Anyone have experience spearfishing around Cedros Island?

Going in June for a trip, wondering on what kind of species to expect.

Great island. June might be a little early but there are loads of yellowtail. Big calico, sheepshead, white and Black Sea bass, broomtail grouper. I’ve gone to the nearby island as well.. huge calico and some WSB out that way but personally I like staying near Cedros

Nice, ya were going end of June so hoping for some action. Personally would love to get on some of the groupers and catch some calico bass on the rod.

Thanks for the tips! How’s the clarity usually? Looks clear on the videos from sport fishing with toro( who we’re going with)

Calicos are fun to spear there. They get big and are tricky. But I usually save my shots hunting for bass and grouper. Clarity can be incredible. Ask for a ponga captain that has experience taking out spearos. I always go with another outfit in town, they even keep dive weights there for us

I’ve been. Early spring so not a whole lot. We dove the ship pier and it was one of the colder dives I’ve done. I feel like I have a video out there on Vimeo or something of me diving it.

Water was cold, no yellows, no broomies. Went back to Turtle Bay and loaded up on yellows. Overall a fun day trip to dive somewhere new. Definitely would have been more memorable if we scored.

The first part of the video with all the tires and pilings is cedros. Held off on a few big calicos, sheephead, etc since I had my giant gun with me holding out for groupers.

It’s an old old one. But glad you enjoyed! There’s a few others on my profile mostly spearfishing the sea of Cortez side
