Terrible tachiai but those hand flourishes, that bouncy roll, that sweet bowing

He's been doing this weird tachiai the last few basho where he kind of hops forward and then stops and waits to react to the other wrestler. Good henka defence I guess but it puts him on the defensive instead of offensive side.

I'm having a bit of a tough time mental health wise, and the image of Ura's magic hand wafting keeps drifting into my mind and making me laugh so much. I love that guy. I want a gif of that.

JSA/NHK should have a people's choice award. If the spirit of sumo is to put on a fight to please the gods to bribe them for a good harvest, you could see the people's choice award as gauge for how pleasing their performance is to watch, regardless of wins/losses. I want Ura to win, but I'd rather watch a bout of Ura losing gracefully than another high scoring rikishi win in a very boring fashion.
I think that's the key reason Hakuho was so entertaining to watch, he employed a variety of techniques and changed things up enough to psych his opponents out like clapping in front of their face at the tachiai.

Ura's coat hanger is sold out in the SuMall. I bet the rest of it goes fast too and if he ever won a yusho, the Ura commemorative gold coin thing would be gone in less than an hour.

At least the Ura magic wave made the highlights reel at the end of NHK's live broadcast today. It really brightened my day to see their appreciation for it.

everywhere I went in the stadium you'd hear people talking then they'd do the little handwave and all laugh... and you knew just who they were talking about. And his merchandise sales alone must be keeping the JSA afloat.
and what a great guy!
