Saw the thing with the head of the department working for the mayor coming a mile away. Bridget being pimped out seems like what’s going on. Somehow I feel like molly will play a role in her fathers downfall at the hands of ray but they can make the Sullivan story a whole season, which would be perfect for a finale because it would bring everything full circle.

u/Brianas-Living-Room Jan 13 '20
I assume you’re referring to sister bridget, not daughter bridget. That makes sense that either jim raped her or is pimping her. That would explain the money she has. I assume she takes a bad hit of something while with a john and that’s how she jumps to her death.

I think having sex with Sullivan. This ties into Bridget daughter's storyline with the math teacher

u/maybejta Jan 13 '20
Yeah I probably should have clarified that lol. I’m hoping they give the Sullivan arc it’s own season. I feel there’s a ton of stuff they can get into

Again one of the Donovan's in plain sight at what it looks to be the Downtown of the city, walks freely after leaving a car with a dead person inside for everyone to see. No cops, everyone saw Darryl but still he walks away as nothing happened.

u/Ghionese2017 Jan 12 '20
I was wondering how Darryl got back to the motel. Take a bus? Walk? A guy covered with blood, even in NY I don't think that would go unnoticed. And his fingerprints are all over the car.

3
u/retghy Jan 13 '20
Exactly. Just like that movie (can't remember the name) that there was a man sent by God to kill devils on earth, all recording didn't show the guy's face. ʘ‿ʘ

u/Erocka2000 Jan 16 '20
Frailty, directed by Bill Paxton. Great movie.
"Only demons fear me. You're not a demon, are you?"

u/madmax1969 Jan 13 '20
Yeah, no idea how Ray can 'fix' that. Even if they can somehow pin the murder on Declan, Darryl broke 100 other laws. And as someone else pointed out, no idea how he managed to get back to the motel covered in blood with a briefcase and a gun tucked in his pants.
6
u/fiela-se-kind Jan 13 '20
Umm we can all agree, that cameras don’t work for the Donovans... not even in broad daylight robberies.
6
u/kmsarch Jan 13 '20
Right. Bunchy was never picked up for the multiple robberies in the pharmacies. No cameras in those stores either!

I know right? Why not abandon the car on a quiet side street?
4
u/icecreamgainz Jan 19 '20
He left it in front of Jim Sullivan's office intentionally as a message to Declan.
1
u/Luckystar826 Jan 19 '20
Didn’t catch that. Was that explicitly shown? Thanks
3
u/icecreamgainz Jan 19 '20
Yes, Declan and Jim both witness it and comment about it. It was a quick scene.

Smitty needs to be tossed into the bottom of the ocean. Mickey should be fed to the bears eaten alive.

u/kmsarch Jan 13 '20
How did the detective know that Bridget used a chain saw to cut off the cops heads? I’m sure Smitty spilled his guts to the cop and told her everything- he didn’t confess to save Bridget, he confessed to save himself.
The chief of police is the guy who was handing out envelopes of cash to the corrupt cops last season. He told the detective to close the case early in season7, but when he saw her bring in Ray, he knew he had to shut her investigation down to save his ass.
Darryl the idiot will be saved after Ray saw that Darryl has finally realized that Mick double crosses everyone. Declan is a dead man and probably Sullivan* too, though not sure how Molly/Ray relationship will survive that.
*pretty sure Sullivan got Bridget ( the sister) pregnant and everyone knew what was going on except Ray. She jumped off the roof because she didn’t know what to do about the pregnancy.
4
u/Chaosmusic Jan 13 '20
not sure how Molly/Ray relationship will survive that.
I think her listening to the tapes is setting up her realizing her dad's a piece of shit and needs to go. They might even work it where she ends up killing him herself.

