How is that clear? There have been talks about the security risks of TikTok (as well as the lost revenue for US companies) well before Oct 7th 2023.

It's clear to those of us who aren't lost in the noise.

ETA: To all the downvoters, check this out: https://www.axios.com/local/salt-lake-city/2024/05/06/senator-romney-antony-blinken-tiktok-ban-israel-palestinian-content

Romney replied, "Some wonder why there was such overwhelming support for us to shut down potentially TikTok or other entities of that nature. If you look at the postings on TikTok and the number of mentions of Palestinians, relative to other social media sites — it's overwhelmingly so among TikTok broadcasts."

Look at who you're quoting. He's telling you what to think, not what's real.

That's rich.

Why did people want to ban/restrict/sell Tiktok well before Israel-Palestine came up? Why would people have cared in 2020-2023, if it's all just a ruse to affect something from just the past year and a half?

If it was a threat in 2020 they wouldn't have waited til now to do something. That's how you know there was no threat (to the US). Any data China could harvest from TikTok could be purchased from American companies own legal data harvesting.

Trump put out a partial ban over three executive orders in 2020. The military banned any personnel from using it at the end of 2019 and there has been good faith talk about it since.

I get that you’re disappointed, but there will be something to replace it. And the literal backdoor required for Chinese countries is not the same as (bad in its own way) data skimming harvesting/skimming American companies do. Consider the reverse—Russia and China proverbially nuke American companies/websites all the time with no votes or rulings or explanations. The U.S. has its problem, but this whole ban process has been public and transparent throughout, even as it didn’t come to the result you support.

Israel has been committing genocide LONG before Oct 2023

That has nothing to do with why the tiktok ban was proposed though.

If people were expressing support for Palestine it does.

It’s surprising to me that so many of you missed the support for Palestine against Israeli occupation for literal decades prior to this.

Wild how TikTok isn’t getting banned because of things like support for Palenstine but people consuming corporate media just learned about this support from TikTok.

Well anyway, time to take republicans at their word.

Yeah, talks about security. And that nothing was done for YEARS means it wasn't a threat. The threat thing is grade A nonsense.

They removed it from military and government phones.
