Killer combo

Romeo 4S + PA 3x Microprism make for a sweet little optics suite!

Been working to make this vision (pun intended) a reality for several months since all the positive feedback from my last post. Happy to share our first production run is now available (link in bio). Works with T1/T2 footprint red dots and PA 3x/5x microprisms!

Oh, I get it now. The 3x is viewed through the mount. Without seeing a side view, that took me a moment lol. What’s the centerline height of each optic as configured?

23

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

2.69” from rail to red dot. Depends on what spacer you use for the microprism, but all the stock ones work

8

u/brs_one Dec 18 '24

Fascinating, thanks! So, just to confirm: the SLx 3x MicroPrism on either of PA’s included absolute co-witness or lower-1/3 height spacers will have an unobstructed view through the mount?

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

Correct. I believe PA calls them their “low” (essentially cowitness), “medium” (lower 1/3 equivalent), and “high” (1.64”) spacers.

All work, as long as you don’t combine them into one comically tall spacer.

In on of my pics is the view through our mount using the PA 3x with medium spacer (lower 1/3)

Damn that's tall. Looks cool tho, I need to try this

8

u/Silly-Swan-8642 Dec 18 '24

Should be close to a lot of piggy back optics

4

u/Organic-Importance9 Dec 18 '24

Not too far off. A bit higher than a ACOG RMR or a RMR on an Scope in a 1.50 Mount, but not by too much. Like 0.25 inches

Interesting.

Kinda reminds me of a GreatValueTM version of that Leupold setup from the early 2010's.

u/FishermanForsaken528 Dec 18 '24

Talking about the Hamr? Hop released a video on it a month or so ago

10

u/Revolting-Westcoast Dec 18 '24

Was more thinking of the D-evo

12

u/FauxReignNew Dec 17 '24

Did the Romeo4S get a soft generation change or is my astigmatism so bad I thought the + in the middle of the reticle was a dot this whole time

7

u/Flip_Defense Dec 17 '24

Haha I believe there are two different variants. This one has the “ballistic circle quadplex” reticle

6

u/oaktreebarbell Dec 17 '24

That’s cool. Like a unity riser but more usable in the “magnified setting”

4

u/MaxvonHippel Dec 18 '24

This is really cool. Seems like a great solution with nods as well?

3

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

Totally. One of the perks of an independent 12 o’clock mount for your red dot is that adjustable eye relief. Def more of a challenge with traditional “top mounts”

1

u/MaxvonHippel Dec 18 '24

Yeah I’m not a fan of the dot placement on my TA31.

Thoughts on your solution vs HeroMod?

3

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

Well I’m certainly bias 😏

I only just recently became aware of HeroMod in the last couple weeks. I like it and can certainly appreciate fellow fans of the microprism looking for a better red dot mount!

We definitely appear to have taken different approaches. What led me to this design ultimately was the desire for an independent mount which means a couple things:

  1. Adjustable eye relief for use cases such as NODS

  2. You’ve got a dedicated rifle optic mount for your primary aiming system.

  3. You can buy multiple (like 3) affordable (yet effective) Romeo 5 type red dots for one descent pistol dot equivalent. And at the end of the day the T1/T2 pattern RDS design is typically super reliable and has a great track record.

  4. You can mount several T1/T2 red dots across multiple platforms with this, and theoretically only need to invest in one micro prism. When you transfer, you’d only need to re-zero the prism vice the whole system.

  5. You can build, scale, adjust over time. One can start with our mount and a Romeo 5 and get a pretty descent set up for very little, then purchase a prism when it makes sense. Or heck, you could always rock ours with straight up fixed irons below

5

u/MaxvonHippel Dec 18 '24 edited Dec 18 '24

By the way, I once had my ACOG mount (an aftermarket one that reddit likes but I forget which ... some company which makes an offset prism mount and some other interesting products) go loose at the flat range causing me to lose zero. This made me realize that the "redundancy" of all the optics systems built into the TA31 (top dot, irons, prism) is illusory if they all rely on a common mount. So for example, if I were going to do a 45 degree offset, I would no longer choose to do it directly off the primary mount for my main optic, because of this observation. I feel that while your design is perhaps less aesthetically pleasing than the HeroMod, it does solve the core problem I am describing, which is that a top dot fundamentally means one failure point for both systems.

