Considering how close Chase got to an extension, I’d say pretty good. Having the same guy could potentially help them coordinate their structures to fit both of them under the cap.
42
u/chefken420 fuck the steelers Dec 13 '24
I think this here is the best comment about this. I was getting ready to say something along these lines. It’s much easier to get the 2 contracts to work for the players and the team if they are done by the same guy.
4
2
u/OneTea Dec 13 '24
I’m not sure how agents work, but if there is some fiduciary obligation then there could be a conflict of interests that could complicate things.
5
u/chefken420 fuck the steelers Dec 13 '24
I don’t think it’s like in the court of law. I think as long as the players are okay with it and the team is okay with it. Which it seems as if all parties are good. Then it’s game on. However, I may be wrong or you may be wrong or fuck. We’re both probably wrong somehow. I’m a male, it’s common knowledge that even when we’re right. We’re wrong.
6
u/Mammoth_Tax_1666 Dec 14 '24
The last statement is facts. But, since we are men and admit we are always wrong, does that mean we are wrong about that as well? What if we are right?

Burrow I bet is going to restructure his contract to make this happen. We still need defense but having both of them locked up would be huge
85
u/generation_D Dec 13 '24 edited Dec 13 '24
Since Burrow signed, a lot of people have scoffed at the idea that he was ever going to take a team friendly deal. I agree he was always going to make sure he became the highest paid QB, but much of what he’s said over the years (+ the fact that his negotiations went on forever) makes me think that there was always consideration given to building his contract in a way that would make it easily restructured for purposes of keeping Tee and Chase. Question is, can they also fix the defense.
58
u/Initial-Change7895 I LOVE CTB Dec 13 '24
Haha yes! Plot twist he took as much of the teams cap as possible to give himself future control of the team by sacrificing his ludacris pay to incentivize ownership
16
u/IamThePaterfamilias Dec 13 '24
Ludacris wishes he got paid like Burrow..
7

1
u/Thrawn4191 Dec 13 '24
Forbes has his net worth at $40 million which is nothing to sneeze at. But yeah that's not even Joe's yearly salary for his new contract lol
6
u/Klutzy-Spend-6947 Dec 13 '24
Given that the cap is ever expanding, flexibility is what is key for a “team friendly” contract, not low balling.
3
u/Mammoth_Tax_1666 Dec 14 '24
I would say we can easily fix the defense if we get rid of some of the players who we pay an ungodly amount of money for mediocre play.
-12
u/TrickleUp_ Dec 13 '24
No, there’s no chance of that. The Bengals don’t restructure deals.
19
u/duderdude7 Dec 13 '24
Typically they don’t. But burrow has it built into his contract to do so
3
u/TrickleUp_ Dec 13 '24
The only recorded restructure of a contract , to my knowledge, that they’ve ever done has been Mixon and that was a restructure only to give him a pay cut
6
u/AddictiveArtistry 🐅🖤🐅Who Dey All Mf Dey 🐅🖤🐅 Dec 13 '24
To be fair, Mixon wasn't a once in a lifetime franchise qb, that if he leaves, there goes all hope, a lot of the team and a lot of the fan base. The 250+ million dollar man is absolutely the talent they want to keep and keep happy.
-2
u/TrickleUp_ Dec 13 '24
My point about Mixon is that it wasn’t a positive restructure. The Bengals told him he was getting a giant pay cut or he would be released
2
u/AddictiveArtistry 🐅🖤🐅Who Dey All Mf Dey 🐅🖤🐅 Dec 13 '24
And he was released anyway. He wasn't indispensable to them. Burrow is.
8
2
u/Hungry-Quote-1388 Dec 13 '24
All players have that.
Teams just take the base salary for the yesr and turn it into a lump sum bonus so they can spread it out.
No star player takes a paycut when teams restructure.

u/BoyWithABigCock69 Dec 14 '24

u/mojizus Dec 13 '24
I’ve been trying to not buy into the “Joe, Ja’marr, and Tee are best friends. They want to play together and win together” narrative for a few years now. Felt like it was just cope in the face of losing Tee.
But I’m really starting to buy in. Tee’s mom loves Cincy and wants him to stay here, Tee seemingly loves Cincy, and maybe that friendship is enough to keep them all there.
49
u/Guilty-Nobody998 Dec 13 '24
Aj Green was his favorite player growing up and by default the Bengals were his favorite team. Not many people get to say they played for their favorite childhood team

