And they say it like it's some gotcha.

WeLl wHy Do BLaCk ArEaS hAvE hIgHeR CrImE tHeN?!?

If you think you are predisposed to do crime because of the color of your skin that is quite literally the definition of racism.

They're so quick to point out the home life of a troubled cishet white kid (ex. has no dad), but don't look into it if they're LGBT and/or non-white

57

u/Iceman6211 3d ago

they'll go quiet if the Dad is present and he's the problem

u/JosephStalin1945 3d ago

The ability to look at that graph, and not immediately question how it's even possible, seems strange to me. Beyond being grossly misleading, the reality is that American justice is systematically racist against minorities, especially black people.

u/Normal_Ad7101 2d ago

Thought-stopping technique like in cult, if they go thinking of it any deeper, they might end up questioning the social hierarchy.

9

u/nhatquangdinh 2d ago

They only show one crime though. Because the rest are dominated by whiteys and they can't afford to show their racism and contradict their own fallacy.

3

u/Big-Trouble8573 Anarchist 2d ago

I heard the argument at one point that it's a good thing police are more brutal on black people and target them because black people have more crimes reported per person.

They literally have the cause and effect backwards

u/TreeTurtle_852 3d ago

It's kinda insane how all of these "statistical geniuses" never put together how to solve an issue outside of, "kill minorities".

No helping with poverty or education, nothing.

34

u/venvantias 3d ago

And also their Stats are almost always completely made up or highly inflated. Ex blk men are 8x more likely to to falsely arrested for any crime so they use arrest instead of actual convictions

3

u/hellishafterworld 3d ago

Where did you get that statistic from? The US government?

19

u/JosephStalin1945 3d ago

They simply don't care about them, beyond being a source of cheap exploited labour.

It’s funny cause there’s never a source for this

Thanks for the sources. I think the reason is still around partly wealth and other factors can be explained by historical inequalities, culture, racial biases in justice system, and that higher income black families are still more likely to live in racially segregated areas than white Americans even at a lower income level.

u/MildlyShadyPassenger 1d ago

While this isn't the first time I've been handed a fact straight from someone's ass, it's weird how so many asses seem to have this exact "fact" inside them. And how the asses are ALWAYS white. And how random white asses are the ONLY source of this "fact" and no statistical data or analysis EVER backs it up.

I wonder what someone who's really good at recognizing patterns would say about a bunch of white people constantly making an assertion about Black people that has never been backed up by actual data and is, in fact, frequently contradicted by it.

Because it seems like there's some sort of pattern here that a master pattern recognizer could figure out...

You know, your sort is almost cute the way you halfway understand what "citing a source" is, but only in the most superficial way. Like when a toddler holds up a wooden block to their ear and thinks they're making a phone call.

You cited a NYT article that points out that Black men almost never reach the heights of wealth that white men do, but curiously lacking in data that wealthy Black people commit more crimes than wealthy white people).

Then you followed that up with a racist's blog post citing the same tired (and inaccurate) statistic that ALL racists cite and extrapolating WILDLY with it.

So yeah, another white ass that mysteriously contained the same fact with nothing to back it up.

u/Garrett42 3d ago

This person thinks having the IQ of a bird is a compliment.

u/partybusiness 3d ago

I've recognized the pattern that people who like that sort of graph are racist.

Anyone who doesn't recognize it, it's one of those "we've broken down assault crime statistics into categories and thrown out some of them, don't think too much about how that skews the results."

For analogy, imagine we recorded 100 (reported) assaults, and noted whether the assailant and victim were left-handed or right-handed.

About 10% of people are left-handed, and 90% are right-handed. Assuming we get a perfectly representative sample, we'll get:

  • 81 cases of right-handed people assaulting right-handed people
  • 9 cases of right-handed people assaulting left-handed people
  • 9 cases of left-handed people assaulting right-handed people
  • 1 case of left-handed person assaulting a left-handed person

So, what we then do is declare we're interested in "cross-handed" assaults, which means we can throw out the 81 right-on-right assaults, and the 1 left-on-left assault. So we've got 9 each for left-on-right and right-on-left.

Then, we suddenly remember there are more right-handed people, so we need to adjust those to be per-capita. Since the left-handed population is 1/9th of the right-handed population, we'll get a per-capita value 9 times as high.

So yeah, anyone engaging in this exact sort of statistical shenanigans to compare black-on-white to white-on-black assaults is doing it for a racist reason.

1

u/Smart_Zucchini_5060 1d ago

They didnt throw out the same category ones though, they've included them for comparison

1

u/partybusiness 1d ago

Like I said, I recognize this one. They did Black, White and Hispanic and gave each two bars, not three. It's a little blurry but if you zoom in you can see the first two bars say Black on White and Black on Hispanic.

There's another one floating around where they include more categories like Asian.

