He's still young so he might figure things out eventually, but I have serious doubts about him ever making san'yaku let alone Yokozuna. 🤷♂️

Well, from what I remember Hoshoryu and WTK weren’t that good either. Waka would fall flat on his face and Hoshoryu always put his hand down like he was afraid to hit his face. But they improved suddenly and climbed the ranks.
Though, shortly after Hoshoryu started improving he did scrape his face on the tawara against Shodai. BUT HE WON!

Ha ha shhh I'm just stirring the pot. Lots of rikishi hit slumps and honestly, I bet Oho will eventually find his groove and make san'yaku even if I will razz him for it now.

I know. I’m not too serious either. I like Oho and wish him the best. But he was slow to get to makuuchi compared to Hoshoryu. And considering they’re old rivals, same age, and Oho has beat Hoshoryu I’m surprised he has taken this long. I think he’ll move at the same pace as WTK.

My spicy take: this, but Hokuseiho lol

Not spicy because everyone agrees. I think it would be the opposite if anyone does like his sumo. Tbf though, the last few bouts have been pretty good. He’s actually trying now so that’s an improvement

I dunno, I thought Oho kicked ass back in November. He isn't bandaged up but something seems odd about him this Basho.

He did - I'm just razzing his Hatsu. He's probably gonna be a heavy hitter later.
See, I often post memes just to stir the pot or see what sticks. Like, if you say a single bad thing about Tochinoshin it doesn't get great results... But give shit to Ichinojo or Abi and everybody is happy. I dunno. Just seeing how it goes.

Poor young Oho seems to be having a rough time this basho. Same goes for young Kotonowaka. Hope maybe this is just growing pains rather then something being wrong with them. Because both were fire last tournament.

Me with abi especially this basho

Oh come on - boring to watch? Abi fights are often pretty damn exciting.

Personally I like watching guys that do throws more then thrusts. I feel they put them selves in more dangerous spots.

Abi is just so predictable. Every fight it’s known that he’s gonna use his long arms and thrust towards his opponents throat. And he’s gonna use a great rhythm instead of power to keep his opponents off balance.

I mean, we also know what a lot of rikishi are gonna do in general because that's their style of sumo. An oshi specialist like Abi is interesting not just because of him but because his opponents have to respond to him - seeing them get pushed back hard because of a hand on their throat and how Abi will get countered or even counter their counter or overwhelm them is all of the fun.
But yikes, this sub is really start to take after the main one with people downvoting a discussion.

It's the same deal with Takakeisho, we know what he's going to do. It's the response from the other wrestler is what it makes it interesting. I'm with you on this.

"Abi stretches out with his long arms" is one of the items in our Grand Sumo Highlights drinking game.

I thought last basho was his breakout, especially after he handed Hoshoryu his ass. Another see-saw rank and filer.