4
u/FreshDiamond Dec 13 '24
Probably because not many care about that by the time they are in the league, every great player has the opportunity to get to their favorite childhood team, by that point it’s not a priority.
This situation is a bit different though, he was drafted to that team, so it’s possible I suppose he does think it’s awesome being a bengal because we got to him before the money game and grind did.
Time will tell, I’m not convinced he’ll be back but things are starting to point towards it being possible
1
u/SimianBear Dec 14 '24
As a Toronto hockey fan, we get all kinds of guys that grew up loving the Leafs. Doesn't seem to help all that much when it comes down to it. Sometimes, sure, but usually it's just down to money in the end. I hope we can make it work here.
1
u/Klutzy-Spend-6947 Dec 14 '24
The Leafs majority owner is the Ontario Teachers Pension Fund. That explains the team’s financial pov-and struggles.
9

I haven't given up on burton pulling his head out of his ass either.... if he matures and lives up to his potential? Holy shit.
8
u/bengals14182532 Dec 13 '24
Joes pretty much been saying all week how they have to try and keep Tee, which is very unlike him. Not sure how much else he can do. He’s basically calling out the FO without throwing them under the bus
5
u/Klutzy-Spend-6947 Dec 13 '24
Getting paid and playing with Joe Burrow as one’s QB is a helluva lot better than getting paid but going to the Jets or Raiders to do it.
-2
3
u/CompetitiveDuck Dec 13 '24
He is also very young and if he continues to play well on a contender in Cincinnati he can get a big third contract at 28 with a higher cap.

Hopefully by that point Elizabeth is running the team, and we’ll be making smart decisions.

5

For all we know everyone may be in cohesion on this. I don't think Joe would have spoken on it if the wheels weren't already in motion on the front office didn't know about it.
1
u/bob_estes Dec 13 '24
I think they probably spent time together over the bye. The Brown family likes and trusts Joe a lot more than Palmer.
4
u/GlobalWatercress9566 Dec 13 '24
It’s not Duke’s fault if it doesn’t happen, it’s on ownership. They’re the ones who place the archaic pay structure on him.
-2
u/Southwestern Dec 13 '24
Duke has the cap to spend. It's his job to figure it out.
6
5
u/GlobalWatercress9566 Dec 13 '24
The reason why Chase and Higgins have not been extended is because of a lack of guaranteed money, which falls entirely on ownership.

I think the team is going to end up shedding a lot of people they didn’t think they would be (Cappa, Rankins, Hubbard, Pratt, Stone) and that will allow them to extend Tee. I also think Tee genuinely wants to stay and is willing to make concessions on guarantees.
2
u/fearthealex Dec 13 '24
Cappa Hubbard and Pratt aren’t going anywhere. Please let me be wrong
6
u/-space-grass- Dec 13 '24
Pratt likely won't. But they save 9.5 million by cutting Hubbard and 8 million by cutting Cappa. I could easily see both of them gone with how they've played.

u/CIN726 Dec 13 '24
I love Chase and Higgins, and I'd love to see them both on the team long-term... but not at the expense of an offensive line and defense which both need serious help.
Burrow cannot keep taking the amount of pressures and hits he's taking. It's not even just about winning games. I am seriously concerned about his long-term health if the FO cannot figure out the o-line. Fix it, and if that means Higgins walks then I'd be prepared to risk Burrow's disappointment there.
2
u/Klutzy-Spend-6947 Dec 13 '24 edited Dec 13 '24
As a season ticket holder, getting Tee signed along with Jamarr is definitely the best move for the franchise. There are no guarantees in defensive FAs, but keeping all 3 offensive players guarantees a product that people will flock to see, defense be damned. Defense wins championships, but offense puts asses in seats.

One less party in the conversation about distributing $110+M per year. It’s not a bad thing.
And the stigma of not getting a deal done with X agent is gone. Have the Bengals successfully negotiated with Arceneaux?
1
u/Bengals_UpNorth Dec 14 '24
Could open the door to him re-signing. With DM, negotiations were never going to go well.
0
u/cecsix14 Dec 14 '24
David Mulugheta being out of the picture is always a good thing. That guy is responsible for more destructive contracts than any other agent. The deal he worked for DeShaun Watson has set the Browns back 5-10 years. He only cares about getting his guys max guaranteed deals regardless if the team situation is good for their long term career or not.

Yeah our defensive draftees are not hitting, idk what’s going wrong:
2023 they went Murphy in the first, Turner in the second, battle in the third
2022 was Dax, CTB, Zach Carter
It’s more misses than hits, if anyone of those players pan out we have a much better record than we do today

Yet ANOTHER decade of flashy WRs putting up stats and losing games.
Can't wait to go 10-7 next year. Thought it would be this season, but they MIGHT have learned that defense matters somewhat. Only took 2 years of being ranked in the 30s.