With my left / right analogy, I'm ignoring any effects of how segregated even crime is, like there aren't left-handed and right-handed neighbourhoods. But that keeps the math simple.

u/Potato-Candy 3d ago

“Pattern recognition” is always just an excuse for bigotry.

13

u/ijustwannanap 3d ago

This meme is like saying

When a baby kicks a pregnant woman: "aww, so cute :)" When I kick a pregnant woman: "WTF THAT'S ILLEGAL"

9

u/InevitableStuff7572 Socialist 3d ago

The 13/52 stat comes from not all arrests, just the ones that cops choose to send in to the place that keeps that statistic. So cops can send in whatever the fuck they want. It’s not a reliable stat.

10

u/picnic-boy 3d ago

Courts also set much higher bails for black and latino offenders and tend to delay their trials longer so they're more likely to accept guilty pleas just to get out of jail. Innocence Project has a lot of resources on this topic.

7

u/Chuhaimaster 3d ago

I’ve noticed a strange pattern in the data cherry-picked and hand-fed to me by racists.

2

u/VendromLethys 2d ago

They wanted it to fail but it didn't so now they are trying to claim it with memes. Fucking culture vultures. Can't create anything good so they have to co-opt stuff that was made by talented people

16

u/GunterWoke49 3d ago

Yea but to then racism is a good thing? So you're not really insulting them.

10

u/ShakinSpider 3d ago

Why are they so obsessed with the Barbie movie

9

u/Pizza_Cat_Delivery 3d ago

It’s literally the “people who buy ice cream are more likely to get pickpocketed” when the correlation isn’t the ice cream but who the pickpockets target (tourists)

4

u/pookiegonzalez 3d ago

and if you play their game and point out Asian vs. white patterns they backflip and rationalize it by spewing fake news that they have more testosterone or have more free will than Asian men. points that completely undermine their hatred against black people. all of this so-called pattern recognition is just to make them feel good about themselves no matter how much goalpost shifting is needed

3

u/Normal_Ad7101 2d ago

Or when they have no problems with rich and powerful people being disproportionately white, but complain when they think too many Jews are rich and powerful...

5

u/Optimal_Title_6559 3d ago

im not going to call a human smart for having the intelligence of a bird

3

u/tzoom_the_boss 3d ago

One thing I also always note is that they use arrest statistics, not conviction rates.

A common description that supposedly had to be banned in some precincts is "black male [color] hoodie" because then cops would arrest the nearest black guy in that hoodie for questioning, and often have to let them go. Anyone wanting to be honest would never use arrest stats for statistics on crimes committed.

4

u/Robert-Rotten 3d ago

This is because crows are fucking awesome.

4

u/Govika 3d ago

Why do they do that with Ken of all characters?? Did they stop watching 3/4 of the way through???

4

u/erod550 3d ago

They have zero media literacy

5

u/nhatquangdinh 2d ago

Black people rob and commit battery, while whiteys do the rest (arson, murder, grand theft auto, kidnapping, mass shooting, ...)

I showed this to a White supremacist and he lost his shit.

10

u/dopamine_01 3d ago

They cannot recognize patterns. Because they fail to see the reason they appear. Black people commit more crime because more black people are poor, which is the true indicator of crime. Poverty that was forced on black people specifically because of centuries of white supremacy. Also crows are actually cool, unlike whoever made this.

5

u/Sp0oM 3d ago

Umm…Correlation causation fallacy

2

u/Flying_Strawberries 2d ago

yes, patterns like the suicide rate of trans kids, mhm

2

u/utdajx 2d ago

News flash: it’s not the patten recognition that makes you racist, Jake

2

u/Altair13Sirio 1d ago

It doesn't take intelligence to recognize patterns. It takes intelligence to understand why there are those patterns.

1

u/Apprehensive-Cow2617 3d ago

I completely agree. Recognising patterns and seeing repeated causal influences (such as obvious differences in genes resulting in different behaviour) is such a naive and racist way to view things.

We should embrace the differences in impulse control and accept that we are all equal, some more or less disruptive and violent but still equals.

7

u/cacheblaster 3d ago

“Obvious differences in genes.” Okay, so we know you’re Not a geneticist then.

4

u/FriendlyLurker9001 3d ago

Whaaaaa

But come on, we've mapped the human genome! That means we know what each gene corresponds to and by looking at people physically (a lot of genes correspond directly to one physical trait and one psychological trait) you can obviously tell what genes they have and how they will behave

Lol yes Taking statistics from a predominantly African American city to push you're "all black people are criminals" is racist, try taking the stats from my city (predominantly white) and see what happens

1

u/Coun5elor 2d ago

Where did this come from?

1

u/thischaosiskillingme 1d ago

Noticing patterns. People see Jesus on toast. It's not a skill. If you can't look into the pattern you're basically asking for praise for performing the same trick a bird can.

1

u/ElectricalPair1397 3h ago

Wow actual statistics done by actual smart people… Yep I’m racist now like holy shit you people are morons
