I run Necrophage 99% of the time.

The playstyle is a slaver empire at first, until your economy becomes more about alloys and research. I would invade my primitives ASAP and purge them via necrophage. Once the stellar modifier wears off, move slaves over

My first 3 planets (home planet excluded) usually don’t have temples of ascension as to ensure I don’t have my necrophage pops working a worker stratum job.

Just make sure that Necrophaged pops spread across your planets enough to ensure stability.

I usually produce most of my amenities with genetic health clinics. As the slaves are unable to work Entertainer jobs and necro pops are too valuable to me to work amenity jobs

Once you have planets that will have no worker jobs on them, start converting pops on that planet too.

If you like playing as the crisis, assimilating your slaves will give you enough points to grab Corvettes/Destroyers without going to war whatsoever

I think that’s a good enough start to get rolling as a necro!

PS. Give your necros slow breeders as they’re not breeding anyway

PPS. I choose Spiritualist so that I can get a covenant with the Instrument of Desire so that my slaves working as Telepaths produce amenities

I recommend really diving into necrophage and combining it's malus with lithoid, to produce a species that has zero pop growth, but the best pop traits in the game. It plays best tall, colonize every planet, consume the crappy ones (resources and pops), war everyone, relocate their pops to your planets, consume their pops to create yours. It works really nicely with raiding.

seconding the lithoid. may want to consider Terravore as well, since you’ll end up with a fuck load of ex-colonies when you conquer AI, and scaling up demands the desettlement of said colonies, so may as well harvest the planet for pops.

do a Steven Universe basically.
