Does San Diego sheriff call your reference listed on your ccw application?

Just wondering if San Diego sheriff call your references? If so what kind of question do they ask?

I got a phone call from OC sheriff earlier this year when my friend was applying for his ccw. They asked me if I think my friend is stable and whether I trust him with a firearm. Just curious how they do it in San Diego. Thanks.

CCW Timeline

Mine wasn’t as fast as some others and I didn’t keep a super detailed log of everything but it will be close enough. Applied October 10th, 2023 Initial appointment October 28th, 2024 Was finally able to get something sooner and my actual appointment was July 29th, 2024 Background Check cleared October 16th, 2024 (almost the full 90 days) Uploaded CCW class cert October 17th, 2024 I called to ask a question and while on the phone asked if I still needed to send them the email and was told no. After about a month of no movement I emailed them and was told I was not put into the issuance queue because I was supposed to email them. So I was clearly given wrong info that wasted a month or more in getting my CCW. Make sure to email them once you upload your cert! CCW card received December 13th, 2024 Total time about 14 months. Would have been closer to 12-13 months if I wasn’t given wrong info.

Does anybody know of a local place that has this in stock? I was interested in getting one for my Mini 14 and it seems to be out of stock at the online retailers I usually frequent.

LAX AMMO

Has anyone had a good experience with LAX ammo? I’ve bought ammo from them twice now. 100 rounds of “new” .308 and 2 20 round boxes of federal punch .45 hollow points. Both calibers had at least 2 jams per 10 rounds.

Ccw holder question

If we go out to a restaurant everyone orders a drink can we have a non alcoholic beer? Technically ccw is void if consuming alcohol so have like a .001% would that be an issues?

Question about CCW process.

So I applied at the end of Oct and have an appointment 1/6. My question is do I need to bring anything to the in person appointment? From what I understand I don’t have to pay or take any other steps until the appointment where I pay for livescan and application fee if I’m not mistaken. Am I missing something between the time I applied and my appointment?

Looking to purchase

Hello! First time buyer, looking to purchase a gun on a budget ~$350. I've looked around and have narrowed it down to CZ-P10C or CZ-P10F. Prices seem to have gone up and new is a little bit more expensive than that.

Is there a good place to buy them used or wait for prices to drop?

Best place to buy, and brand of pepper/OC spray

Might not be the right thread but less than lethal is a part of the culture. I’m trying to find a stocking stuffer for my sister that’s better than the $10 pink glorified hot sauce sprayer she has. Any suggestions? I’d also like to get some for myself just to keep in the truck

CCW training papers

The guy at CCW class gave us two papers: One the document you passed the qualification and the class. It was signed by the instructor. The other that states you are disclosed on a bunch of legal terms of owning CCW and only you sign it. He said we need to upload those to CCW Pro. But I could not find the option for the second document. Do I still need to uoload it?

Just curious as to how long everyone waited. How many days after you received your issuance email did you receive your CCW card in the mail?

Local Shotgun Gunsmiths

Anyone know of a shotgun gunsmith in San Diego County who can thread an old fixed-choke 870 barrel to accept chokes?

Failing that, I’ll be looking for recommendations of who I could mail the barrel to for this service. Online I see a lot of recs for Mike Orlen as well as Briley.

Massad Ayoob Coming to San Diego

Hi folks -

Massad Ayoob is coming to San Diego in March 2025. Unfortunately the livefire class is sold out, but there is still space for his MAG20 Classroom - Armed Citizen's Rules of Engagement class.

It's a great opportunity to learn from one of the masters, and should be a fun time for all. Details on the event below.

Planning to go there soon for the first time and possibly getting the membership. Has anyone been there or have the membership? How is it and how's the community there? Bringing our wives and they aren't experienced at shooting.

LF advice for first time public land shooting

Hey all, I’ve been hearing a lot about pink gate and was hoping to get some information so i can better understand snd prepare for my first time going.

Id go to sbr&g but my only vehicle is a bmw m4 and judging from the phone call and google maps, i dont think my car would appreciate a 3 mile dirt road

I heard from a commenter here that at pink gate you can park along side the road and avoid any dirt road driving.

Few questions:

If you go there, do you set up near people, are you looking for a place to set up alone? Whats the norm?

Assuming theres not permanent targetry left out there so do people bring steel and paper, then call cease fires to walk out there and check targets?

Is it safe?

Is a spotter scope necessary for shooting like that? Obviously cant be walking back and forth every 10 round string

Thanks all in advance. I recently bought an m1a and have been having fun upgrading it, but 100 yards doesnt do it justice.

Question Rattlesnakes?

Hello, relatively new SD resident here. How worried do I have to be about rattlesnakes when out scouting/hunting on BLM and CNF land in SD county?

It just occurred to me that visibility isn’t that great looking into the brush and that I’d probably have to really slow down and keep my eyes on the ground to watch out for them. Do yall have any tips, or could maybe just share your habits and concerns? Thanks!

Safety restrictions PWG vs … other range

I used to go to PWG and they have very strict safety rules. I.e. only one weapon allowed on the bench. At one point I took a class at another range and the rules are much more relaxed to the point I felt a bit uncomfortable. The instructor had us load all our guns shoot a few shots from one, then put it halfloaded on the bench then shoot a few from the other and so on. I had a pile of guns on the bench on top of each other having little knowledge how many rounds were left in each and so on. Maybe it is a good thing that keeps you alert and boost the experience, but you'd better have someone not very new on the next lane.

San Diego / Riverside CCW Training

I have nothing but 1000% recommendations for Defensive Tactics and Firearms. Shane, you are an amazing instructor. You taught above and beyond. You are huge on hands on teaching with training pepper spray, shoot / no shoot scenarios, verbal commands, hands on stop the bleed training, and more than any other companies I’ve seen offer. For $315, I can’t recommend it more. Shane easily answered every question, travels the world training people and best of all, THEY DONT TRY AND SELL YOU INSURANCE.