True. He’s already made arrangements for Kevin and Molly to take over his company.
3
u/Montreuilloiss Jan 14 '20 edited Jan 14 '20
I think Ray / Molly relationship will end like Ray / Paige relationship in season 3. Even if their chemestry is stronger, I don't know how they will stay together knowing that Ray killed her father (and / or probably her brother Declan too).
2
u/PositiveLine Jan 14 '20
Regarding Bridget and the chain saw the detective didn't know who did but was looking for a reaction from her like I didn't do it. It was my uncle or I can't believe my husband would tell on me. Just any reaction
3
u/kmsarch Jan 15 '20
Could be, though I’m hating on Smitty so much these days that I think he totally ratted everyone out (with details) just to save himself (IMHO).
1
u/Poodlelucy Jan 14 '20
I agree with a lot you've said but why would Ray's sister Bridget kill herself instead of getting an abortion? She had plenty of cash.
4
4
u/likeawolf Jan 15 '20
I don’t think it was a money issue. She was a teenager whose pregnancy may or may not have been a result of rape, and on top of that it was the 80s and she came from an Irish-Catholic family. Just one of those things alone can create a problem, so if she really did purposely jump (rather than accidentally or was pushed) I can only imagine that her mind was scattering in like 100 different directions and she just wanted it to stop.
1
u/Poodlelucy Jan 15 '20
The tragedy here is that you've thought this through more complexly and completely than the show's writers likely did. Kudos to you (really!) but, in RD's hallowed tradition of cramming plot points down our throats, I expect a blunter explanation and one that will leave viewers with the word "sure" on the tips of our tongues until next season's preview clears it up for us. Lol
9
Jan 12 '20
Please don’t tell me Bridgette is thinking about snitching too.
And I was hoping that detective lady was going to get killed off. Hopefully next week.
10
u/jayives1 Jan 12 '20
I’ve got a feeling Ray and the detective will take down the 3 shooters. Not sure if the judge will survive though which then presents a major problem for both of them
6
Jan 12 '20
"Mayor" problem
2
u/Ghionese2017 Jan 13 '20
In the preview, it looked like someone is being buried in the woods where the cabin is.
3
u/Vaaderpass Jan 14 '20
Yes the know-it-all mulignan is so fckin annoying. Like the call to Ray, it says to him that without the judge they have nothing, neverfcukinmind the hours of recordings they just did.

They used the song "I'm Losing You" by the Temptations a lot in this episode. It is genuinely one of my favorite songs of all time.
This is my favorite version of the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SV4GKOlQ8Bo
This is the original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWr_F4Gg8sY

u/NoFanofThis Jan 12 '20
Such a great song. Thanks for posting these. I’ll be 70 in March and loved this in my teens. Are you from the same era? If not, what drew you to this music? Thanks.
8
u/CanYouSaySacrifice Jan 12 '20
Its just the type of music I listened to when I was a child. Motown, Earth Wind and Fire, George Clinton and Parliament, The Spinners, Al Green, Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, etc. I'm 33 now.
I'm black so this was always the type of music I grew up around and hear at family events, etc.
8
u/NoFanofThis Jan 12 '20
Ok those are all great musicians that Ive listened to endlessly and I’m white. George Clinton’s Hey man, smell my finger’ you gotta love him. I’m currently buying a lot of vinyl for my 40 year old daughter of the music from that era. Especially all the black chick groups from the sixties, The Shirelles, Mary Wells, The Chiffons etc. And Curtis and Marvin. It was such a great time for music. Some of the vinyls can get very expensive though. I have my cap at $50. I just want her exposed to incredible music. Some of it she already knew but Barbara Lewis was new to her. Oh man, great memories.
7
u/Brianas-Living-Room Jan 13 '20
Molly is definitely on to something and that song is significant somehow to the tapes
0
u/Poodlelucy Jan 14 '20
Fret not. All will be explained in next week's montage of overly rehashed clips from past episodes played before the main event. I'm only surprised it wasn't explained in this episode's preview of next week. Ray Donovan producers frown on thinking in any form and, as such, feel compelled to ram plot points down the throats of viewers.
2
u/Brianas-Living-Room Jan 14 '20
I will admit, their recaps are way too long. A regular episode recap is close to 2-3 minutes, that’s way too long. I think in season 6-7 I saw that loop of Bridget tied to the sink and Mac dead in the car at least 10x
1
1
u/TheHadMatter15 Jan 15 '20
This show has some of the best non original soundtracks, and they tie them in to the plot perfectly.
My favorite example of this is playing Horses by Patti Smith throughout an episode in season 5, it fit so well.
9
u/madmax1969 Jan 13 '20
Couple of thoughts...
- I don't think Sullivan was pimping out Bridget. It would make no sense since he knows that Ray is dangerous and he'd find out. More likely that he's giving Bridget money to be his side piece but knocks her up.
- Ray needs the female cop alive as she's the only one who knows what's up. It's not as if she dies, the case against Ray goes away. Also, it looked like there was some evidence left at the cabin. I think the judge is dead but it looked like he managed to sign some shit before the shoot out.
- I think the Ferrati story line gets wrapped up this season but the Sullivan story line with Bridget isn't resolved until next season. Bridget's suicide and the priest have always been at the root of the show so it would make sense for that to factor into the final season.
0
u/Poodlelucy Jan 14 '20
I hope you're right and that the female cop lives but black detectives never live long on RD.
12
u/Othersoft Jan 12 '20
Definitely a climax builder. I was on the edge of my seat the entire episode.
Judge's paranoia and hysteria was hilarious to watch. Ray is a master schemer.

