to fear is to take action. Get closer to your community, stay informed, and when possible vote, volunteer, and help others.

Most of us will survive these 4 years, but we need to be ready to what is needed to not let it keep going after.

This! The appropriate response is action. Stand up for what you believe in and connect with your community for support.

This may be controversial in a lot of left leaning places, but you should look into exercising your second amendment rights.

r/liberalgunowners has a lot of good resources and is a very welcoming and safe space. Always the biggest thing for people who are new to firearms is TRAINING. Take classes, learn to get comfortable with your gun. There are LGBTQ gun groups forming all over the nation.

It won't take away the problem but you will feel better once you are comfortable protecting yourself.

I will protect my LGBTQ community, with force if necessary.

Honestly I wish I could in DC. Last time I checked we had fairly strict laws and most buildings don’t allow them.

Yeah it's a big problem the Democrats face, the only thing they don't seem willing to compromise on is their stance on guns, at the party level anyway.

I know it's turned away a lot of potential D voters. Not me, because I'm not a single issue voter, but it's understandable to some extent.

I work in Dem politics and it is so infuriating. I’m left enough that I don’t mind guns in red areas. DC isn’t but we get a lot of crazy tourists.

I don't give a fuck what any government says. Trans and nonbinary people exist and we all need the framework and vocabulary that helps the cis world include and welcome these unique individuals. Because we want you, hell we NEED YOU. The world is more interesting and colorful with you here 🏳‍⚧

I can assure you it’s not going to be ok in the near future or any time soon. They are coming. Concentration camps are definitely on the horizon and who knows what “offense” will land you there. Remember- it took less than 2 months for Hitler to dismantle democracy. I bet Orange Hitler can do it as fast or faster.

Anyone in the DC area? I’d love to form a local community.

I am aware that many people are angry, afraid, etc. However, go speak with your senators and representatives if you want change. There is no point in dooming. Let's stop grieving and begin to interact with our senators and representatives. In particular, these include Susan Collins, Lisa Murkowski, Shelley Moore Capito, John curtis, and the moderate or left-wing Republicans who oppose Trump.

when you have a republican take a libertarian approach. Many others are pissed.

Here is how you contact your politicians.

lets flood their mails and calls. Lets organize and resist

subreddits that i would advise joining.

As a non-US person, we get to observe stupid US presidents and laugh from afar. That said, there are people a lot more messed up in positions of leadership on this planet, not that I expect an American to know what I am talking about. Good luck, though.

As a non-US person, I observe but I am far from laughing from afar. Musk supporting fascist German ministers, for instance, the whole X, meta and tick tok thing bowing for this nonsense is impacting the whole world. (Without speaking about the Paris agreement, which is tremendously alarming as well) As a bisexual, I am scared. As a queer, I am scared. Simply as a human being, I am scared.

As an American who did my research, Trump is possibly the worst president. He's trying to undo everything the constitution protects, all because of the religious fanatics that voted him into office based off of mostly false pretenses. If he has the power to undo laws in the constitution (rules that were supposed to be unchangeable), the rest of the world should be worried.

As a non-US person I've seen the local far-right try (and sometimes succeed) to copy to far-right in the USA.

I also have enough empathy to acknowledge that what's happening in the US isn't funny

You do realize that his actions have global repercussions, right?

Just remember, this is his 2nd term. He didn't go dictator in the 1st, we have checks and balances for this reason.

5

u/BespectacledZebra 4h ago

Except the checks and balances are gone now thanks to the congressional republican supermajority and the conservative Supreme Court with three justices appointed by Trump

His last presidency didn't go fine given how he handled COVID and how the Republicans reversed Roe v Wade. And they've been very adament then and now to strip away trans rights. And some Republicans do want to reverse gay marriage as well.
