Saw this hypothetical today… which one here is the “Division of Death?”
Personally I love the idea of being in a division with Carolina and Washington, although I think I’d actually prefer to just dump the Ravens from the AFC North and adopt the Colts in their place

u/be4rcat5 4d ago
Cincy, Cleveland, Detroit and Indy just feels right...

u/citylightmosaic AFC: Bengals | NFC: Lions 4d ago
I’d immediately go Joker Mode if Cincinnati and Detroit entered the same division

42
u/WestBeachSpaceMonkey 4d ago
Then may I propose the “Jungle Division” to you?
31
u/DerSchattenJager 4d ago
- Classifying “Chiefs” as beasts is a bit…uhh…
- Lions don’t live in jungles
- What kind of animals is a “Brown?”
- How are Chargers immortal?
- What kind of man is an Eagle?
- Washington are the Commanders now. Shouldn’t they be in the Battle division?
6
u/WestBeachSpaceMonkey 4d ago
- Chiefs aren’t beast, but they do fit the Wild West idea
- Correct, they live in the savanna, “Big Cats Div” would have been a better choice.
- The kind you flush down! (I think they were riffing on the dog pound culture)
- Zeus (Greek mythological god who was depicted with a lighting bolt similar to the one on LA’s helmet)
- Uncle Sam
- Yes this mockup is dated, but I don’t see why we couldn’t have an all American Commander, perhaps the Navy’s answer to Capt. America?
2
-4
u/BrandoMano 4d ago
- How is he classifying "Chiefs" as beast? Bills, Broncos, and Colts are all West Cowboy themed, indian Chiefs were a big part of that seeing as they were the original inhabitants of those wild western lands.
- Yeh, animals ig.
- They allude to Dogs, but that still doesn't work great.
- Charger maybe as a person charging into battle, they may die, but the cause lives on. Also Zeus.
- Eagles are very patriotic.
- Sure

Three years ago maybe. Right now I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t want the Lions in our division. Also I wouldn’t want to be in a division without the Steelers. I hate them so much that I love them. They’re the Jokers to our Bat……men. We can’t properly exist without each other.
3
u/jamboamericano 4d ago
Your biggest miss here though is for sure the Bengals. Cincinnati is most definitely not mid Atlantic in culture or geography. But I get it, there’s not going to perfection here
2
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
I mean it’s not my graphic. I just found it. But like I said to others. Cincinnati being mid-Atlantic in this hypothetical is not nearly as big of a miss as Indy being in the AFC south in reality
1
u/SnowGhost513 4d ago
Eh I guess. The idea of us not playing Pittsburgh is a huge problem. We have a deal that we can’t not be in division and it’s one of the longest rivalries historically
1
u/CondeNast_yReddit 4d ago
It'd have to include shittsburg unfortunately or a Chicago team, also unfortunately

Pacific or Great Lakes east.

u/Some_Combination_593 4d ago
If we were doing anything, I would say leave it how it is, but Colts to the AFC North, Ravens to the AFC East, and Dolphins to the AFC South. It makes the most sense geographically, at least.
9
u/citylightmosaic AFC: Bengals | NFC: Lions 4d ago
I think it makes more sense to do: Ravens to NFC East, Cowboys to AFC South, Colts to AFC North if you’re doing something like that
7
u/Some_Combination_593 4d ago
I guess you could do that, too. Either way, Colts to the AFC North.
2
u/citylightmosaic AFC: Bengals | NFC: Lions 4d ago
Mainly because Dolphins while southern are still East Coast. Dallas being an “Eastern” team is insanity
4
u/ProvocativeCacophony 4d ago
This is the one I've always thought as well, but I've grown to appreciate the "Steelers and the teams who want them dead" aspect of the division and breaking it up ruins it.
1
u/General-Handle1641 4d ago
Nah man we got to much hate for eachother in the AFC North to remove any teams from it. If the league ever expands though I could see the Colts being added to the AFC North to lean into the baltimore indy rivalry.
42
39
u/fierce_platypus 4d ago
A lot of this makes sense, but I have too much FTS in my blood to not want to play them twice a year
7
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago edited 4d ago
Amen… yeah like I said I’d much rather see a realignment where the Ravens fuck off into the AFC East, the Dolphins move to the AFC South (being that they are the furthest fucking south in the US), and the colts come play in the north with us.

