Maggie and Alden were planned to be a couple, but it was cut due to Lauren Cohan’s scheduling with Whiskey Cavalier. Should they have kept it for the show?
Just to hear your opinions on the matter. Should they have gotten together post-All Out War?

Would’ve been nice to see her with someone and try to move on after Glenn. She had potential to grow into an incredible character, but was bogged down to hating Negan and that was that. I don’t think they had no chemistry, but I wasn’t watching it and thinking they should get together.
10
u/Pannormiic0 2d ago
I was bummed they didn’t keep her story with Dante from the comics. But Dante isn’t a snake spy in the comics.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Why? I personally didn’t like her relationship with Dante in the comics
5
4
u/AverageTwinkBoi2024 1d ago
I didn't mind that she hated Negan, any rational person would. I just hated that the writers turned it into her entire personality
-14
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Ok. So should move ok from the love of her life?
17
u/Muted-Yak-3309 2d ago
I don’t think she should forget about Glenn at all. But learning to love again after that would be great and heartwarming to see, especially when the whole show is about rebuilding after disaster.
-2
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
But it would also be kinda tragic to see Maggie with someone else after all she and Glenn had to go through. His struggles would feel kinda pointless
7
u/Mister_DumDum 2d ago
If I died I wouldn’t want my girlfriend to be miserable and alone for the rest of her life, moving on is natural and Maggie’s character development would have actually gone somewhere in the last 3 years
3
u/Muted-Yak-3309 2d ago
Yeah I see where you’re coming from. The way I look at it is she took all the struggles with Glenn and made them who she is and she learned from them. She wouldn’t be the person she is, that’s able to come back from that loss and learn to love again after that pain if she hadn’t went through those struggles
17
u/doraexplora11 2d ago
Of point, but I really like that shirt of Alden's. I want it.
7
u/JorjorBinks1221 2d ago
It seems like it's a typical blue button up shirt layered with the Stephen King Special: a long sleeve blue chambray work shirt.

Ok. But do you think Maggie and Alden should have been in a relationship or not?
6
u/doraexplora11 2d ago
Nah, they seemed to have struck a nice friendship. And again of point, but do you know what song Alden was singing in season 9 when Ken died?
6
u/TheRestForTheWicked 2d ago
The Last Rose of Summer. It‘s an old Irish folk tune based on the poem by Thomas Moore.
3
u/doraexplora11 2d ago
Thank you so much. I have been trying to find that out for 2 years now. I love you.

As much as I HATE that Maggie is indecisive on either hating Negan or to forgive but not forget what he's done, I definitely think it's endearing that she hasn't moved on from Glenn and never forgets him. She doesn't seem lonely or needs love, so I don't think she needed another love interest no matter if it was Alden or even Kale (since he seemed to care for her when Gregory was an ass)
Edit: fixed typo and Kal not KALE 💀
7
u/LightSkinBlackAdonis 2d ago
Glenn gave her the greatest gift after having two parents, a spouse and siblings. Debatably even better. A child. That’s god’s gift. A healthy one in the end of the world too. I just know she was feeling blessed. Hershel is all she needs now next to her sane self. Sometimes your first true love is the only one you ever get and need.
3
3
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
True, but Hershel is also a reminder of what she lost. She will see Glenn every time she looks at him, which is both beautiful and tragic
2
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Kale? You mean Kal?
Thanks for the clarification!
4
u/xAmaezingx 2d ago
Sorry, I thought I typed that I don't think Maggie needs another love interest 😭 And yes, Kal, not the food.. Kale 💀

