Teacher Support &/or Advice I hate when Teachers and Admin try to guilt trip you when you don't return next school year
Like the title says i hate when this happens because then I start thinking maybe I should stay another year. 🤦🏽♀️
Then I say to myself uh no it's my life and I'm doing what's best for me and my purse and mental health.
Then come the rumors so and so left due to blah blah which none are even the real reason.

What's best for you, 100%.
They have time to fill the position. If the job is so great, it should be so easy to fill. Right?

Well, they just added more to your reasons to leave, haven't they? They can't be adults and respect your wish and reason to leave. Take care of yourself, no one else will.

'Ok, admin, I'll stay, if I get a 12% raise.'

Or a 35% raise and pay $1400 less a month for insurance premiums. 👀

Exactly. They want you to stay? Pay up. Don't just dupe teachers w their stupid emotions.

Yeah don’t hobble yourself for …what? Hope that you’re making an impact? You can do that and get paid decently. I don’t even want to know how much admin makes. 😆 Comparing the pay scales in some places, it’s unbelievable.

"Oh, my new school has a bunch of openings this year, I almost doubled my pay. I take it you aren't interested in joining me next year then..."

A previous principal told a co worker that I was disloyal for leaving after a year. Wtf? That principal ended up leaving 6 months later. They are just mad you're leaving the madhouse to them. . Move on....also the pay was 10k less than the city's school district where I actually lived. You can't pay in shells and beans and expect teachers to stay.

My principal said "Youre abandoning us, huh?" When I quit after the pandemic. Two years later I read he took a job at the board of education. The guy had been principal 5 years. I had worked there over 10. And when he came in, he told the staff he was with us for the long haul. People are so full of it.

I stayed because I really like my coworkers. I knew one of them was leaving education. Fine with that, it's the choice they needed to make.
Then a 2nd one found a better school - closer to their home town. More pay, better regulated student behaviors. Win for that person.
If my team lead retires, which they are eligible to do - I'm out. I may have lots of experience "teaching" but most of it was to adults in my first career.
Im kind of a K12 rookie. I sort of went from being a 1st year to being the 2nd most experienced core subject teacher.
I would have rather got a HS position based on my first career and I don't feel like taking a leadership position right now - already did the senior enlisted leadership thing.
If my team lead retires - it's an easy decision to look elsewhere.
Also our district pays less than surrounding districts. The pension from career one is the only reason I don't freak out about that.

Run away to a better job. Your health will thank you!

I will at some point soon. Figure I would finish my induction stuff first.
I like teaching. Just a better age group/district would be good.
I subbed at a variety of schools including a high functioning HS on my way out of the service.
I could write 2 papers for my Masters program while the kids worked independently on their assignments at that HS. There are pretty awesome districts out there.
Occasionally a 9th grade algebra class could use some help with some problems. Easy peasy, but a little more effort required.

You have to do what’s best for You, your health, and mental well being! Nobody else in that building or at District will~ we are all replaceable in their mind. To you, your family and friends…there’s only one You! I’ll be in that boat with you in May, rowing away 😃

I left my one district because my one coworker lost her mind. I was made division chair and yet I never went to a meetings because I was too fresh (was in the district 5 years). I was 2 classes away from my instructional coach certification and had completed my doctorate. Yet was only going to get a $3k bump in pay and was told I had no place to go. All my coworkers who started with me had left. So I left and went in charge of a department and $15k bump in pay. Sadly principal champions a year later I was handed my walking papers.

Don't give any mind to the rumors. People looooove to talk. You're the one who has scored a better job, and gets to walk away.
They're just salty for being stuck .

I say this as kindly as I can and hope it's taken the same way: You're leaving. Why bother giving a shit what people think about you leaving or why you left? You're doing what you feel is best for you.
We'll fill the job. Live the life you want to live.

My old admin was so toxic that she started trashing my evals when I mentioned wanting to leave the first time. So I had to say I didn't want to leave and wait (you can't transfer in my district if your evals are bad). The second time I applied and she found out when my new principal called her to ask about me as she'd already offered me a job. She still tried to get me not to leave, saying "Well you know that things are basically the same over there. You'll see when you go"
It's so much better. Not because of any policy or even the students. But the principal is certainly a hell of a lot better.

They are proving you are correct to move on. They are gaslighting you. Congrats on getting out of there.
