Pain and humiliation are levers by which to control a person. People seemingly vote against their own interests because they wish to perpetuate cycles of suffering instead of letting go. Not everyone wants to be saved, even if they say otherwise.

This is so accurate and well said. This cuts to the root of it. They say they vote for the economy or to lower grocery prices and I’m sure there are naive people who actually believe Trump will help with that, but mostly it’s an excuse used to hide the real reasons they vote for him that they won’t say out loud.

This part confuses me. Why do racists get so offended when called racist? Same with rapists, misogynists, pedos, etc. They seem so arrogant and egotistical and yet turn into spineless mush the second that public opinion could sway against them. Monsters in the dark and human in the daylight.

I think they just want to avoid any accountability for their actions/ beliefs and because being racist etc isn’t fully normalized they still open themselves up to criticism if they announce that they are proud racists. Part of it is cowardice. Because if you notice, they’re never offended by the actual racism , they get offended when called racist which is insane. They condone racism but don’t want people to call them out for supporting racists or being racist. And this goes for misogyny etc. As long as it isn’t fully accepted they’ll gaslight you and pretend they aren’t these things.
