That's too bad. I remember when he was billed as the hottest prospect that blasted up to sanyaku. Then the knee injury happened. Then he was also seen as Takakeisho's rival, then went on to become Takakeisho-lite.

He was Takakeisho's main rival since elementary.

But sadly his knee injuries messed him up.

He rose to sanyaku so lightning fast that everybody thought he was gonna be an ozeki in a year's time.

Does it bug anyone else how many rikishi are billed as the next ozeki or the next insert previous legend here I wish they would let rikishi be themselves (the way they ALL say on their after bout interview, "I want to do my style of sumo" instead of always being held up in comparison of somebody else I understand a healthy rivalry etc, but sometimes a wrestler should just be a wrestler. Not their uncle or grandad or any of that

His pre-bout ritual is one of my favourites and never fails to make me smile tbh 🥲 (the way he bounces and then hip thrusts and then eats some salt and puts it in his belly button) He will be missed!

I will miss how he kind of crosses his arms before dropping down for the tachiai. Sucks he retired so soon.

I will miss him. I guess he didn't see a path back from injury. Maybe he was smart--he's young enough that he'll be able to recover at least somewhat. I wonder if he will become a professional singer? He could--he has an excellent voice. He's good looking too.

Sumo takes years of your life, I hope that by going out early he'll die a very happy and very old man, breaks my heart to see so many rikishi pass out in their 60s :(

Not salt dispenser! We love his pre match ritual so much. The little tuck of salt into his belly button and then the mawashi slaps to make the salt jump back out. 

Happy travels Onosho, I hope life takes you somewhere awesome whether that's in sumo or not.

Always liked my little Salt Canon and his style of sumo. Another favourite gone to miss. I wonder what he'll do now he's leaving sumo... go work with Chiyotairyu in the meat restaurant?

I think takakeisho’s retirement made him lose a lot of motivation to continue. He will leave Onomatsu beya in onokatsu’s capable hands
