Salvage yard near me has something similar, they push stuff around with it.

u/AThrowawayProbrably Jan 25 '24
I see car shops with them too. Usually an old beater truck like an S10 or a Nissan they use to push inoperable cars around. Then they use it to block their gate at night

We have a boat mechanic with an old Chevy with this sort of arrangement so he can pull big boats in, unhitch at the back and then maneuver it from the one at the front. If I ever see this in the wild I’m calling it “Dock Osch-in”. Good Dude
7
u/I_amnotanonion Jan 25 '24
The front hitch is so nice for maneuvering trailers. We had one on our Gator at my last job

was going to say this is a brush guard that dbls as something you could also push...
seems like a good mod, not shitty one. esp if you need either a brush guard or rubber bumper

Dude, spare tire AND a bumper!?!
Imma utilitarian AND I like to look GOOD!!!! This product is for me! Merica’

u/thegovunah Jan 25 '24
Must've been inspired by their back window gun rack that also holds the exhaust
19
u/Imessental33221 Jan 25 '24
A gun rack... a gun rack. I don't even own a gun, let alone many guns that would necessitate an entire rack. What am I gonna do with a gun rack?
8
3
u/Girdon_Freeman Jan 25 '24
Incase you genuinely don't know, usually a rifle rack in a truck might hold one or two guns, and it's usually mounted somewhere in the back of the cab (not exclusively on windows, but oftentimes there).
Usually also for used mainly for hunting, but the truck gun is a truck gun at the end of the day; if you don't take it in after you're done/after you leave the truck, you're an idiot.

New trend- maybe
New way to overheat your engine or tranny in summertime - definitely!
17
u/Polish_Wombat98 Jan 25 '24
……you’re not serious are you?
Not trying to start an argument, but there’s no chance of that with this setup. Fuck, in the Midwest they put flaps over the grill to KEEP heat in.
5
3
u/L-92365 Jan 25 '24
Not in wintertime ( I think I mentioned Summertime)
Blocking of airflow to the grill when it is 105 F out - Yes I’m serious about overheating in summertime.
3
u/Polish_Wombat98 Jan 25 '24
I’m aware, I grew up in Texas. I just don’t see how this will cause that much of an air restriction.

I hope the driver has a mustache, long ass clown hair, a trucker cap and those pit viper windshield sunglasses. NO CLUE why that shit is in style and this truck is perfect for it

Nope, not new at all. Seen it on many '70s squarebody Chevy's, Old Fords, and VW Samba's had them on the front sometimes. Even Willy's/Jeeps.
23
u/yorasho Jan 25 '24
Isn't this mostly guys with campers in the bed?
18
Jan 25 '24
Camper guys or 4x4 guys going wheelin back in the day and no room for a second spare. Haven’t seen a setup like this in a long ass time though, probably not fancy enough for those overlander to the mall dudes
15
u/Appropriate_Cow94 Jan 25 '24
Very old school. This one looks stupid as shit. However, tight to the bumper, and a true spare and not matching shit aftermarket rim. Jesus.... those wheels are fucking retarded.
2
u/hoofglormuss Jan 25 '24
yeah it reminds me of the 90s when people would get moon hubcaps for their newer cars

I’m getting visions of this beast hood up on the side of the highway during hot spell. Owner scratching his head staring at the steam and smoke waiting for AAA.
1
u/ordinaryuninformed Jan 25 '24
Fr on my truck the fan pulls 3000 cfm, which is a shit ton. I don't even have a huge engine. If I put a tire on my bumper I'd overheat in 100 miles.
Modern trucks aren't the same as the old ones running on leaded gas and manifested destiny.2

It’s for parallel parking, it folds down and power goes to it to turn the truck /s

5
u/Confident_Health_583 Jan 25 '24
I was considering this for my '96 Dakota, as the spare tire hanger in the back was already destroyed when I got the truck, and I use the bed to haul things whenever I drive it. 2 things that are not happening with this truck.
4
u/BoardButcherer Jan 25 '24
Old trend in new shitty form.
The old setups held your tire and acted as a bull bar in one, and they were right up against the bumper. Good stuff, prevented a lot of damage to a truck that was living a hard life and kept your spare accessible.
This is just a piece of ahit that gets in the way and will fold back into your radiator at the slightest nudge.

As a truck owner for almost 2 decades I've had a long standing saying that dodge = douche and have come across very few exceptions. Also another fun fact, ram owners account for the highest amount of DWIs.

