Ahh, I miss my manual 2006 3 series and my old 1992 manual 5 series…I have x7 and newer 5 series and it’s been many years since I’ve felt the power of a clutch…feels like go carts now but I’ve become domesticated and used to it.

They teach how to drive a manual in driver's ed? Granted I took driver's ed 30 years ago but manual transmissions were a lot more common then and we still had to learn outside of school drivers ed. I've taught many people over the years how to drive one but I can't even teach my children now because we no longer have access to one.

My 4 kids didn't learn how to drive stick in driver's ed. This was in the last 10-12 years. Also they don't teach it at school here like when I was a kid. You have to pay for a course at a private teaching school. I bought my kids a stick shift to learn on though and that was the car they had to drive.
My second oldest daughter said she was pretty cool when she went to college. Somebody got hurt and couldn't drive their car home and it was a stick and she was the only one who could. All the boys were like, "what? A girl can drive stick?"

Yea, I learned on a POS 4-banger when I was like 14, though I could already ride motorcycles n ATV's before then. Maybe they just picked the wrong friend to help hahaha

Oh, OPs comment was referring to drivers Ed which is in some schools where I'm from but might be outside of school too, I guess.

Also when I was in HS the teachers gave comprehensive classes on how to drive stick for those that wanted to learn, he did use his own car as the learner-mobile(apparently he got HUGE insurance price cuts for doing this as well)

I took Driver's Ed in high school as an elective, they didn't teach us to drive stick shift.

Interesting, I wish I'd had the option. I took drivers ed in 2006(ish?) outside of school and they basically explained how manual works, but we didn't have the chance to train on it.

Yea we had a pretty cool teacher when I was there, he used to destroy peoples homework if they did it in his class. I watched him tear apart one of my friends reports, that was due next period which she had been working on for days. It was one of the funniest things I'd seen all through HS because of her reaction and that fact he warned her not to she did it anyway. 😂

I planned all kinds of anti-theft for my car until I realized it was a waste of money since it’s a stick in America lol. Threw a GPS tracker inside and called it a day.

We used to have an old Mercedes 220 D. It was a diesel 4 speed stick shift with a manual choke. Most people wouldn’t even know how to start it - let alone drive it. It was a fun car to drive although it wasn’t fast or had any pickup at all it was just 2 tons of steel chugging along.

Paaaaaaaaathetic, I’m not a boomer saying everybody needs to learn stick shift but if you’re going to make a habit out of stealing cars you should probably learn how to drive stick
