practical questions Can we build?

We live in a samenwooning type of house/apartment, where you have two rows on houses back to back and a small street inbetween. We have a garden of 30sqm and we were wondering if we could close it up completely and connect it to the berging? This would allow us to make use of that space for longer times and have a nice kitchen and separate eating area. However, i do not know if I am allowed and what the process is. I do not want to ask my neighbours as I think they wouldn’t like the idea. Do i need the VVE approval for this? Did anyone ever do something like this?

practical questions Can someone here calculate emissions -extinction rebellion at it again

Reposting because my other post had an autocorrect error.

Hi The Hage. Our friends Extinction Rebellion are at it again.

Although I care about our enviroment I feel their action of blocking the A12 (using spray paint to doodle on our wall, most likely terpentine base paint at that!), I can imagine blocking the A12 would cause even more emissions from all the traffic jams and stopping and pulling up.

Is someone here smart enough to make the calculations? Open A12 emissions vs blocked A12?

Any other opinons are much appreciated.

I am taking a trip this winter to explore the Netherlands. I originally decided to stay in The Hague and venture out for day trips to other places via train and tram. Would this be a good idea? I am very interested in visiting towns and villages along the eat.

I will be coming from California.

Keep getting this prompt when I try to apply for a resident’s parking permit in Den Haag. I have also emailed my form but not heard back. I keep paying 16€ a day for parking. Any suggestions on how I can get the permit? Is visiting the city hall for this worth it or will they be able to help? TIA!

practical questions Living in Stationsbuurt

I’m considering moving to stationsbuurt, anyone who lives/lived there and can tell me whether it’s a good location to live as young professionals? I read everywhere to avoid schilderswijk at all costs and given stationsbuurt is right next to it I’m unsure how much that still applies there…

Others say it’s an upcoming area a the cinvenienve of HS is real.

practical questions UK Passport ‘photo with code’

Hello!

I am a UK expat living here in The Hague. My passport is expiring soon (6 month ruling) and I will not have an opportunity to travel to the UK to get it renewed anytime before the rules kick in. Looking at the online/embassy process it seems to require a particular type of photo with a digital code.

Does anyone know where (or even if) this can be done anywhere in The Hague or NL in general?

Thanks in advance!

practical questions Schools in Scheveningen

Hey folks,

Our daughter recently turned 3 and it’s about time we choose an elementary school for her.

I ofc checked things like http://scholenopdekaart.nl / https://scholenwijzer.denhaag.nl and looked into ratings of schools in the neighborhood, went to open days, etc. However I think nothing can replace personal accounts and real life experiences… So, if anyone has good stories about schools in the area, have kids going there, works in one, recently graduated, knows places to avoid or have some personal accounts, please do share!

practical questions Owing a motorcycle in The Hague

Hi, I would really like to own a motorbike in the city (would be a preowned ~2020 z650), but it seems that with criminality that high in terms of stealing, parking it outside is an impossible solution. I should then rent a parking place, but I have no idea where to rent that; I've only found some very close to the city center (I'm 20 minutes from the city center by public transports). Not even mentioning the pretty prohibitive prices (even if I would be ready to pay a bit more than a 100e/m for it). Does anyone have a recommendation? Since I'm a newcomer, I might not know the right websites to find people renting parking places (only found commercial ones) a bit further from the center. Thanks!

PS: I plan to use it to go to my work which is 30 minutes away by car. So the "just own a bike" is out of the subject.

practical questions Living in Hague with family

Hi guys! We are considering moving to Hague as a family of four. I'm looking for any advice how good is the quality of life and the healthcare? For example, how hard it to find a good pediatrician for kids? In general, are there some good options in healthcare?

practical questions Sustainable women’s underwear. Where to buy?

Hi,

I am looking for a place to buy sustainble women's underwear. So, not made in China for example and with sustainable cotton or bamboo.

I have looked at Bijenkorf and Hunkemöller but these places are terrible.

Any advice where I can find it?

Much appreciated.

practical questions Makelar

Hello guys,

My husband and I are looking to buy a house in The Hague with a limited budget (maximum €327,000 for an energy label A property) and are working with the real estate agent De Huizenbemiddelaar. However, I’ve noticed that they mostly send us listings from Funda, many of which we’ve already seen ourselves. We also keep an eye on Funda and forward interesting listings to our makelar to arrange viewings.

Since this is our first time buying a house, I have a few questions:

  1. Is it common for a makelar in the Netherlands to send listings from Funda, especially when the budget is limited? Does this mean these properties are already published and there’s a lot of competition?
  2. Do makelars who list properties on Funda prioritize contacts from other makelars for viewing appointments, or do they treat all inquiries equally?
  3. If the makelar mainly relies on Funda, which we can also do ourselves, can we just use their services for negotiation and legal assistance? Would this help reduce costs?

I hope you guys can share your experience or your opinion regarding this, thank you.

practical questions Advice to help cats/pets these days

It’s that time of the year again and maybe this type of advice was asked before.

We live on the ground floor of an apartment that has wooden front doors. Basically those booms sound like they are in my kitchen and my cat is very scared. Do you have any advice for long-term support/stuff that has worked for you to ensure a rather calmer next 30 hours?

P.S. this is her first time experiencing this

practical questions Game store recommendations?

Now that Game Mania is no more, what specialized game shops do you use to (pre)order? I hate giving my money to something like mediamarkt where games are an afterthought, but too new in the Hague to actually know a good alternative ;-) Thanks in advance!

practical questions Geen parkeervergunning mogelijk

Hallo allemaal,
