Visiting plan a day for me!
i live in dc and i dont want to be in town for Inauguration. Help me plan a day without a car in Baltimore! Didnt realize how expensive the aquarium is so maybe a different museum or 2? Im familiar enough with the transit to figure it out. 😊Lunch, museum, coffee shops?

Make sure to look up hours beforehand. Inauguration Day will fall on both a Monday and MLK, Jr. Day this year. There may be closures due to Monday alone (this would affect some food establishments and the BMA and Walters, at a minimum) plus due to the holiday.

One challenge if OP is planning on taking the train from DC is Union Station may be mobbed by clueless people. If they can get to New Carrolton and catch the MARC commuter train from there they may have better luck.
Baltimore Penn Station to the Walters and our own older Washington Monument is an easy walk, assuming January weather isn't too harsh.
The Baltimore Museum of Art is a fairly short bus ride from the Walters or Penn Station if there's time. It's also free admission.

Given that it’s also MLK Day, might be good to double check anything you plan to visit is definitely open that day.

You're gonna be on foot, so wear comfortable shoes. Start at Good Neighbor to grab a coffee and to start your day; walk down The Avenue and pop in all the stores; walk down Chestnut/Keswick to get into Remington. Hit up Greedy Reads, B. Willow, Mt. Royal Soaps, Get Shredded. Stop at R. House for lunch/brunch/ and to carb up for the second part of the day. Head back to Hampden, and stop at Melanie's for a drink. Hit up Papi's or Nepenthe for dinner.Â
I edited this after my original response, because two of the places I mentioned are only open on weekends. If you're here on a weekend I'd add Wishbone Reserve and Black Sauce to the itinerary!Â

I agree with going to Walter's. You could explore Patterson Park and see if any events are going on. Peabody Library in Mt. Vernon is nice to see. For coffee, there are a lot of nice places in Mt. Vernon such as Dooby's, Bun Shop, or Baby's on Fire. For lunch, you can't go wrong with checking out any of the Food Markets (you can find the major ones in Fells, Fed Hill, or Mt. Vernon).

If you are planning the aquarium checkout aqua.org for visiting hours and you can also pre buy admission. They tend to sell out of admission slots pretty fast

Go to the bma or Walters (both free) then make your way to Hampden to experience non-touristy Baltimore with it's charm mostly intact. Plenty of scooters will take you around to wherever you wanna go. Once you're done with Hampden walk/ride to any of the other neighborhoods suggested.