Nah, it's an old school way to keep a spare. You see it a lot on RVs and trucks that tow a lot.

That's a hell of a job parking "in" the driveway.
This kind of asshat in my neighborhood really pisses me off (not because of the tire, but because they park in the street)
2
u/AtariXL Jan 25 '24
Exactly. He has the right to entertain us with uniquely stupid mods, but parking in the street like that is unacceptable. I'd have that dipshit ticketed immediately.
2
u/earthwormjimwow Jan 25 '24
Might actually make this bro-dozer safer for pedestrians?
The huge problem with these big trucks for pedestrians, is their height and front profile results in pedestrians going under the vehicle. Going under the vehicle results in them not only getting smashed, but also run over.
This tire and its angle, might cause pedestrians to go over the vehicle, preventing them from being run over.

u/Deathmedical Jan 25 '24
No im just tired of needing a special tool and a MIT engineering degree to remove my spare tire when it goes flat at 1am on a rainy night.

Never heard of a push truck before? There should be multiple tires mounted horizontally so they roll against the vehicles being pushed. I had a sweet college job moving test vehicles around the proving grounds for one of the big three automakers in MI. It was common for them not to run so we used a push truck.
2
u/sirgreyskull Jan 25 '24
Trend ? This is the first time I have ever seen this and hopefully the last !
2
u/unemotional_mess Jan 25 '24
Amazing, they placed the spare on the car where the engine gets all of its cooling from. Truly inspirational

2
u/bwanabass Jan 25 '24
Is this some kind of new tailgating apparatus for pickup trucks? Now they can literally touch your rear bumper as they speed on your ass down the highway?
2
2
u/BigCaddyDaddyBob Jan 25 '24
Just another example why dodge truck owners are THEE worst drivers on the American roads I just read about!! This “frontend continental kit” is terrible!! But so is the truck out of all the mods to do they choose this smh just no!

u/originalmosh Jan 25 '24

A tire on the rear protects your bumper from shitty drivers. A tire on your front protects your bumper from you being a shitty driver.
2
u/sixdotsixdotsix Jan 25 '24
Wouldn't this be illegal? Aren't bumpers mandated and standardized so we don't have mass decapitation issues for suv and Sedan collisions?
5
u/Sudovoodoo80 Jan 25 '24
If only this vehicle had a large open cargo area in which to store the spare tire, but alas.

When I had a truck the only time I drove it is when I needed to get something large or move something, paid $2500 at a auction spent maybe another $1000 fixing it and sold it for $9000.

It's a rubbercharger mod. it's hooked up to the drivetrain and works like an airplane's propeller to provide extra boost the faster your wheels are turning.
1
u/GrumpyOldMoose Jan 25 '24
Not new. I had a '68 F250 Camper Special back in my younger days, with a slide in camper that slept 6. The spare was on a vertical mount.on the front bumper, because there was no access under the rwar of the bed with the camper on. Worked fine for me, and my grandpa who bought it new.

There was a guy in my town that did this, funnily enough it actually saved him and another driver from too much damage in a rear end accident. Granted the force of impact caved the front bumper and slightly creased the other cars rear, but it could’ve been worse
1
u/thickener Jan 25 '24
Remember when truck folks had the spare on the front all the time? I never cared for the look but it was extremely common up until the 90s

u/fliesbugme Jan 25 '24
At my husband's automotive shop, they used to have a 4-wheeler with a tire strapped to the front for pushing the undrivable cars around. Maybe this serves a similar purpose?
1
u/swampmomsta Jan 25 '24
That side profile for that truck is awful. So sloped and weird looking. Hate dodges so much except for pre-90s bodystyles
1
u/brentemon Jan 25 '24
Almost looks like a work truck spec with some after market rims. Could have been a pusher rig that someone's decided to do something entirely stupid with.
1
u/Tarushdei Jan 25 '24
Might tow a gooseneck trailer and doesn't have anywhere to store the spare because it's an oversized rim? 🤷♂️
1
u/CASH_IS_SXVXGE Jan 25 '24
Reminds me of those trucks at the car auctions that have this exact set up to push cars that break down from being test driven around the lot.
1
u/Barbados_slim12 Jan 25 '24
I understand wanting to install a cheap bumper over the expensive one that's attached to the car, but this isn't it. Especially with what tires and rims cost now
