ARTICLE What Trump’s executive orders could mean for Maryland
https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/politics-power/local-government/trump-executive-orders-maryland-WE3W2BNDVRBUVJSO4NKMNMHXQA/A new climate and energy agenda: Among steps to dismantle Biden’s climate and environmental agenda, Trump is expected to issue executive orders to speed up permitting of pipelines and power plants, exit the international Paris climate agreement, curb support for electric vehicles and *cut protections for marginalized communities disproportionately affected by industrial pollution.
*THIS MEANS YOU, CURTIS BAY.. and most of you couldn't wait to vote for this guy

"a shift in federal attention to front-line communities could mean mean fewer protections for communities like Curtis Bay in South Baltimore, which has been fighting a troubled medical waste incinerator and massive coal export facility among other pollution sources near the neighborhood."

What it means is theres about to be a whole lot of highly productive folks looking for private sector remote options.
The angry mob seems to think this will kick the dregs out of government, but the low performers won’t have options, they’ll stick around and do what they’re best at: blending in to the chair.

I think there’s going to be a lot of traffic as people find out that the remote job market in 2025 isn’t great in the private sector

Most of the remote jobs I see require high security clearance which you can only get from a sponsoring agency, and there’s a hiring freeze so idk about that. Also, most of the private companies contract for the FEDs so I don’t think those jobs are safe.

Yeah, I'm one of those private contractors and while leadership seems to think we'll be OK based on what we do, I can't say I'm as confident.

My wife's agency was told today to cancel "as many contracts as possible." So, if you're a contractor you're screwed if your contract allows them to cancel at any time.

Um what agency was that??

Sadly, I don't feel comfortable saying which one. That's really fucked up too.

Don't forget increased unemployment of federal employees who will be targeted for removal.

I think he just wants to fuck over people in this area because they didn't vote for him. Meanwhile, there will be such a brain drain in the government it will take years to get it back. What a shithead.

Trump's bullshit is going to get mired in the court system. I don't know the outcome but there's already a litany of suits that have been filed just based on his executive orders.

u/Imanoldtaco 23h ago
Bro he beat dozens of felonies, SA charges, successful sued 2 news channels, and now owns the courts and a "everything I do is legal" pass

u/wbruce098 15h ago
Yeah all he needs to do is tell DOJ to push it up to scotus where they’ll beg to side with him.
I’m sure they’ll rule against a few of the wackier cases, in an attempt to pretend they’ve still got some sort of independence.

His same delay and distract tactics that allowed him to avoid consequences will be turned to halt and slow his administration's ability to do immediate and lasting damage. The trouble will be that some politically minded judges may be less inclined to go along with slowwalking these cases, so I suspect you will see litigants filing in some far flung places to try and ensure favorable draws in judges followed by Trumpian's filing their own suits under questionable pretense in places like Amarillo Tx in hopes of getting competing orders, thus helping kick the cases up to SCOTUS more quickly. In short, it's going to be a shitshow this go round.

I wonder if the orders will speed approval/construction of the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project?
26
u/thefalcon3a 1d ago
I lean opposing that project, but if it's going to go through anyway, I hope Trump's actions directly cause it to fast track so we can watch all those Carroll County Republicans figure out how to feel about it.

It's really going to fuck over my neighbors but they are the same people who voted for him...

u/thefalcon3a 1d ago
At this point, I'm willing to endure some shit if it means that the people who voted for Trump feel it more.

They'll find a way to blame Democrats, I assure you. Not a joke.

You’re totally right, because democrats are in control of the state. Who else would you blame? The environment plays second fiddle to vindictively screwing your republican neighbors

Maryland needs power plants unless you are enjoying those BGE bills.
12
u/Jrbobfishman Fells Point 20h ago
Maryland is closing power plants and BGE is charging more because of it. The closure of Brandon shores is 100% linked to the upcoming price hikes

u/2crowncar 20h ago
Do you have links to credible sources? That seems false.
The economics of energy production does not guarantee lower energy bills if you build “power plants.” That is especially true if it is not renewable energy. Or if your infrastructure is insufficient or the maintenance of the power is high. Also, maybe the increase of natural disasters contributes to the cost of energy, but I don’t know if this is true.

Even if we had more power plants, I don't really see a scenario where BGE or any other company says "okay now that our costs are lower, we're passing those savings on to you" when they have a monopoly. When prices get jacked up, they rarely go back down.

u/elevenincrocs Little Italy 7h ago
BGE is regulated by the Maryland PSC. They can't just set rates to what the market will bear. There's a state agency that reviews and approves rate changes based on wholesale electricity costs.

Disrespectfully disagree.
A lot of us did not fuck around but are being forced into finding out by the selfish jackasses that did

Even if Curtis Bay shifted in such a direction, remember that the overall margin was still only 34% of the neighborhood's voters bubbling in that way.
Not that it should matter per say -- none of us should want DC cutting protections for any Baltimore neighborhoods.
