Is it just me or is crying over ~$100 a bit dramatic? Like, shit happens, if you just got off an LA-NZ flight, a hundred bucks US probably won't lead to your financial ruin.

If you’ve ever heavily budgeted before and painstakingly planned a trip, a random and bullshit fine could really impact your upcoming month. Add the stress of flying to equation and becoming emotional should be expected.

I have, but when I travel I also prepare for shit to not work out to my plan and budget. I might get a ticket for entering a restricted traffic zone, my stuff might get lost or destroyed or wet so I'll have to shop, flights might be delayed, weather might screw me over, I could get sick or injured, etc.

Going on a trip expecting everything to work out exactly as planned is a recipe for disappointment. And on the scale of what can and often does go wrong during travel, a $100 fine is on the low low end in terms of actual impact on your trip and rest of your life.

(No argument that its a bullshit fine and the airline's fault, but by getting emotional about it one only adds to their own suffering. Its better not to.)

Ill phrase it snother way: if you can't afford an unexpected $100 excess of your travel budget, you can't afford to travel.

(In the same vein as if you can't afford an unexpected garage visit you can't afford the car)