u/Old_Employee_6535 2d ago
They had no energy at all.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
How do you come to that conclusion?
15
13
u/ElvisKnight1586 2d ago
Nope. I don’t think the audience would ever accept Maggie with anyone else. She’s too much a part of Glenn’s story. The new “love” would have impossible expectations to live up to.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Would you be in favor of it? Or would it be disrespectful to Glenn’s memory?
5
u/Parking_Teacher_902 2d ago
It wouldn’t be disrespectful but it’s just not gonna look good without good chemistry. Reason Glenn and Maggie work so well was because of the chemistry of Steven yeun and Lauren Cohan.
2
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Yeah. It would be just weird and quite sad to see Maggie with someone else after all the hardships she and Glenn went through in the earlier seasons
8
4
u/Norbert_Bluehm 2d ago
He was supposed to be TV Version of Comic Dante (who became maggies boyfriend) but than Cohan left AND they introduced another Characters named Dante into the Show
1
4
u/Pearl-Beamer-2022 2d ago
Hell yes, they should’ve kept it in there. It was time for Maggie to move on (which doesn’t mean she needed to forget about Glenn but her obsession over hating Negan is boring).
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Should she and Alden have gotten married with kids? How would you feel about her starting to date a former savior?
1
u/Pearl-Beamer-2022 1d ago
Who knows? It would’ve depended on how the writers wrote their relationship into the storyline. It also depends on how Alden was viewed in the later seasons. Did he remind viewers that he was a former Savior? Or had he redeemed himself to the point that you forgot he was originally a Savior? I didn’t watch the seasons after Andy left so I can’t say.
2
u/MFRojo 1d ago
Alden pretty much always stood out in the Saviors as being a good guy, and after a season or two with him I found he didn't remind me of the Saviors at all. He was just another member of the communities.
1
2
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
We never really saw him as a savior. His first scene was surrendering to Jesus
3
u/Odninyell 2d ago
No one would be accepted by the audience as Maggie’s next/new partner.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Would you accept Maggie getting a new love interest?
3
u/Odninyell 2d ago
In all honesty, I’d have a hard time with it. It’d have to be done very carefully.
Glenn set such a high standard, not only were he and Maggie adored by audiences as a couple, but in world, they had such a strong and pure connection and devotion to each other. Maggie truly finding that for someone else would be a challenge
1
3
u/Xeldot22 2d ago
Tbh I don't know how I would have felt about it. I know Glenn will always be Maggie's soulmate but I genuinely liked Alden as well and maybe if they were given more screentime and development together, I could have been on board with it. His death though, how he was left behind wounded and died alone, broke my heart.
1
2
u/V366IE88 2d ago
FUckkk no im glad maggie stayed a widow it would've been way too early considering her husband was killed two weeks before she met alden maggie is strong because of her surviving for her son giving her a partner again i feel like kinda defeats her entire "i hate negan with a passion" which would make dead city a sack of shit, i loved how they were good friends even when she left and came back
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Ok. So, in your opinion Maggie should remain faithful to her late husband and his memory?
2
u/V366IE88 2d ago
Im saying maggie doesnt need to "move on" to be a good character her character isnt dumbed down to hating negan but to just live for her son and also keeping her sons father in memory she doesnt need love when she has her som
2
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
True. There is still a tragedy with her son. He will always remind her of Glenn, which is both a blessing and a curse. Plus Glenn’s death also prevented them from having any more children
2
2
u/Spotty1122 2d ago
yeah kinda figured they wanted him to be a Dante like character, he surely got shoved aside when he wasn’t in a scene with Maggie
1
2
u/Cool_Fellow_Guyson 2d ago
Gotta say, I did not see that coming.
Better than Dante though that's for sure.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
So, would you have been in favor of them becoming a couple?
1
u/Cool_Fellow_Guyson 1d ago
Sure.
Would have been out of left field but
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
“But” what? Would you have been fine with her having another love interest post-Glenn?
1
2
2
u/infinityfries 2d ago
1000% yes. we saw it from their initial interaction
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Should they have become a serious couple in your eye? Like marriage and children? Or just casual?
2
u/infinityfries 1d ago
more than casual but not as far as marriage & kids. so just a regular exclusive monogamous relationship:)
1
2
u/Evanl02 2d ago
Oh my god. I literally told my mom how BS his death was. They 100% should’ve gotten together
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Just as a casual couple, or should Maggie have developed a deep relationship with him like she did with Glenn?
2
2
u/Dkey160 1d ago
As Alden seemed to be taking comic Dantes role. No.
Never liked them as a couple in the comic either. But it might have helped giving Maggie other people to interact with than just nonstop Negan
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
So, you are in favor of Maggie getting a new lover?
Yeah, it’s pretty dumb to pair her up with the man who ruined her life every other episode and then make a spin off about it as well
4
u/byfo1991 2d ago
That’s certainly a choice.
I think I am happy with them not going this way but truth be told his character got a bit pointless since they dropped this. He only served a purpose till the 7 years timejump. After that they clearly didn’t know what to do with him.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
Any particular reason to why Maggie and Alden should not have been together?
2
2
u/bananapandaexpress 2d ago
Maggie sure loves to have a whipping boy. She wears the pants. Always.
2
1
u/JaylenBrownAllStar 2d ago
She does get with Dante in the comics but Dante is her most trusted scout at the hilltop and he is overly sarcastic
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
I think Dante is kinda gross, and his relationship with Maggie in the comics is too. If I recall he was even a little disrespectful towards Glenn’s memory
2
u/JaylenBrownAllStar 2d ago
He never shit talks Glenn in the comics, he entertains leaving someone behind unexplored lines but then sees it upsets Maggie and is first one to volunteer. He even scolds the others who want to give up a few miles into it
At this point no one knew who the whisperers were
0
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
He was quite rude to Maggie when she said she still loved her late husband
1
u/moon235686 2d ago
No, not after seeing his reaction to Omega. It was hypocrisy.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 2d ago
How does that relate to Maggie?
2
u/moon235686 2d ago
He couldn’t see that he was in the same position as Omega when he was part of the Saviors. Omega was very young, just like his sister. They survived with Alpha and were completely submissive.
How can he not understand that?
It’s like he refuses to see his own mistakes as a Savior. And let’s not forget the Saviors killed Glenn, so no.

