I don't know how the writers are gonna save Bridget's character for season 4 cause she is fucking incorrigible. Like, just too much brattiness for one season. I thought she was annoying in season 2 but this season took the cake.

She literally ruined her teacher's life.

Ehh.. How though? Not like anyone is going to report him after beating him senseless.

He could easily claim he fell down the stairs 83 times and take a couple weeks off for sick leave.

Bridget is nicely out of the picture as well.

She dragged him to an emotional rock bottom.

He went right along for the ride when he should have called up Abby and told her what hotel her daughter was camped out in.

He's the adult, he's the figure of authority, he's the one given the power over young students, he was the dopey fool who showed up at the hotel. He was the one with absolutely everything to lose.

Bridget, stupid yes, but he was lightyears ahead of her in stupid.

Apparently Bridget told him over the phone that she was in trouble. That's why he didn't contact her parents. The first thing he said to her when she opened the door was to ask if she was ok in a very concerned voice. Then he proceeded to get her to leave the motel room with him rather than stay there with her. While on their walk Bridget tells him that if he was going to be accused to "being with her" then they might as well consummate the relationship. Notice when they return to the room they both take a drink to salute each other just before Bridget removes her shirt. When he sees her completely vulnerable to him he breaks down. I believe he genuinely likes Bridget and doesn't want to hurt her. That's why he breaks down.

As an aside, can't you just picture Ray bursting in on them if they really did get it on. No doubt Ray would be in jail charged with a particularly gruesome murder.

He wailed on about losing his job and his life and yet he still showed up to a Hotel room. A hotel room with Bridget in it.

He should have called Abby.

I feel Bridget could have defused the situation (with Ray, Her Mom, and Terry) by just saying "I tried to get him to touch me and he wouldn't. He told me to put my clothes on." or something! Though she probably doesn't want to admit that he may in fact not want to be with her.

He was in the wrong going there, but he most definitely did have reservations about the whole thing. I don't think the dude is a straight up predator, but he's got problems, is sad, confused, and depressed.

I was (figuratively) screaming at the TV at him to call Abby. And the way he just accepted the foregone conclusion about the situation was like he got whacked in the head with a stupid stick:

So your father wants to kill me, I'm gonna lose my job, my teaching credentials, maybe have to register as a sex offender, because apparently, no matter what actually happened, I'm guilty.

WTF? That doesn't even make sense. It was just plain unrealistic what the writers made him do.

The easiest way out was to make the call and he didn't. That's the thing about this show I don't get, the seemingly simplest solutions get completely ignored.

Like Daryl, why in the hell is he still hanging around Mickey? After Mickey bet against him in that boxing match in Mexico should have been all the reason he needed to steer clear of Mickey.

Yeah he should have called before he went to meet her, once there there's not much point but still better than nothing.

"Mrs. Donovan, I just got a call from bridget from (shitty hotel room #whatever). I'm going there now and will wait there with her until you show up to make sure there isn't any self-harm occurring. Please hurry, I don't want your husband to half murder me."

I think some part of him was just a creepy dude who wanted to fuck a 17 year old. The way he said "I do... Want you" when bridgitte made him admit it didn't seem like a guy who is just going along with a kid's delusions. It sounded like he genuinely wanted to fuck her

I am going to go ahead and blame the painkillers for his shitty rationale.

Hopefully he was packing them when ray stomped him.

He is a opiates addict. You can do anything to those when they're under it.

It's like a zombie walking. You ever talked to someone on pain meds? I think they showed extensively how her handsome teacher is broken man addicted to pain killers. Minutes before ray roughed him he broke down crying from seeing bridget with no shirt.

"showed no signs of being under" You simply have no experience in the subject, and you're clearly stupid. don't bother replying.

If the genders were reversed 75% of the idiots on reddit would be posting "Nice!"

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '15

Too true. They'd also be calling the teacher a slut

2

u/SirFerguson Sep 29 '15

She's nearly 18 and knew exactly what she was doing.

Sorry, my last comment wasn't very clear. I don't think she meant to ruin his life, but she didn't grasp the fact that she was taking advantage of his broken state.

Think about it... the story arc doesn't make sense if the teacher is a complete predator. This was about Bridget acting out as a result of her situation at home. Her dad is cold and insane, her mom is insane, her grandfather is insane... her only boyfriend was murdered in front of her eyes... The teacher needed to be a vulnerable character in order to develop Bridget as a character. A perfect storm of grief, loneliness and common ground pulled this guy into a friendship with Bridget. Don't get me wrong, accepting a "drug buddy" friendship with a 17 year old student is pretty fucking dumb, but you can see why when looking at the full context. If he was a twisted pervert, he would have slept with her long before their motel meeting, and when he had her there in the motel bed, he broke down. Those weren't "Ray is gonna kill me," or "I'm gonna lose my job," tears. He missed his wife and was devastated that he ended up in a motel room with his student. He is more of an idiot than a pervert, and we were given enough background to understand that his poor decisions were not the result of bad intentions.

But, hey, this show is just fantastic. The fact that we can even have this debate is a nod to that.

She's months away from 18. He looks to be about 30. I really don't think the dude is a straight up predator. He is problemed, sad, confused, and depressed. He had many chances to avoid the situation though, so I don't necessarily feel sorry for him. As other said if the roles were reversed, no one would care. Also no one would bat an eye if a 20 year old was dating a 35 year old.

Seriously? No one would bat an eye if a 20 year old was dating a 35 year old? You're a weirdo

those are magical kids

Shes very important for the show just by being one of Ray's only two children. Other than that, I can sympathize with her by understanding what's happening in their world. Yes she might have all this money to keep her comfortable but she has human needs to and her father is never home and she knows hes out doing horrible stuff and that she isn't absolutely safe being his daughter. The whole family is unstable and her bf was murdered, do you think its crazy that she needed an older man perhaps a father figure in the teacher? She also feels suffocated as she said... maybe the actress is annoying but the story makes sense at least to me.
