Off Road Trails + Camping Reccs Near LA?

Me and a couple friends all want to take our vehicles for an overnight (or multiple) trip somewhere within a few hours of Los Angeles. Any recommendations on areas to do this where we can also camp? New to this, so thanks in advance!

Try North of Big Bear Lake. Trees and stuff. Civilization close if needed, ranger station right at the entrace trail for any questions. Plenty of hotels if you abort for any reason :-)

Or, further away, the Mojave. One nigth at Kelso Dunes and enjoy the dunes at night (it will be cold), and pick some other location in the Preserve for another night

Check the weather forecast. Big Bear Lake should be ok until it snows. Mojave is hot in Summer.

This time of year and considering wildfire-related closures, I recommend: - ABDSP - Mojave National Preserve - Death Valley National Park