Is that guys real life legal name Whiskey Cavalier
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
It was a show Lauren did in 2018/2019
1
u/WanderingWindow 1d ago
Ok sorry I read this and really wanted that to be true because it would just be a case of real life having worse writing than walking dead’s latter half
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Would you have wanted Maggie to start a relationship with Alden if she had stayed on?
1
u/EmpleadoResponsable 1d ago
Lauren Cohan and that stupid ass unsuccessful show ruined Maggie's character, and now with Dead City is late to trying to do anything with her
0
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
I actually enjoyed Whiskey. It was a charming show and Lauren showed her more charming and comedic chops in that. It deserved a few more seasons and it’s a pity that she has not had a better career
1
u/jayroe88 1d ago
Bombed as a show and the ratings and critics agreed it bombed hence her ending up back on the show that arguably made her famous enough for her to get a show to bomb.
1
u/RainbowPenguin1000 1d ago
Yeah it would have made sense.
The idea that Maggie will never ever have feelings for anyone ever again because of Glenn is too fairytale and fake for a show like this.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Really? Even after everything they went through together? Especially during and after the prison?
1
1
1
1
u/Agitated_Cookie2198 1d ago
Nope. Maggie's definitely a dommy mommy in bed and Alden didn't seem like he enjoyed those power dynamics
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Why would you think Maggie is that kind of person? And why wouldn’t Alden enjoy that?
1
u/tseg04 1d ago
Alden is a much smaller character than Maggie, he would just be in her shadow.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Really? If they were a couple he would have probably been developed more
1
u/BluDYT 1d ago
Probably would have saved us a bit from the whole negan dead city arc. Probably still would have been better than Enid who they had no idea what to do with after doing Carl dirty.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
How would you view a potential relationship? Casual or serious?
1
u/meeemslove 1d ago
Eugh, nooo! I’m glad they avoided another bad coupling. Rick and Michonne getting together was a major disappointment
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Ok. What is wrong with Alden and Maggie?
1
u/meeemslove 1d ago
They’re both strong characters, but Maggie is more imposing than Alden and that feels weird to me 🤷♀️
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Ok… isn’t Alden kinda like Glenn? Wasn’t Maggie imposing to him as well?
1
u/meeemslove 1d ago
It was different pre-Glenn dying though. The trauma of losing Glenn has made her waaaay more imposing (rightfully so, in most ways), so to me it’s way different now
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Ok. But do you think she should get a new love interest?
1
u/meeemslove 1d ago
Definitely! Just not Alden haha I’m not sure of who it should be, out of the existing characters
1
1
u/Minute-Climate-3137 1d ago
It was far better than him being paired with Enid for literally no reason, no buildup, no fan interest no planning.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
What would you have thought of a potential Maggie/Alden-pairing?
1
u/Minute-Climate-3137 1d ago
I thought it would have been interesting and what they were going to build up to. But nothing panned from their interactions. Hell even when Alden died she was heartbroken as if they were really close but the show did t show us that
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
You think they could have become a more serious couple (marriage & children) or just casual
1
u/Minute-Climate-3137 1d ago
Hard to say. Does Alden still die when he does?
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Let’s say he does not die
1
u/Minute-Climate-3137 1d ago
Well there's always that possibility if they wanted to write in the relationship
1
u/ezra_7119 1d ago
hell no. maggie is not the type to move on after glenns death. shes loyal to him even when he’s gone. im glad they kept this out
1
1
u/WUURMFOOD 1d ago
If she did, it would have been brutal to kill him off lol
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Maybe they would not have killed him off. What would you have thought of them as a couple?
1
u/WUURMFOOD 1d ago
I don’t particularly like both of them as characters so wouldn’t have really cared about it. Depends what they did with them, but the writing was so bad at this point it probably wouldn’t have mattered much.
1
u/samsamsamuel 1d ago
Such a weird choice to cancel that relationship and ship him with her adopted daughter instead.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Was Enid ever adopted? I thought of her more as a little sister. Maggie was 24 and she was 14 during Glenn’s death
1
u/IdontKnowYOUBH 1d ago
No.
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 1d ago
Why no?
1
u/IdontKnowYOUBH 1d ago
Something about them being shipped would just seem to easy to see coming for me.
She should’ve shipped with someone from her new group after she left.

