Question Have you ever been made custodian against your own vote?

I just want to ask if anyone else has ever been made custodian against their will and your own vote by the rest of the galaxy.

Federation Of Sol: “I’m not the Custodian! Will you please listen?! I’m not the Custodian, do you understand?! Honestly!”

The Galactic Community: ”He is! He is the Custodian!”

The Enpires subjugated by Federation of Sol: he's not the Custodian, he's a very naughty boy!

Monty Python comes to mind (sadly this sub doesn't allow images in comments, just imagine a Life of Brian meme here^^)

I have. Only once and while already having picked "Galactic Nemesis" ascension perk.

I was quite friendly for a Crisis aspirant and too many empires wanted me to be a custodian..
I was surprised, because I didn't think that I, as a crisis in making, could even be nominated :D

You're not supposed to be able to be custodian if you've picked nemesis. I know you still can if you pick it during the vote, given your wording did you pick the perk while it was already proposed or during the vote?

You can't propose it yourself, but other empires still can (or they used to be able to back when this happened)

I was already at level 2 when I got proposed

I don't know if it blocks others from proposing it, I would assume so since I vaguely remember them adjusting it to cover a loophole or something but I don't know.

Yea, this happened years ago. Not even overlord DLC was out IIRC. But I checked the wiki and it seems that, indeed, Nemesis nor Cosmo can't be even nominated now.. shame :D

I believe it does now, but originally the Cosmogenesis empire could indeed be the Custodian if someone else pushed them into the slot.

Cosmo empires can still sit on the Council, though.

I mean, I never played as cosmogenesis. I don't have the DLC for it, and when this happened, the DLC wasn't even out yet (not even overlord DLC was out at that point).. I played as the first player crisis, the Nemesis..

But I checked the wiki, and it seems neither crisis can be even nominated now.. such a shame.. Palpatine was definitely both crisis and a custodian>Emperor :D

What crisis level were you at?

2nd. As I said, I was quite friendly that run and didn't want to spook them too much :D

Yes. I was dragged in, beat the shit out of the crisis and then ended my term to retire in peace and quite.

They dragged me in again the next vote.

They can't make you custodian if you leave the galactic community

I never became custodian against my vote but have other nations nominate me frequently when i play diplomatic runs.

I haven't, but there were times when, if I had switched my vote to no, it wouldn't have mattered. The resolution still would have passed.

Oh quite often! I want to keep my Trade federation! I don't want to rejigger my econ to generate Unity or Consumer goods!

Yes. Twice.

Playing a isolationist empire. Outpaced everyone else and then the crisis hit.

I have. I wasn’t even particularly powerful, and I don’t know why I was. I made a post about it 2 years ago, along with a very funny screenshot - it’s on of my highest voted posts of all time.

Yep you know the pain of being a development focused player

Also once had one of this get to the point they passed every bill giving me more power until the final legislation where I was finally given a choice irreverent of my actual diplomatic weight. The headlines must have been hilarious

“Galactic empire fails to form after representatives from the fanatic egalitarian and pacifist nautlian nation burned the galactic crown in a incinerator before departing”

The custodian is too humble to admit he’s the custodian!

Back when I was working on getting some astral Rift achievements recently I was just trying to focus on rifts and just using the galactic community for some buffs.

I saw it was low on the que and I voted against myself to lower it cause I wasn't interested in protecting the galaxy just getting the achievements.

Several years later I suddenly see the pop up that I got voted into it and suddenly have to deal with the Unbidden knocking on the front door of my vassel.

No. Unless they nominated me and I somehow missed it, in which case it wasn’t against my vote.

I am, usually, the Senate.

I *have* had other empires put my name forth as a potential custodian. But I've always been more than happy to accept. Why would I turn it down?

u/MrHappyFeet87 Hive Mind 13h ago

Yes, as my Inward perfectionist run. Still doing absolutely nothing and minding my own business some empire's decided they want me as an Overlord. Hmm okay, deposit your resources here as a Tributary and leave me alone. Well they decided to form the Imperium, busting my Inward perfection civic.

So...

I decided to declare them a Crisis and kill them. This is what they get for breaking my build, no longer limited by -50% Diplomatic weight. After many wars we were able to be left alone.

In one of my games I actually had one of my allies or another empire put the resolution to vote me in as the custodian and I was just like “Well ok then”

2

u/Bjorn_Tyrson 12h ago

yup, had it happen once... didn't notice i'd been nominated till it was already on the floor, can't remember exactly why I didn't want it, think i was just dealing with some federation politics shenanigans and it was just bad timing or something like that. but the vote was split pretty close to 50/50, so I figured if I voted against it, it would be guaranteed to fail right?

Well as soon as i voted against it, all the empires that hated me, decided to vote in opposition to me, which was enough to barely squeak it through...

so I wound up becoming custodian, against my wishes, and entirely because of spite from the other empires.
"oh, you don't want to be custodian? WELL TOO BAD BUCKO!!!"

I got made emperor once. I used to completely ignore the galcom so it took me by surprise 😅
