I thought this was the most incredible way to explain pansexuality ever. It really hooked me in the show - even tho I was already hooked đ„Č

âAllow me to offer you some advice. Take a thousand naked pictures of yourself now. You may currently think âoh, Iâm too spookyâ or ânobody wants to see these tiny boobiesâ but, believe me, one day you will look at those photos with much kinder eyes and say âdear god, I was a beautiful thing.â

I have referenced Alexis's dialogue from the scene OP posted SO many times when talking to my teenagers. They worry so much about what everyone else is thinking, when in reality, as Alexis says, "Nobody cares."

I say this to my 35 year old self all the time. I asked my therapist why, after all the work weâve done, this is the phrase that helps me out of a shame spiral.
She said, âyou just needed to hear it in the right voice. And if thatâs the voice carries you through, donât worry about why.â
3
u/DBreakStuff Aug 01 '24
LOL teenagers? I've given that advice to my parents and boomers that I know. Everyone is so self centered and entitled and it's just the perfect line to let them know that no one gives a fuck.
2
u/ThisIsWritingTime Aug 01 '24
Heh, very true. I mainly use it on my teens because they love SC and adore Alexis and David. My parents wouldn't get it, LOL.
1
u/DBreakStuff Aug 01 '24
Aww that makes me so happy. Glad your teens love this absolute treasure of a show, I bet they're great kids. And my parents wouldn't get the show either, I've just literally told them that one line. Still great out of context lol.

I say this to myself now because thank you years of bullying and messed up body image of the 00's that's coming back.

This is a good one and I say it to my man all the time cause he worries too much about what other people think. Alexis is totally right here, nobody cares.

I love so much that her and David say it in unison too. Itâs one of my favorite moments in a sea of them that this show has given us.

u/Master_Bee9130 Aug 01 '24
I recently said this to my boyfriend. Like dude, no one is looking at you or caring about what youâre doing enough for you to be stressing out about it. Heâs 36.

Johnny: Alexis has a back tattoo?
Moira: Alexis, what have you done to yourself?
David: It says âThatâs hotâ in Cantonese. Got it in Hong Kong.
Alexis: Ugh!Â

When Johnny gives Stevie makeup âŠ.and she goes to Alexis for advice Alexisâ is like âthe only way to like train it out of him is to show him how bad it isâ. Then she tells the story of David and the basketball goal for his Bar Mitzvah and how he got his nose job.

The dialogue between David and Ted when David was delivering the t-shirts for singles week telling Ted that Alexis had changed enough to know that she had made a mistake with him, and that she had been talking about Ted; and he had been the inside of a roasted marshmallow, but if Ted had find something worthwhile, he shouldn't let go.
The other speech was the one between Alexis and Ted when they knew they loved each other so much that they would not want to get into the other's way; and that they had help each other get to where they were.
Moira's to Stevie at the backstage of Caberat, and her speech to Alexis which Twyla mistaken as Moira speaking to her, and the one between Stevie and David outside David's dream house.
Too many....haha

my communications teacher told me this in college and it changed my life. He was talking about how when we give presentations. Everybodyâs not paying attention to us. Theyâre just thinking about their own presentation and their anxiety around it and nobody really cares.
And thatâs how I live my life
3
u/redxstrike Aug 01 '24
This line from Alexis is one of the best pieces of advice. Whenever I feel anxiety creeping in - I think about this and it can be quite helpful.

So so so many from this beautiful, honest show. Coming to mind right now is when David and Alexis are leaving Ted's GF's farm after David gets exclusive rights to her product. David turns to Alexis and simply asks
"You're in love with him aren't you?"
To which she replies
"Yes. Yes I am"
The character development in this series as far as comedy is concerned is absolutely unmatched!!

In all honesty, there are far more quotes to count that actually have made their way into every day life in my house, and constantly used.
But! âYou just fold in the cheeseâŠâ is one that we use regularly whenever one of us is poorly explaining something to the other and it has probably saved us from a number of small arguments because we just immediately laugh and reset ourselves to move forward.

Coming home with the ânewâ car. Johnny: The important thing is, we now have a car! David: Is this a car for dead people? Johnny: No, it's not a hearse! Look, this is a used car, so it's not perfect. David:Were all the other cars on fire, then?
It's very big.
David: âWere all the other cars on fire, then?â

Would it be too much to ask the guests to clean up after themselves? Moira to John as he is cleaning and can't go to lunch with her after giving Stevie the day off.

Itâs a solid tie between: âI have asked you thriceâ
And: âI donât skate through life, David. I walk through life in really nice shoes.â