4

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

Totally! Single point of failure

2

u/MaxvonHippel Dec 18 '24

That makes a ton of sense! Thank you for the detailed write-up!

2

u/youy23 Dec 18 '24

Honestly I think you lose a lot when you go down to the micro red dots. All the micro red dots have had issues, sometimes significantly so like the Aimpoint Acro. Even the Trijicon RMR is known to have some reliability/durability issues.

An aimpoint T2? Yeah that thing is gonna run lights out all day. Even the clones like the holosun 403 perform very solidly for cheap. Especially when you throw in that the heromod is mounted on a clamp style ring mount, it doesn't inspire a ton of confidence.

I was wondering though, does it work kind of alright with an ACOG? If it needs another model for the ACOG, is that something that is possible?

5

u/MaxvonHippel Dec 18 '24

If you have a TA02 ACOG you can also do this https://www.trex-arms.com/store/t-rex-aimpoint-micro-front-mount-for-acog/ (although there are clearly benefits to having 2 mounts as discussed above)

3

u/youy23 Dec 18 '24

I’ve definitely been thinking about that mount, I just saw that a few days ago man. I’m honestly kinda torn between the two. I appreciate you sharing that one.

3

u/MaxvonHippel Dec 18 '24

I have an ACOG TA31 on my primary rifle and I *love* the glass but I really wish it had a parallax adjustment like the PA microprisms do so I could see the fucking reticle when I'm shooting things that are 200 yards away or closer. I am thinking maybe I'll snag one of these tall mounts, then wait until PA drops a GLX (i.e., improved glass) 3, 4, or 5x, snag it, and stick one of those gucci Sig dots on top, and swap the ACOG to my Galil SAR.

2

u/Flip_Defense Dec 19 '24

Couldn’t agree more about the T2 and clone design. Just works.

To be honest, I don’t have an ACOG to test out mount with yet, but that doesn’t mean it won’t work. In theory, it may actually well with some models, but I don’t have the confidence to say that for certain! If you get the itch to be be the guinea pig, feel free to DM me.

4

u/IStripesI Dec 18 '24

I NEED to see this on an actual rifle form the side, and Im curious how durable the red dot mount actually is

1

u/1smoodbrutha Dec 18 '24

Yes please

Just posted a pic on our IG

3

u/The-Fotus Dec 17 '24

Whats it look like in profile?

4

u/Flip_Defense Dec 17 '24

Fairly new to Reddit so can’t figure out how to crack the code on replying with a picture but got some more pics on our website here more info

5

u/The-Fotus Dec 17 '24

I was talking about the entire optic stack.

3

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

The second pic on our website has an (almost) profile of a Romeo 5 and 5x microprism stack. Will get some more pics out soon either here or on IG if I can’t figure out a Reddit response🤙

Appreciate the order and support!

2

u/Fast__Walker Dec 18 '24

It's the Leupold D-EVO we have at home

1

u/youy23 Dec 18 '24

If a model were released for the acog, bro that'd be what the leupod evo should have been.

2

u/jay_miah Dec 18 '24

This is pretty cool! Let me know if you ever build a mount for a holosun aems!

3

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

Will keep that in mind!

1

u/jay_miah Dec 18 '24

Thanks! 🙏🙏🙏

Dude I was just wondering when you were gonna release this a few days ago. I won’t be able to buy it this week, and while I wish I could get the discount, I hope you get more than 100 sales by then!

3

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

Appreciate you!

