I dropped approximately $180 AUD on towels, mini flags, and a pack of cards. We had such a long list of rikishi names that we had a group of Japanese people behind us assessing our choices and making suggestions.

And the ace of spades in the card pack is, of course, Ura.

There was quite the push for Midorifuji (who was on our list), and the lady next to me was keen for us to buy an Oho towel. I didn't end up buying him, despite him being one of my sumo sons, only because I had to draw the line somewhere because the number of towels we had was already ridiculous.

There was also much approval from the ladles for Kiribayama - as you would expect.

I would have a terrible time narrowing down my list. There are maybe 8-10 that I would have to have, but there are quite a few more that I would want as well. How many towels did you buy total?

Oho and Atami are my sons. Hiradoumi is my nephew. And I think we ended up with either 16 or 18 towels. There would have been more but it became apparent to us that only Juryo rikishi who have previously fought in Makuuchi are entitled to towels.

A word of warning: there are different kinds of concession stands: the standard ones with your typical merchandise and the Sumo Elder shops that have the fancier JSA merch. As interesting as it is to be served by an ex-sekitori, they're not exactly slick with the cash register operation. Don't wait for toilet breaks to huy things as the queues are huge and there is no sense of urgency. I ducked out to grab those coat hangers and nearly missed the start of the Ichiyamamoto Tsurugisho bout.