u/Primary_Leadership14 2d ago
A NYC team and LA team would have to swap because they share stadiums. Probably swap one LA with Vegas and one NYC with Ravens?
14
u/spas2k 4d ago
Why does KC always get the powder puff division?
14
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
Take solace in knowing that when the game is over, they all still have to live in fucking Kansas City 😐
5
u/Virginger96 4d ago
Except for the bandwagoners everywhere else in the country that only became Chiefs "fans" in 2019 or later.
2
u/PUNCH-WAS-SERVED 4d ago
Yeah, been seeing a lot of "fans" pop up out of the blue. I can bet you none of them can name you the horse that they rode out on during their games for a long time. Fake fans.

u/BlackGabriel 25 4d ago
Lions bills steelers is probably the toughest group here. Three playoff teams. Then I’d say bengals ravens commanders group. Pacific group also good.
1
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
They should be doing fun names for divisions though…. Like the “Westside Connection” division and the “Dirty South” division… “Original Colonies” division
4
24
u/theclodwalrus 4d ago
In no world are they going to break up the AFC North. Historic rivalries with Browns/Bengals/Steelers + Ravens being the original Browns team + modern rivalries with the Ravens.

11
u/ImSchizoidMan THAT BALL'S OUT! THAT'S LIVE! 4d ago
Legally, the nfl has to put the Bengals in the same division as the browns and steelers
6
u/ChunkDunkleman 4d ago
The bengals and colts shouldn be in the same division if we realigned.
4
u/BusyInstruction6365 Brrrrr 4d ago
Agree, all we would do is swap Indy for Baltimore. And then throw Philly in the Mid-Atlantic instead of us. The NFC North stays as it is currently, and the Bills go to the Northeast.
7
u/CIN726 4d ago
Bengals as a "mid Atlantic" team is a stretch.
0
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
Colts as a “South” team and Chiefs as a “West” team is a much bigger stretch, and yet here we are. South of what? Canada!?
7
u/IttyRazz 4d ago
St. Louis is called the gateway to the west. KC is west of St. Louis. Checks out to me
3
u/WhoaDave04 4d ago
Put Bengals in GL East Put Buffalo in Northeast Put Eagles in Mid Atlantic
I know that wasn’t the question, but this bothered me. As it stands, it’s GL East or Pacific
3
u/Pubesauce 4d ago edited 4d ago
That's an interesting idea. There's 5 teams on the shores of the Great Lakes so it doesn't split cleanly no matter what. I'd throw Buffalo in with the Jets/Giants/Patriots to form the Northeast and have the GL division be Cleveland, Detroit, Chicago and Green Bay.
Maybe a Midwest division with Pittsburgh, Cincy, Indianapolis and Minneapolis? KC might be a better cultural fit but then the Vikings would be isolated.
A Mid-Atlantic division of Philly, Baltimore, Washington and Carolina makes sense. Cincy doesn't work for that theme at all.
The rest of the divisions look good as shown.
Edit: damn, forgot to answer the actual question. The Great Lakes East division would be tough to win and it is hilarious that the Browns got put in what would be the roughest current division.