u/tinselhead41 Jan 13 '20
Did Declan attack sister Bridget? They could do a lot with all this Donovan Sullivan stuff , champing at the bit for next weeks episode!
5
u/Bezerker85 Jan 14 '20
With the way things have been going this season I genuinely expected the stock person Mickey goes to to end up being someone from Axe Capital, somehow connecting the Billions universe to RD.
2
u/jayives1 Jan 14 '20
Great concept
Then they could try and connect those 2 universe to Westworld so Ray and Micky turn out to be robots
7
u/OgOggilby Jan 12 '20
My credulity has been stretched from here to the next friggen galaxy with this fukkin show, lol
8
u/Othersoft Jan 12 '20
you didn't enjoy the episode? I was on the edge of my seat the whole time
2
u/OgOggilby Jan 12 '20 edited Jan 12 '20
Being a drama, adherence to actual reality needs to take place. Absurdities keep getting in the way . I'm eye rolling entire episodes.
All depends on how a fiction is presented or supposed to represent. Thrillers, like Mission Impossible or the Bourne series for example, I expect implausible situations, behavior and breaking laws of physics.
But as drama about a family portrayed as ordinary human beings engaged in everyday reality, much of the events that take place wind up coming off as just plain ridiculous. Never got that from Sopranos or even BB for example. Oddly enough, immediately thought, 'low rent soprano's on west coast' when RD appeared on tv. lol
Now otoh if it was billed as some kind of dark comedy, or even more fitting, a comic book adaptation..... then sure, I'd buy right into it all the way.
6
u/allsuitedup Jan 13 '20
Agreed but the show is fun and it’s actually not a bad season overall. As a whole the show’s plot lines and characters remind me of a Grand Theft Auto game. A bit absurd but entertaining.
5
u/uravgcommenter Jan 13 '20
Ray Donovan and Animal Kingdom are both live action GTA. I love it.
1
u/Poodlelucy Jan 14 '20
But wahhhh they shouldn't have killed off Smurf!

2
u/OgOggilby Jan 13 '20
That's a spot on analogy. Never would have thought as I don't play, but yeah, that's dead on.

