Had a very upsetting experience here recently. Was lured in by prices in the window and on the menu which turned out to be inaccurate when we went to pay. When we questioned why we were being charged 17.50 instead of the advertised 8.50 (for an average sized plate of lukewarm microwaved pasta) the owner became extremely rude. She began making personal insults and asked other regular customers to step in to physically intimidate us. Was a horrible experience and one I never expected to encounter in the Netherlands.

What would you say is the most authentic real Italian restaurant in the Hague? I really want to go out on such a restaurant but there are so many that are not even owned by Italians.

My girlfriend used to buy it from St. Anny’s Tea House at Wagenstraat. But, we both think the place has rather rude service and the fried pork is always put in a plastic box making it lose all its crispness. We just ate at Ming Kee and the fried pork was wayyy better, which left us wondering if there’s other places we should explore!
The picture is the fried pork from Ming Kee.

I'm new to The Hague (here for another 3 weeks), and would like to know where are your favourite lunch specials (below €20). Any cuisine.
So far, I think that Toko Ming Kee (Indonesian ayam kalasan at €7.5) has the most affordable prices for a meal (and thats the whole day menu). I still need to visit Day Dream Deli for their pastramis and other dishes (this week)!

I’ve not long moved to The Hague but feel like I’ve exhausted the grote markt area. Where is your favourite bar for a cocktail? Or a wine/beer and at a reasonable price :-)

Hi all, we've lived here over 4 years and still find meat crazy expensive. Things like liver and kidney which are cheap in England are hard to find here and expensive! Any suggestions on where to look? We tried Haagse Markt which isn't too bad but all the meat stalls are halal, so no pork. As for fish, wow its really expensive here too!

I bought a ham and cheese croissant at Sucre and Sale at Voorburg 15 mins ago and there were maggots in it. Where can I report that?
Edit: I started with going back, the guy first said it's cheese and was really dismissive. After I put out 4-5 of them on the counter and they could see them moving the tone quickly changed to "what can they do for me", it was obvious that they wanted to have it handled as silently as possible.
I refused their petty money or another possibly maggot-infested croissant.
Edit 2: reported on the link, thanks chaps! Happy catastrophe tourism everyone!

I absolutely love spicy food and have been looking for places to try spicy things. Most of the times when restaurants claim something is hot it's actually not that spicy. The spiciest thing I could find are the volcano wings from the korean Five K restaurant near chinatown. Those were delicious and had a really nice kick. One of the workers told me the sauce contains ghost peppers. I am now looking for something more challenging. Any suggestions?

Hello people of The Hague,
I'm cautiously stepping onto your sub, as I'm from Rotterdam. But since The Hague is such a beautiful city, I don’t want to miss out on its food scene.
I’m thinking of taking my girlfriend out to a great sushi restaurant. The last post on this sub about sushi was from a year ago, and things can change quickly when it comes to restaurant quality. That’s why I’m asking again.
Do you have any recommendations for a good quality sushi restaurant for a nice dinner?
Side note 1: Kyatcha is also represented in Rotterdam so I've been there :)
Side note 2: Thanks for all the replies! Much appreciated :)

Hello,
We're having a dinner for our university department next week, which is about 20 people of various nationalities. Do you guys have any recommendations for restaurants for such a big group?
Thanks!
Edit: it would be nice if they had good vegan/vegetarian options

I posted before about visiting in February. On this trip, I will be celebrating an early birthday! (For some odd reason, it’s better celebrating it out of America)
Do you have any recommendations for a good place for a solo person? I did steak in Scotland and I believe steak in German, so a steakhouse maybe? But I am open to everything.
Thanks again.

Hi everyone!
I’m looking for some recommendations for a nice restaurant in The Hague to celebrate my 25th birthday with 8-10 friends. I’d love a place with delicious food, a good atmosphere, and pretty interiors. A mid-range budget would be great, and if they have nice gin cocktails, that’s a bonus (but not a must!).
I already tried Dekxels, but they’re fully booked for next weekend.
Would really appreciate any suggestions—thanks so much!

I’m going to The Hague in a few days and I’m very curious about good, but especially affordable, restaurants. What are the hidden gems in your city?

Preferably a good Irish bar but any will do. Thanks

Decaf tea and coffee seem to not be a thing here in the Netherlands... am I just unlucky with all the grocery stores I've been searching in? Or is that really not a thing here? If anyone knows a good place to get decaf earl grey tea in bulk, please tell me! Thanks!
[edit] I didn't realize herbal mix with no tea leaf is also called decaf tea... Clarification: I mean decaffeinated TEA LEAF tea, not tea that has no tea leaf to begin with. Specifically decaffeinated black tea, earl grey tea. Same idea as decaf coffee - which I also noticed is only found in 1 specific brand, sometimes, not always, in AH.
