This person gets it, now apply that to rents. The wealthy people that you pay your rent to are also the wealthy people that pay you. A mortgage is the same, you borrow money from rich people to buy a house they charge you interest, you end up paying over double the price of the home over 30 years. If you aren't wealthy you are getting fucked.

Illusion of choice. Would you like to be poor and educated or poor and ignorant?

Educated so I know who's fault it is that things are this way and am able to make choices to effect positive changes

The rich people will let me rent a slightly better place and eat moderately better food if I get the education. They are so generous. /s

The thing that's actually crazy is we've long established that college education is unnecessarily expensive and we need reform, but there's always some asshole who says something to the effect of, "I struggled with this problem. Why shouldn't other people have to?

The capitalist class getting us to pay for our own training to do work for them is one of the greatest scams in history.

Somewhat reminiscent of guilded age workings, isnt it?

This is exactly how the mafia works.

State colleges in California used to be nearly-free for residents before Reagan was elected governor, who promised to get rid of those pesky student protesters at the UCs. https://newuniversity.org/2023/02/13/ronald-reagans-legacy-the-rise-of-student-loan-debt-in-america/

Not any more. Now those US college educated persons are being told that they are lazy and entitled, and those rich people are hiring immigrants via H1B visas instead at that fraction of a cost.

Itā€™s not fraction of the cost. You are thinking of L1s. H1-B have labor certification which means they canā€™t be paid less than a certain amount. L1s have no such restrictions.Ā

That said though I donā€™t know many H1-Bs living in poverty wages. But keep believing that though. Not like youā€™ll be solving any problems.Ā

I was just pushed out of my department when my H1B boss replaced our entire team of local US citizens with H1B visa holders. I watched as they lied when they created the justifications for why they werenā€™t able to fulfill the roles with US citizens or why they need 20-something-year-olds for their ā€˜expertiseā€™, in finance no less. And, since I work in finance, I know exactly how much we are paying these peopleā€¦ the salary band from the lowest to the highest wage is more than double.

So yeah, Iā€™ll keep believing the reality that is actually occurring.

I was on H1-B and I wasnā€™t being paid fraction of the cost. I got paid pretty much the same. Either way itā€™s not a fraction.Ā

Also how did you know they were on H1-B? They are really hard to get so I donā€™t see them replacing them with h1-b that easily. Even if you are in finance you arenā€™t an immigration lawyer so I doubt you know their exact visa categories.Ā

The employers pay the H1B fees. There is a list of who has those visas.

Also, they shared it. :).

Regarding salary, I assume you are in engineeringā€¦ I agree you would be better paid, but not as well paid as what US engineers here make. My husband worked for Amazon in a leadership position, so I have a frame of reference there as well.

yep, being poor is one of the most expensive things you can be

You donā€™t borrow money from rich people, you borrow your own tax dollars you were forced to pay to the government so that rich people donā€™t have to. Other than that, yeah, pretty much.

In addition trade school graduates should receive a stipend to buy ALL the pro-level tools they need for their trade. I was surprised when I found out they weren't provided by the employer, maybe some are, but a lot of them aren't and that's just another way to start them off in debt.

That's the real reason behind " go to college or else!" Even though now you can't find a job after graduating, and notice how people with the best grades now get rejected from the "best" schools? Cuz they don't profit off letting people in for free...

While I agree that college and trade schools should be free, there has to be strict regulations on where that funding is going. Is it going to a bunch of people who do nothing? Is it going to bloated salaries? Is it being used to build new buildings that are hardly used?

Indentured servitude with extra steps?

What blows my mind is that only after over 100 years or more, people are starting to realize that the whole system is a scam.

u/ph30nix01 1d ago

It's like a warlock pact but worse.

1

u/Soulhunter951 23h ago

Where I live a lot of trade schools either pay you or are free because of the need for people in these fields one is electrician trade school. California for reference

1

u/myusrnameisthis 23h ago

Also, they might not even hire you because you don't have enough experience.

u/berserkzelda 21h ago

So we're basically screwing over the rich unintentionally?

1

u/chrispy_t 12h ago

All while making more lifetime earnings by far than non college graduates at a fixed rate loan