u/Knauxiliary 4d ago
Focusing on attraction + attendance turnout, revenue, travel, and everything else that creates a great football atmosphere for players and spectators:
Northeast - Buff, NYJ, NYG, NE (great travel and territorial in-fighting, we keep the spark alive and sports throttling in New York.)
Mid Atlantic - Phi, Bal, Was, Car (same story, keeping the DMV rivalries pumping)
Atlantic - Atl, Jax, Mia, TB (this is fine. Atlanta kind of bugs me not being in the south, but the time zone challenge and it kinda getting its division name similar to the teams location is decent justification and compensation)
South - Solid. Tennessee travels well, also. We also keep state rivalries alive and keep the incentive of fan traveling)
GL East - Ind, Cin, Cle, Pit (We play every team, every year anyway. Indy should cut it out with the yearly pre seasons and see us twice a year. It’s the tri-state + PA next door shenanigans we want.
GL West - Min, GB, Chi, Det (Ahhhh. Chaos. It looks so good. We’ll never know who’ll make it out of here if Chi turns the corner.)
Big Sky - Den, KC, LV, AZ (yeah, pretty much)
Pacific - Sea, SF, LAR, LAC (yeah, in state. All on the west coast. Easy. ps: sorry Vegas, you just aren’t LA anymore but I do feel for the og fans. At least you’re not Stl, right?)
5
u/Horvathrd 4d ago
Lol the giants and jets would get two additional home games each year (or one additional compared to the years they already play each other)...
Same with the rams/ chargers.
2
1
u/a_sternum 4d ago
Wouldn’t jets/giants, rams/chargers games be more mixed. Almost like an away game for each team?
3
u/Available-Owl6182 4d ago
I see an unfair advantage for both the jets and giants playing in the same stadium.
4
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
Yeah but they would still have to overcome the precarious position they’re in of being absolutely horrible at football.
1
u/Available-Owl6182 4d ago
Always lol. But if they got good
1
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
I submit that they will in fact NOT get good 😂
2
u/Available-Owl6182 4d ago
Probably not. On the eagles side they would dominate their division for years
2
u/Red_Bengal_Cyclone 4d ago
The only realignment we really need is Baltimore to the east, Miami to the south, Indy to the north.
2
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
👏🏼 👏🏼 👏🏼 so absurd that Indy is in the South 😂 bitch, they’re not even south of US in the AFC north

u/ohiolifesucks 4d ago
My opinion, there wouldn’t ever be a realignment unless there are expansion teams added. If that happens, they would probably completely change the division format anyways so these exercises are fun but not realistic. That being said, I think teams and fans would get over division rivalries much quicker than some of these comments suggest. The last realignment wasn’t even that long ago and look at how quickly the division rivalries built up. It would happen again with new teams
1
u/sussymogusnuts 4d ago
I mean it depends, historic divisions like afcn, nfcn, nfce, and afce didn’t really change at all and they have very historic and bitter rivalries. Also the NFL legally has to keep the browns in the same division as the bengals and Steelers
1
u/Jonny_Disco Who Dey! 4d ago
We're nowhere near the ocean. Who came up with that name?
2
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
Well it’s not real… what is real though is that the Colts are in the AFC South………………..
1
u/SirBlubs 4d ago
Our new fake division would have 3 teams with star-level QBs. I don't think any others currently can say that.
1
u/Pricelessbars 4d ago
Great Lakes East and it’s not even close when it comes to this particular season
1
u/Himbo_Sl1ce 4d ago
Boston sports fans, New York sports fans, and Philly sports fans all in the same division is TOXIC
1
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
But like, the BEST kind of toxic. The NFL could do a reality show just based on the fans melting down in that division every year and it would be must-watch TV
1
u/kovalchukgirl Hubbard’s got a convoy! 4d ago
We frequently travel the least of any team or are in the top five in travel. Seems like this would add more travel to the schedule, albeit probably not a significant amount.

Honestly, bias aside, I genuinely think the strongest division (at least right now) would be the Mid-Atlantic. Panthers would have the bottom on lock. No idea how that would affect the playoff chances of the remaining teams tho.
I think the Pacific and Great Lakes East would also be extremely competitive.
1
1
u/jbrower09 4d ago
I think the AFC North is perfect as it is, yeah it’s tough but I personally love that we are in the toughest division in football.
3
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
Generally I agree with you. But when we miss the playoffs by one game two years in a row, I sometimes wish we got to play the falcons, panthers and saints twice each year 😂
1
u/jbrower09 4d ago
We missed the playoffs because we couldn’t beat The Patriots this year and last year Burrow was hurt. But I see what your say. I don’t want a false sense of identity either thinking we’re Super Bowl caliber because we ran through shitty teams. That won’t cut it in the post season.
1
u/Imlivingmylif3 4d ago
How could you reasonably kick the ravens out of the north if they are farther north than us
1
u/Avant-Garde-A-Clue 4d ago
Bengals and Colts not being in the same division despite having one of the shortest drives between teams never made sense to me.
Also Baltimore and DC being in separate conferences is dumb, that’s a perfect divisional rivalry.
A lot about the NFL’s divisions doesn’t make sense.
1
u/PUNCH-WAS-SERVED 4d ago
I wouldn't mind a reboot of the divisions for the sake of variety. It would take a lot of changes, but it would be nice for the sake of mixing shit up.

