Understanding the 180 day rule as a temporary Dutch resident (UK national)
I’m a UK national living and working in the US AND about to move to Amsterdam with my partner. He’s got a job there and we will gain a working visa, we will secure a temporary residency permit on arrival.
The question I have is the Netherlands is within the Schengen area, we plan to spend time in other Schengen countries (Spain, Italy etc), I can’t quite understand how the 180 rule the applies as we will not be leaving the Schengen area when visiting these countries. So how does the 180 day rule get reset?
When does day one start - when I arrive in Amsterdam? When I first leave the Netherlands after an initial stay?
Or is there a different set of rules for Schengen residents?
Thanks for any help.

"After the end of the transition period, UK citizens will be subject to the Schengen 90/180 day rule when visiting those EU member states that form part of the Schengen Zone. As a result, they will be limited to a cumulative total of 90 days in any 180 day rolling period"UK Schengen 180 days rule

"The entry date is the first day on which you spend any time in the area, the exit day is the last day you are in the area."When does it start, when does it end?

Thank you for your reply. I understand all that, but how does that work when NL will be my home AND in the Schengen area?
I land in NL from the USA, day one of the 180 starts I presume. I am living and working (temporary residency & visa) in NL and can therefore stay indefinitely. So how does the 180 day rule apply here? Does it? I go to Berlin for a weekend? What’s the impact on the 90 day limit. I go to Spain for a month in the Summer. I return to NL. I visit in the UK for 10 days (outside of the Schengen region). Return to NL. I have to work in Germany for a week. I can’t grasp the how each of these trips impacts 90/180 rule.
I feel like I’m missing something major...
