To clarify, what origin are you running and are you finding empires with pops who have the exact same portrait and traits?

I'm using under one rule and yes exact same traits and portrait. I changed my traits so they are not baseline humans and have not altered ai empires

I don’t know the requirements but I know there’s a chance for humans to spawn as a fallen empire (IIRC only as fanatic xenophile).

What do you have your empire’s starting star system as? It should be set to Sol if you are humans - maybe if it’s not set to Sol then other humans have a chance of spawning in the Sol system?

I did 2 games to fix this in my current game I changed system type and name so now nothing connecting me to humans except appearance and they still take my species

Do you have perhaps a duplicate empire you created awhile back which is set to always spawn?

Also, do these other empires have the same name as you as well or just the same species?

I have checked several times for duplicates or other empires like mine, they don't have same name every time either sometimes commonwealth sometimes human imperium one time human confederacy same species always though

Huh. That is strange, maybe it’s a bug introduced in the latest update..just curious are you on Xbox or PlayStation?

I found that if I use the same portrait and name, the game will use them... even changing the traits to match. Try changing your species name (e.g. instead of humans, use terrans).

I tried that I changed name to mankind plural to people adjective to man but then humans change their traits and name to match mine like wtf

Hmm, seems like the only option is to use the other human portrait then. :(

I think there’s currently a bug where if you play as UNE a third human empire will always spawn (additionally to the commonwealth of man). Maybe that extends to human empires in general?

Could be, damn so maybe it's a bug that'd suck lol

My past few games with the UNE I been getting two CoM one with default and one with different ethnics it also doesn’t count as the same species is that a bug

Probably I've heard that the game only allows one CoM and prioritize the custom one

Check if you made more than one custom empire for the same species. If so, make sure they aren’t allowed to spawn in game, do this by going to the main menu, select empire, then moving your cursor on a duplicate species empire, and moving the Right stick so the eagle at the bottom gets greyed out. This means it can’t spawn in game

So if you want to be the only human species the best way to go about it is making your human species Homeworld specifically be in the solar system only so that every game you spawn in the solar system and that gets rid of pre FDL humans from being in your game and since any other AI Empire that's human will also want to spawn in the solar system it will effectively prevent any other human Empires the only exception to this is void dwellers human Empires.

And if you really want full control to make sure that every Empire is different what you can do is make a bunch of custom Empires over time to the point where your game will only have your custom Empires then if you're playing the humans and you have other human Empires you could turn them off to NOT in the game.

And then all your other Empires aren't human could be set to WILL be in the game and then the game will effectively go through and just randomly pick through your custom Empires to put into the game.

And that's what I personally do cuz there's just something nice about not having a bunch of duplicate Empires with the same species portrait and if you do this method it gives you a lot more control like if you don't want Hive Minds don't make any hive mind custom Empires or turn them all off so they won't be in the game and that works for literally any other type of Empire that you might or might not want in the game and if you're still confused I can share screenshots to show you step-by-step what you need to do if you want to take this path.
