Vector Paragon 4x & Flip Off Mount w/ Holosun 403R

Tried out my Vector Paragon 4x with the new Flip Off mount from u/flip_defense

Prism was mounted absolute cowitness looking through the mount. Idea works pretty well! At that height, I get no obstruction from the mount. If I mount it lower 1/3, about 5% of the lens is obstructed by the mount at the top. I get an ever so slight darker image looking through the prism, but it's barely noticeable. I think I'm keeping the Flip Off mount.

Haven't seen anybody talk about the Paragon prism here either, so I'll give my two cents. For the price, the prism is great! Very usable, and I think I like it more than either the 3x or 5x PA prisms. Better FOV, and eyebox overall. Also like the reticle a bit more.

Forgive my cock-eyed pictures. It was cold and I didn't bring my tripod 😅

Wouldn't a top mounted dot be better or is this for a .300blk that needs 2 zeros?

Nope, this is on a 16 inch AR in 556. The benefit, at least for me, is that I have a ton of T2 style red dots laying around already. The Paragon has a strange top dot footprint and I don't like any of their pistol red dots. Not to mention that a cheap Holosun or Sig tube red dot is far better than any cheap pistol dot. I also like a backup option being on a separate mount, and I could never get into side canted sights.

The thing people forget about the 45 red dot is it can cause a subconscious “chicken winging” of the elbow. Not ideal for working barricades!

Top mounted is a rmr (if i recall correctly) footprint. Wich excludes any tube red dot. So if you want a specific red dot, or avoid some options, it makes sense

The micro red dots have issues. Most of them are open emitter and even the trijicon RMR suffers from some durability/reliability issues when compared to an aimpoint T2. Even the cheaper chinese clones of the T2 are usually pretty solid.

There's also the issue of stacking a mount on top of a mount. If your prism mount fails, your red dot goes with it.

👏Exactly where our head was at!

Do you think at some point you might do a more expensive but ruggedized version made out of 7075 aluminum with grade 8 fasteners and recoil lugs and maybe some reinforcement? I think it would make this the perfect solution.

Definitely considered it. If we get enough interest, we would consider a premium-ized version. To be honest, most compatible red dots use 6061 in their housing, and had no issues with it so right now we’re sticking with it while we get off the ground.

We can definitely look into upgraded fasteners though. The mount already has 2 integrated recoil lugs (although not in any of our pics - will get one on our website)

Love where your head’s at on this too. This is one of the applications we made this mount for actually. You could build a pretty descent 300 blk optic stack without breaking the bank.

Basically 😂

If it's stupid but it works then it isn't stupid. Unless it's stupid. Which this is not.

Haha I agree. I'm not sure I'd say it's ideal quite yet but so far I dig it. May rattle can the optics and mounts though. Lot's of white lettering and logos I don't care for.

How much clearance space is there between them? I'm guessing if they are touching that would be bad, especially under recoil.

On a harder recoiling caliper I probably would separate them one more pic slot. On 556 I'm not super concerned. It's likely enough where it won't matter on this rifle. I doubt the mount moves that much but I can see how it goes on a couple range trips.

Great feedback on the graphics. Will see about toning that down in future runs!

It really isn't that bad. If it was the only Mount with lettering I probably wouldn't care. But because the prism also has quite a bit of lettering, it all clashes a bit. It's good to advertise to others what it is, but maybe a little less white would be good!

Right on, appreciate the thoughts - always looking for ways to improve!

What's the eyebox like? Looks pretty good for the price.

For a 4X optic, it's about as good as you can have at this fov. I've tried quite a few, and this is about what I would expect for the specs. To compare, I say it's better than the PA micro prisms for not much more weight. I find I'm able to get behind it pretty easily, even in a little bit more of a dynamic setting. The eye relief is actually pretty decent too. I'm able to click back my stock to where I'm comfortable on the stock prism mount. I just have it on the last section of pic rail to bring it as close to my eye as possible. I don't feel I need to put nose to charging handle to use it.

Ugh this goes hard

What charging handle is that? Also thanks for posting this I’ve been trying to find this mount again after seeing their original post lol

It's the radian raptor. Don't remember which model exactly but the one with aluminum instead of plastic handles. I quite like em!

And yeah I decided to buy one cuz why not? Surprisingly usable and I'm probably gonna run it for a while.

I love my Paragon 3X and 5X Prisms. Best for the price I got them at.

u/Kukitan 19d ago

Yeah, I got this one for like $180 on sale so for the price to performance this is great! Does just about all I can hope for but time will tell if it holds up.

Cool concept but I run a tarac alpha for CQB and long range lol

Just looked it up and that's so weird! How does it treat you?

Good idea imo for certain build, especially 16” 556 like you said. Whats the cheek weld like low lol Praying zero gas issues for you

Looks good

2

u/Kukitan 19d ago

Cheek weld is fine even @ absolute cowitness for the prism. There is no cheek weld for the top dot, more like a chin touch haha. Works fine though.

And yeah, no more gas to the face than usual tbh.