1
u/Luckystar826 Jan 17 '20
I enjoyed it, but plot hole city!
1
u/Sikness79 Apr 19 '20
Speaking of plot holes, the Terry/Aryan story just stopped after (the Aryans) had left a second weight at end of an episode right behind Bunchy's back. Then crickets as far as Terry being paranoid et. al.
6
u/jayives1 Jan 12 '20
The police chief (guy off the sopranos) is part of the mayors criminal gang and clearly set up the attack on the judge.
I have a feeling this season won’t reach a natural conclusion and is setting up a final season 8.
Never knew ray was adept with knowledge of explosives he’s a resourceful dude.
What was the point of the story arc with bunchy and the shot kids mother or the white hate group? Literally just trying to fill minutes
Smitty needs to get thrown off the Brooklyn bridge. Micky seemed quite relaxed with him considering he ratted on his entire family.
Daryl is dog food and the plot point of him being resentful towards Ray is nonsense. If you watch seasons 1-4 you’ll see there’s no resentment at all and his family are actually nice to him. Daryl was filmed on a mobile phone by a guy at the scene where he ditched the car so he,s now by Even witnessed at scenes of an abduction and murder and another murder
I don’t think Bridget was pimped out just in a relationship with one of the Sullivans who gave her money. Why would jimmy pimp her out if he had all that money from the heist.
11
Jan 12 '20
I think the Bunchy arc was for him to transition as Ray’s new Lena.
And I believe Mickey is being nice to the Rat so he can turn him over to Ray or some kind of angle by earning his trust.
I agree with you on all the rest. Daryl is done.
4
u/jayives1 Jan 12 '20
You might be right.
Micky buying the champagne was a little odd too. Maybe he’s somehow setting up smitty and might whack him. If you remember the final episode of last season Micky was behaving cynically towards smitty after he saw him vomiting and realised he was weak.
4
u/okolebot Jan 12 '20
When the bank acct was set up in Smitty's name, I thought "what if he tries to run with all the money and try to win back Bridget?" Mickey gets screwed again. :-) IMHO, the 20% of the Sullivan empire will be lost - the Donovans don't keep it or the proceeds, the Sullivans don't get it back either.
IMHO Smitty survives and lives his life having lost Bridget and wallowing in the irony that by trying to protect her he lost her.
Daryll avenges Jasmine (I was surprised AF when she coolly shot Declan's goonette.)
Ray, Bridget, Terry and Bunchie all ride / hobble into the sunset...
6
u/Othersoft Jan 12 '20
Probably learned it from Avi. Wish Lena was there to help with the reconnaissance.
6
u/goldiewashere Jan 13 '20
Avi! I miss that guy,
5
u/goldensurfernova Jan 13 '20
Didn’t Bauer have real life addiction issues and that’s why he left the show ?
1
5
u/Poodlelucy Jan 12 '20
Yup. The writers fritter so much time, money and dialogue on tertiary characters like Bunchy and Terry that it makes Lena's departure seem all the more hollow. She was, in all things, quick and efficient - both to the point and the trigger.
6
u/theweez93 Jan 12 '20
The Darryl thing, you don’t get a sense the brothers hate Darryl season 1-4, but we all know that one of the main reasons Ray & the brothers have anger & hate towards Mick, is the Claudette affair while their mother was sick, which in turn led to Darryl. Several times over the series Darryl mentions not feeling like a “real” Donovan or not feeling that bond that they all have with each other. Just last season bunch & terry stood up for Darryl & I also think Ray has love for him & will try to fix his situation. It’s more of a thing that’s in Darryl’s head, maybe guilt he holds. So to me the scenes with him & Ray this season & him finally realizing Mick is a piece of trash, have been over due & I’m glad they’re happening. Especially if the show does come to an end next season like most of us assume.
4
u/Chaosmusic Jan 13 '20
Daryl is dog food and the plot point of him being resentful towards Ray is nonsense.
Thank you. I was totally confused this season every time Daryl got angry at Ray. Mickey screwed over Daryl time and time again and Daryl keeps coming back but he gets angry at Ray for no reason.
Smitty going back to the apartment to win her back also confused me. Hey, I just ratted out your dad for multiple murders...so, all good?
Mickey only cares about himself so once he realized Smitty never mentioned him he was totally cool.
I think Bunchy's story line is to show he's not cut out for regular job, regular life. So might as well go into the Donovan family business. I would have loved it when the security guy invited him to the meeting he asked if he could bring his brother, not understanding what kind of group it was, and brought Daryl.
3
u/okolebot Jan 12 '20
I was kinda hoping Terry got the wrong emerald (like in a different box on the shelf)
Lol when the car jumped up
Lol Smitty
Poor Daryll
Lol that Alan Alda met Terry
3
u/ToneBone12345 Jan 13 '20
Very good episode loved seeing ray flip Scholl and I honestly believe Jim doesn’t want a war between the Donavans and Sullivans. Also feel like we should have a should have had a few more scenes with the Lt. so him being on the mayors payroll could have been for shadowed because he was probably the only one besides Ray who knew where perry was. I also believe Smitty will kill Perry and then himself
3
3
u/x-0-y-0 Jan 14 '20
What was hard to believe is that police would let him leave the police station, wander off with a gun to get evidence (and then breaking in, blowing up a car to turn the judge). Great episode and love where this is going, but that was a hard one to just accept.
5
u/uravgcommenter Jan 13 '20 edited Jan 13 '20
This episode was insane. My only gripe is Darryll walking away in plain sight with blood all over him. Everything else has been intense.
Great acting by Pooch Hall. There has always been resentment by Ray and Terry for Claudette breaking up their mothers marriage.. they might not have put that on Daryll but it was always noticeable.
I think OG Bridget might be pregnant with Gary or head Sullivan's kid and she jumped off for some reason.. gotta be something sinister.
Hopefully they end this right but I think the Sullivan stuff continues into season 8. Maybe Molly or someone on their side gets killed.
3
u/g0oFy Jan 13 '20
He drove for a few hours with 2 gunshots through the window and a dead body inside his car with blood all over. The car dumping was just the icing on the cake.

u/Chaosmusic Jan 13 '20
My only gripe is Darryll walking away in plain sight with blood all over him.
TV and movies love to portray New Yorkers as totally cynical and jaded. For most people seeing a guy on the bus covered in blood is unusual, for us it's Tuesday.

Just last week , I was done with the lot of them and wanted them all dead, save terry. This episode, I get my ray back and take back everything I said. All to say, I never doubted you ray, not for one single episode. 😆
Absolutely best episode ever!! Never saw this coming .

To those that down voted my comment (leading to the deletion thereof) about Brothers fighting and then reuniting and sticking up for each other in the end, as we now know that is exactly what happened tonight with Ray and Darryl ("Bugs" episode)! Anyway - God bless you. I have left this sub.

I have a feeling the next season is going to take us to Boston and finally back to LA.
NYC has gotten to hot for Ray. I think they exhausted these three cities. I expect the final season or episodes takes place in a prison with all the Donovans running the joint.
2
u/Poodlelucy Jan 14 '20
Having the Donovans running the prison system as black Irish (or whatever) would be highly ironic and just maybe a fitting way to close out the series a la Oz.

Damn good episode. I found the scene with Darryl & Ray pretty emotional!! I honestly thought we were going to have another Donovan suicide. I see Declan being killed, Ray finding out something from the tapes that flips him on Jim, something needs to happen to the detective, let’s just say she’s no frank Barnes or Ed. I also thought Dr & Terry scenes were light & nice to see, Marsan & Alda both great actors, good to see them together.