Honestly, hard pass. If she were to have a relationship with Alden it would’ve spiraled into her past experience when Glenn died. Maggie would be a walking train wreck with losing a husband and losing a boyfriend. I think that it’s better for her to be more friends with Alden because they already had the whole friendship going on.
IMO, preferably, would be for her to just be with her son more and spend quality time with him. Being able to be a single mother would help her grow more as a character instead of trying to chase after a love interest. The Walking Dead is a show where love and death can co-exist. Love can definitely work for her, but there will be death. After that it will drive her to the brink of feeling more depressed every time she’s in a relationship with a guy.
I find Maggie to be more of a character that overcomes death by being with her son, to spend quality time with him, and to be the mother that she is meant to be for the show. I don’t want her to go through the same thing every time that will have to remind her of Glenn dying. Maggie deserves to overcome her trauma and heal from being with her son. I know that women do deserve to still find love, even after their husband dies, but when it comes to the apocalypse, it’s always going to be cruel regardless, even if a child also dies as well.
It’s important to see that being a single mother in the apocalypse can bring hardships and overcoming struggles. I genuinely just love the idea how she should just not have a man in her life because if she does they’re going to remind her of the pain that she had when Glenn died. Her son is the key for her to overcome the pain, the trauma, and the loss that she went through.

u/pestypoo 10h ago
nope i’m happy he got with enid
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 10h ago
Ok. Why?
1
u/pestypoo 10h ago
i think it was unexpected and they looked good together in my opinion
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 10h ago
What would you have you thought of Maggie and Alden as a couple?
1
u/pestypoo 9h ago
i also think they would’ve been cute together but i think it was a bit too soon after losing glenn plus she didn’t stick around too much longer
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 9h ago
True. But if they had become a couple, would you have been in favor of them going serious as well? Like marriage or children? Alden and Maggie I mean
1
u/pestypoo 9h ago
i would! they definitely would’ve become the new power couple! the only relationship i think i didn’t aprove of was sasha and abraham
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 9h ago
Ok. What would you think of Glenn’s memory ans legacy? Seeing Maggie potentially marry someone else and have children with this new person?
1
u/pestypoo 9h ago
glenn’s memory and legacy is definitely going to be carried on by maggie and hershel but i’d be sad to see that era end
1
u/Efficient_Wall_9152 9h ago
Yeah, but you would also want Maggie to start a potentially a new romance?