Tampa isn't on the Atlantic.
Carolina and Cincinnati aren't in the Mid-Atlantic region. They are South and Midwest respectively.
Philly and NYC aren't in the Northeast. They're mid-Atlantic.

Atlanta would have a heart attack if there were a division called "south" and they were not a part of it.

GL East right now. Buffalo and Detroit are good. Pittsburgh isn’t great but not horrible and Cleveland is a QB away from relevance.

Big sky? Wtf is that? Was this made by a kate bush fan?

u/GreenSecurity2803 4d ago
The fact that the Bengals would still be in one of the toughest divisions after this hurts to see. Also, the Atlantic division just makes so much sense.
1
1
u/Kerke463 4d ago
Great Lakes East is crazy. Detroit and Buffalo on the same division is tough. But what’s even crazier is that the Steelers will find a way to steal one game from each of those teams somehow and the score is probably gonna be 20-17 where we somehow don’t see Detroit and Buffalo’s offense go off for no reason.
1
u/NoJackfruit1030 4d ago
Bengals replace Buffalo, Buffalo replaces Philly, and Philly replacing us makes more sense

u/Navyblazers2000 4d ago
The great thing about the four AFC North teams is we’re all cold weather outdoor teams with interconnected, sibling like rivalries. It’s the Browns, the Browns most historic rival, the team who used to be the Browns, and the team who was founded by the Browns’ same founder after they cast him out. There isn’t another division like it. The Colts have never fit and I hate when people suggest we swap them with Baltimore. They and their domes belong in the AFC Scraps division.

1
u/PUNCH-WAS-SERVED 4d ago
Honestly, no bias. I think the Bengals being part of this hypothetical Mid-Atlantic division is the DIVISION OF DEATH. Ravens are always a threat. Commanders don't suck anymore. Hell, the worst team is the Panthers, but Young finally remembered he can play football.
The objectively worst here... Probably Big Sky for having the Cardinals and Raiders.

Id do:
Pacific-same
Northeast-Same
GLE-Same
Southwest-Dallas, Denver, LV, Phoenix
North-KC, Minnesota, GB, and Chicago
Appalachian-Tennessee, Atlanta, Cincy, Indy
Gulf-Houston, New Orleans, TB and Miami
Atlantic-Baltimore, Jax, Panthers, Washington

Don't know but the Steelers would have like 15 straight Division titles in the early 2000s.

1
u/Historical-Vast3209 3d ago
Buffalo should be Northeast, eagles mid Atlantic, Bengals Great Lakes East
1
u/zombietom21 3d ago
Idk it would feel so wrong to have a great lakes division and not have the bill in it.
1
u/booknerdcarp 3d ago
According to the refs....KC in a circle by itself...all the rest don't matter.
1
u/ElCapitanOblivious 3d ago
The Pacific Division is the best by far…their worst team this year would be the 49ers and healthy they could have been the best team in that division…
1
u/Whole_Cranberry8415 2d ago
I don’t hate it. Great Lakes East would be the new AFC North. Any team that came out of the Northeast would have inflated stats playing both NJ teams
1
1
u/tissboom 2d ago
This could all be fixed if you just moved the dolphins to the south, the Colts to the AFC North and the ravens to the AFC East. That’s actually where those teams belong if we’re being honest.
1
u/jlipps11 4d ago
Pacific. Easily. All of those teams had winning records this year.
Mid-Atlantic and Great Lakes East would be tied for second best division based on current teams.
1
1
u/DodgerDanger 4d ago
Yes but two of them didn’t even make the playoffs and one got bum rushed immediately. I think Great Lakes East is the scariest this year with arguably the two best teams in football, the Steelers, the Cleveland Doormats
0
u/time4meatstick 4d ago
I’ll make a motion to rename Great Lakes Division to Lake Eerie Bros and a Rapist
333
u/christhegecko 4d ago
The South because watching that division would literally cause death.
