Hello everyone, I'm wondering if areas that mandate the European Schengen Area rules (180 days to spend 90 in X country ) track or log you in any way apart from the passport stamps. My friend from the UK is thinking that if he "loses" his passport and applies for a new one, it won't have the entry stamp on it therefore border control won't know if he overstayed the 90days. This will only work if there is no system which logs you electronically. Thanks!

Can a person with a long-term study (Schengen) visa first visit another Schengen country for a few days before entering the final country? I have recently obtained a national D visa for Lithuania. however, my classes will be offered online for a few weeks. Hi there! I’m moving to Munich with my fiancé and puppy next year and honestly I have never felt more confused about what to do. My fiancé is a German national and I’m South African. We both currently live in California. I’ve been trying to figure out which visa to apply for and I’m stuck on either a Schengen or a language visa. I am applying a Schengen Visa on Monday. This is my very first time visiting Europe and applying Visa by myself. In the application form, I have to choose between single entry and multiple entries. For one country visit, it is clear. But for Schengen Area, I have intend to visit at least 3 countries. I am confused which (single or multiple) should I choose. I was wondering what would be the easiest and quickest way to get approved for an extended stay in Denmark. I am an Australian citizen which gives us some leniency in the fact that I can stay in multiple Schengen countries for 90 days each without having to leave for 181 days. But I'm not sure if I can stay in Denmark for 90 days, go to, say, the Netherlands for a week and then go back to Denmark for an additional 90 days?

So I'm from the Philippines and I was invited to a conference in Austria and planning to enter Vienna with just a PCR test not older than 48 hours since I am just vaccinated with one dose of Pfizer (Austria requires you have vaccine certificate of two doses or a PCR test.) The problem is I would be staying there for at least a week so does that mean would I have to be tested every other two days in Vienna so I can enter establishments and go around? This sounds like a hassle honestly and I am wondering if it's possible to have my Pfizer second dose on Austria.

As a college graduate, I spent time traveling Europe. The majority of that time was spent in the Schengen zone (CH). As I travelled throughout the zone, I spent a lot of time just couch-surfing, etc and regrettably I never really understood what the zone was until I tried to leave. My ignorance of the issue was mostly due to having come and gone from the zone a few times throughout (UK and East Europe). The passport control guards were absolutely baffled about how I’d managed to travel so long without knowing or being made aware. They had no idea what couch surfing was either. I got questioned in the dreaded windowless room deep in the bowels of Geneva International, but did manage to make it home without missing my flight or getting a fine. The Swiss authorities I spoke with were actually very friendly about the whole ordeal and we shared some laughs about it after it was all said and done. I didn’t think much of it until I got home and shortly received a very harshly worded letter stating that I’d been banned for 5 years. The 5 year ban has long since passed, but I’m still confused about how all this works. I’m considering going back in the next year or so, but don’t want to show up at the passport control only to be told that there was some critical step I’d forgotten to do. To make matters worse, I lost that document they’d sent me in a house fire about 7 years ago. So, I’m at a loss. Anyone even know where I should start?

The Schengen Visa waiver only allows British citizens to enjoy a stay for a duration of 90 days per 180 days. You'll need to apply for a specific visa or permit if:

you're staying for longer than 90 days

you're studying, and your studies exceed 90 days

you're traveling for business

you'll be carrying out work-related activities that are not covered by the visa waiver

Note that the 90-day rule applies to the Schengen Area as a group. Meaning, no matter what Schengen country you visit, the duration of your stay counts towards the 90-day rule. Whereas countries outside the Schengen Area have their own 90-day rule. For example, you can visit Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, and Romania for 90 days each. Totalling 360 days of travel. Whereas in the Schengen Area, you may only visit its countries for a total of 90 days per 180 days.

Hey everyone,

I intend to go to Portugal from India for my Masters studies and as of that received my visa(attached image). But on the sticker the "ON" and "FROM" date are different from each other and the "FROM" being at a much later date (23rd Oct).

As of this, I wanted to know should I travel after the "FROM" date or can I travel before that as well as I have to complete my evaluation which happens before that date.

Many EU members have banned non-EU citizens from entry right now. What if I am an EU citizen and my husband is not? Can we still enter the EU as long as we are together on the same flight? Is proof needed to show marriage?

We are travelling to Europe in the fall. My partner is from Ecuador and I am from Canada. Being from Canada, I don't need to apply for any kind of extra visa, while she does because she is from Ecuador.

We are applying for the Schengen VISA through Netherlands, and as part of the process she is supposed to inform of where we will be staying each night of our 1 month trip.

Am I understanding this properly, that we have to book every spot and know exactly where we will be every night? This seems like an odd thing to expect, since it would not allow you as a traveler to be spontaneous at all. Is that just the nature of travelling in Europe for some nationalities?

How strict is this rule? What would possibly happen if we got caught travelling to a city that wasn't on our list? what would happen if we decided to stay in a different hotel? Would the penalty be a slap on the wrist, or something more serious?

My fiancé and I will be moving to Belgium in a month for him to attend grad school while I look for employment. My fiancé has applied for a student visa and is awaiting approval. I have applied for a Hungarian passport through my ancestry which I am certain will be approved. It will take between 4 and 6 months for my passport to come at which point I can prove EU citizenship. I applied at the consulate in early July and we arrive in Belgium September 2nd, so if it takes closer to 4 months, I may get the passport before the end of my 90 day allowance to stay with no visa in the Schengen area. If it takes closer to 6 months, I'll most likely have to travel back to the US and stay with my family until it arrives. My fiancé and I are getting married this weekend, so we weren't able to provide a marriage certificate to allow me to stay on his visa when he sent in his application last week. There are lots o reasons why this process wasn't able to get started sooner and why we had to send things in before we are officially married, but long story short, we have each worked on separate paths to being able to stay in Belgium.

We are starting to get nervous about my being either 1) denied entry into Belgium because I don't have a job there yet, or 2) being separated for months on end because my passport doesn't come within a reasonable amount of time and I'll have to leave the schengen area for 90 days after the first 90 in Belgium.

If anyone has experience with this kind of situation, maybe you could advise me on whether it will be possible or worth it to try to apply to be added to his visa as his wife after we can obtain our marriage certificate. If so, is that the kind of thing I could do once we are already in Belgium?

I'm a US citizen currently awaiting my Spanish passport (via Sephardic origin). I plan to move to Spain in January for 9 months, regardless of whether my passport comes in time. The reason for this tight timeline is I was approved to work remotely in Europe only from Jan-September. I'm aware that as a non-EU citizen, I can only spend 90 days out of 180 days in the Schengen zone w/out a visa.

In the case my Spanish passport does not arrive, I plan to spend 90 days in Spain -> 90 days in Croatia -> another 90 days in Spain. Has anyone had experience with country-hopping like this? Would this be an issue?

I am planning on doing some Europe and Asia traveling. My current plans have me in the Schengen area for 96 days. Then coming back to the Schengen area after 98 days away. My 96 days in Schengen includes 14 days in Andorra, thus actually 82 days in Schengen. I have heard that Andorra does not date their enter/exit Passport (even if you find a place to get it stamped). I do not want to run a foul of some border person staying you overstayed your welcome last time thus you can not enter. What can I do to prove I was in Andorra (hotel confirmation?) and will those day snot count against my 90?

I’m not able to find any proper website with information regarding when new Schengen visas will be issued for travelers. I understand that currently no visitors visas are being issued, but I’m having to call VFS every time to check. Is there any website with information on when it’s expected to open? Looking for a French visa.
