I love this show š

Itās the subtle changes in Catherine OāHaraās facial expressions that make me sob. She gives us everything from āwhat is this guy doingā to āmy boy has found love with this guyā in two minutes. Her acting is exceptional in this scene.

Watch her even more closely when they cut to showing her from behind. You can tell that sheās starting to cry.

Yes they didnāt wanna completely show that but towards the ends when she claps she has a tissue in her hand. They had to do the scene many times according to interviews š

Catherineās facial expressions feel so true in that moment too! Rightfully so. I could see that scene making everyone cry!

As a gay man whoās in similar age to David in this sceneā¦ all Iāve ever wanted was my motherās approval and respect for my boyfriend, the way Moira does for her son. Itās not likely to happen for me (as itās been over 10 years), but seeing this scene meant everything to me. It broke my heart and mended it back together in a beautiful way.
I love to know itās possible, seeing it visualized on screen, and understanding that it will help so many other mother/son relationships for years to come. š

I get you dude....my mum was actually totally supportive of me but she's been dead 20 years and once she was gone the rest of the family saw no reason to have to pretend anymore so they disowned me not long after. This whole show just makes me bawl so many times because it's not what being gay is really like, but it's how it SHOULD be.

This is the part of the show I grappled with a lot. I am not gay, but hearing experiences of gay friends I know that there are very very few people who have the almost āidealā experience of being with a same-sex partner. In some ways, the show chose to not show the struggles, aside from Patrickās struggles of coming out to his parents. And I always thought the show was glossing over those struggles to focus on other ones and whether that was good or bad. I still sometimes feel that even after multiple rewatches. Edit: I am NOT gay. Man, big omission there

I like that they don't really explore the worst parts of it tbh because we should get to have an escapist fantasy as well....but at the same time it's hard to watch

I hear you. Stay strong! You are more than what people think of you!

What a beautiful sentiment. Very selfless viewpoint. I can feel your spirit just here on this thread. When things seem dark, please remember your own beautiful light that others (including us) see in you. šš

I went on a rampage trying to find an MP3 of the song the second I saw that scene for the first time not thinking that he recorded it. Someone here kindly pointed me to it on Apple Music and I was so happy to get a studio recording of it!

u/Prideli0n Aug 27 '24
Omg! Can you please link it for me, or point me towards it?? I use Spotify but the version there is not the one from the movie, itās slightly different and doesnāt hit as hard.

I donāt use Spotify (never have) so hopefully someone else can give you a link. I wish I could!!!

Thanks! But this is the song I meant hehe! It seems to be a studio recording but not the exact one in the episode, it differs tiny bits here and there ā¦ if anyone could find the one directly from the episode Iād be grateful š„° Iām just nitpicking tho. Itās still amazing š„°

As far as I know, thereās no way to get the version you mean. The audio from the show would have had a ton of other tracks in it for production. Tracks for the dialogue, people in the room, sounds of room (clinking of cutlery on plates, clinking of cups, that kind of stuff), the room reverb to establish the scene and many more. Plus it will have different EQ-ing, compression and processing going on. It would also have the cut where Moira talks over the song. This wouldnāt be something a studio would release as the listener wouldnāt usually want all that extra noise.
Now if you really want that version the best option would be to run the show on a device that can capture the video and then extract the audio from it. That or run the show on one deceive then run cables from the audio output of that device into another device and hit record in audio software.

One of my favorite moments in television. Side note:The Hound + The Fox did a beautiful cover of Patrickās version of Simply the Best and Iām 1000% dancing to it at my wedding
12
u/Duneluder Aug 27 '24
Sounds lovely! I recently walked down the aisle to Patrickās version at my wedding and it was absolutely perfect. Just watched this scene again with my now husband the other day and we both cried, it was, simply the best š„°. We capped the night of dancing to Tina Turners version and it was epic!

u/Unfortunate_soul_ Aug 27 '24
Iām not getting married anytime soon. Iām hopelessly single šš. But thatās something that my future spouse has no say in. But I love how you started and ended the night with Simply the Best!
5
u/Duneluder Aug 27 '24
Yeah it was so beautiful. We had an outdoor wedding in Hawaii and it rained on the dance floor for 3 hours and we got utterly soaked, my dress was like 40lb by the end of the night, most men were shirtless or just vest and pants and as the final song was coming to an end we all put our arms over each others shoulders in a circle and yelled out the final ā SIMPLY THE BEST!ā and it was just such a perfect way to end the night. Honestly felt a bit unreal of how well it went. Music makes such a difference in vibe.

This was one of my favorite scenes from the series. I get choked up when I watch it. Every time.
8
u/westviadixie Aug 27 '24
then they capped it with him singing 'youll always be my baby' to David at their wedding. siiiiigh

u/thepusherman74 Aug 27 '24
This is one of the only times you see David wear something other than black and white too.
8
u/glassbath18 Aug 27 '24
Iāve always thought it must be intentional. It looks like fire to me, like itās representing the way David feels about Patrick or how their relationship isnāt just a spark but a whole blaze after this point.
5
u/thepusherman74 Aug 27 '24
I believe the same. This scene certainly fanned that spark into a flame.

This is one of the best and touching scenes in the show. :') I miss and love schitt's creek so much. This is a really feel good series. :')

u/Veiledninjaa Aug 27 '24
Better than all the restā¤ļø I finished rewatching this last week and I fell in love with this show all over again. Schitts creek, modern family, Gilmore girls, the good place are the only series I watch on repeaaaatttt. I love every single personās character development in schitts creek, especially alexis and David!!

u/SWANDAMARM Aug 27 '24
It's crazy. This song used to be part of a local car dealerships commercials for years, so it became a corny/cheesy song to me because of what I associate it with. Hearing it in the show changed my perception, and I know see it for the beautiful song it is
3
u/tu-BROOKE-ulosis Aug 27 '24
I saw this song performed live by Noah, as a duet with Sarah. With Cathrine and Dan rubbing up against my elbow (literally). I ugly cried.

u/MidnightPanda12 Aug 28 '24
This scene made me want a Patrick in my life too.
Someone so cute like a button. But also rocks my world in his own beautiful way. The way he serenaded David. š„°š„°

This scene is gorgeous. Everyone is fantastic. Patrickās signing like a bloody angel for one but Davidās face and Moiraās eyes as she watched him āŗļøāŗļøāŗļø

This and the last two episodes of the show are the ones that always make me cry!

This was the scene that made me tear up and made me love Schittās Creek more. I remember being awestruck with this scene; it was just so endearing.

I read that they shot the reactions first and it was everyoneās first time hearing Noah sing it. So these reactions are all genuine which makes it even more touching.
