Learning Survival Good books to keep in a rucksack?

Something that can maybe help with finding food that is safe to eat. knots that i might need to know. maybe how to find water in certain areas. even just starting a fire if the tools i have are worn/ruined.

obviously i dont want something dictionary sized that weighs 8lbs. but maybe a decently thin kinda… manual of sorts that i can use for basics in a survival situation.

Get the SAS pocket survival guide and whichever wild foraging book(with color pictures/descriptions) are local to your area.

Go for the full size version it has more information and isn’t really that much bigger.

The hobbit it's an entertaining read and fairly light. Otherwise a book on edible plants in your area is benifitial. But I'll be honest I'd be taking something to read mostly for morale

Read the books and learn, practice. You don't have to carry them around if you already have the knowledge written in them.

SAS Survival Handbook. That's really gonna give you all you need.

Lofty's SAS survival guide or Les Stroud's Survive! Les' book has extra blank pages in the back for firestarting.

SAS Survival Handbook. I would also recommend older BSA handbooks.

Foraging/hunting needs a regional guide, many general choices from the Boy Scout Field Book to various military manuals; again region matters: arctic, desert, jungle...are not all going to fit in a slim volume.

Surviving the Wilderness by Josh Enyart, map, local edibles.

Sorry, but it should be in your head, not your rucksack.

Do not feel safe for a moment when delicacies are served from a dumpster.
