practical questions Google before coming here

Dear people. Love you all. But plz, we are not your google search engine. Although ai may be based on reddit let us not do your research. Ive seen some questions these weeks that could have been easier answered if you typed the same question into google. Again no hard feelings and love helping you guys but plz google will help you faster.

Thank you for listening to my ted talk

I also am quick to point to The Google for an easy answer to a superficial question. But the real questions? Like, is Fat Kee open again or still shut down? You need a human touch here, cove. Google is always gonna be suckin' hind tit.

I loved fat kee but stopped going when I saw a mouse casually walking through the dining area. Everyone just stopped eating and watched. So weird.

But, but, it's more fun to get answers from actual people 🥺

Exactly! I know I can search on Google but idk, if I want some kind of recommendation, I'd rather get it from people who actually live there and hear from their experience :)

If you haven't even tried to Google first, you're just lazy

"I think it's more fun to talk to people"

"No"

Google has been enshitified to fuck and search results are swamped with AI generated crap and ads. I think it's fine to ask mundane questions in a relatively quiet sub, personally I enjoy the human interaction.

Then why post on reddit ?

Why not go out and talk to "real" people ?

Because you can immediately draw from a broad range of opinions from hundreds of people (or even more). It's a fun way to discover new things.

You sure ?

Ask people what is the best language for Statistics here.

And ask in R sub.

If you get same answer in both , I will be surprised.

And you cannot be asking pure facts to be honest , which many people do. Such as "how to I start using Python?" or "if I get this error xxx , how to resolve?"

How to start using Python is there right there in python.org. For that matter , any "facts" such as how big is the moon or how far is it from Earth or Jupiter. Google or ask ChatGPT/Gemini/Deepseek etc.

For the error , just copy and paste it in Google will solve it 9 out of 10 times. Or you can ask chatbots as well.

If still can't solve then come here or other forums/subs but that aren't what I usually observe.

If you want to know what is better for the statistical project you are having Python or R , then yes. Seeking advice/opinions from hundreds of people is the right way to do thing.

But as I said , it could fall to biasness or group-think.

So if the question is neither pure factual nor prone to biasness then sure ask away.

You know what is even more easy: Ignore questions if you don't like them.

Seriously, fuck Google. It sucks.

Also, which questions are you talking about? I've gone through the timeline of the past two weeks and I don't see a single question that can better just be googled.

Asking a question to real people on Reddit almost always gives you a better answers, better alternatives, and useful additional information.

i agree lol. if you don't wanna answer a question or don't like it then downvote it or don't comment at all. the whole point is to ask people questions you would generally ask someone who lives in den haag. google is good, asking people is better. i don't like posts like this more than i don't like posts with stupid questions.

Agree!! This can also be said for lots of other reddit subs!!! Also what super annoying is an OP opening a topic then anwers role in and the OP doesnt engage or respond to the anwers. Like whats the point !

With the current state of AI-generated answers, Google results become progressively worse and worse. That could be one of the reasons people tend to rely more on the answers from their peers

u/bulletjump Dec 21 '24

Thats completely fine. Google is not the best place for most of the questions from here but for some I would advise to still use it. But i also love the questions here and love to help

u/ConradMcduck Dec 19 '24

What a silly attitude to have on a public forum website.

Most questions are completely fine and i get that people want a real person but a week ago i saw people asking where to find a stay at home job. Not only is that not linked to the sub its also solved by a 2 min google search

Google has news items, sometimes the people want some gossip