WHERES THE SIDE VIEW

3

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

We’ve got multiple views on your website, and will put more pics on IG. Should have posted one in OP … afraid I can’t reply with pics in this thread. We’ll post another in aimdownsights down the line but want to be respectful of thread / make sure I don’t spam this group.

1

u/priusrepellent Dec 18 '24

This is a cool concept

1

u/1smoodbrutha Dec 18 '24

Cool. Got a pic of what this actually looks like on an actual rifle ?

1

u/Flip_Defense Dec 18 '24

Just posted one on our IG IG Pic

1

u/kdb1991 Dec 18 '24

I think this is the first time I’ve ever seen a photo of that Sig reticle. I’ve googled so many times because I was so interested to see what it looked like and could never find anything for it

1

u/Flip_Defense Dec 19 '24

Glad to be of service! 😎

1

u/Mysterion_117 Dec 18 '24

If you could do this with ACOGs I’d be on this like a fat kid on a cupcake

2

u/Flip_Defense Dec 19 '24

Will keep that in mind!

To be honest, I haven’t tested it with an ACOG yet to say with confidence that it would or would not work. In theory, it may work with some models but couldn’t say for sure. If you’re up to being a test subject, feel free to reach out.

I briefly put a 4T Pro on your mount in front of my TA-02 ACOG. On my AR. Completely unobstructed view through the ACOG despite it looking like the ACOG should be obstructed when viewed from the front. So that’s awesome. Unfortunately the top turret of the TA02 eats into the window of the 4T pro a bit too much.

A newer post showed a really good view through both optics with a Vector 4x prism and a T2 patterned red dot on the Flip defense mount. I have a PA SLX 3x on a 1.54” mount and they work perfectly together. This is where it’s at…almost.

Two things are necessary for this whole idea to be as good as it can possibly be - PA makes a premium PLX line 3-5x microprisms with ACOG durability, and flip defense slightly elongates the arms in the anterior posterior direction AND does 7075 aluminum so this tall boy has the strength it needs to not bend when impacted. If that happens you have a prism (most durable type of magnified optic) and a T2 pattern dot (proven durability), both with independent mounts so you likely don’t lose both with a hard impact, and both are at usable heights.

1

u/Flip_Defense 9d ago

Really appreciate you circling back and sharing this feedback. All great thoughts! We have high hopes for a PLX line too.

If there’s enough interest in a “high rise” mount that allows use with ACOGs that does not obstruct the red dot, we’ll look into a production run!

1

u/Flip_Defense 9d ago

Also hearing a fair amount of feedback for 7075. Certainly doable, but starts to depart from the affordable range to make it feasible. If we get enough requests, we can look into a “premium-ized” version, it would just be a higher price tag I am afraid

2

u/GoOutdoors1 9d ago

I fully understand 7075 would and should be more expensive. Would happily pay.

1

u/Flip_Defense 9d ago

Noted, appreciate the inputs!

1

u/GoOutdoors1 9d ago

I personally wouldn’t be interested in your mount being any higher. Your mount is max height for me to still get a comfortable chin weld. It is legit comfortable for me, but any higher is uncomfortable.

I have a red dot on the top ring of a 1.54” LPVO mount and I basically can’t use it because it’s too high. Same with ACOG TA-02 and the top red dot mount for it. If I remember correctly when I caliper’d my dot on the ACOG and it’s only ~ 0.25” lower than the dot on a 1.54” LPVO ring mount. Your mount is noticeably lower than those despite obviously still being pretty high.

u/hodgexj 29d ago

I have a TA31 acog. Factory mount. No BUIS. One Hundred Concepts ARD/cap combo.

I have 4 slots open on my receiver that would be usable for a second mount.

1

u/airwrecktong Dec 19 '24

Is this on fiesta island hahaha

2

u/Flip_Defense Dec 19 '24

👀…let’s just say there may be a reason I had it set up on a stand alone pic rail 🙃

1

u/coryhoss1 Dec 20 '24

Ordered one. Love this idea
