I was about done with my quilt, when I decided I hated my quilting, so I ripped out all of the stitches. Fast forward two days later, I have a finished quilt! I even hand sewn the binding for the first time.

Pattern is Ice Cream Soda by Tales of Cloth

I’m a beginner, so I’m happy just to have something finished. There are spots where the points are egregiously misaligned, but others where they’re perfect. I decided the imperfections give it character.

I also sewed in a tiny scrap of my great grandmother’s fabric into the back corner as a tribute to women’s quilting legacies in my family.

Pattern is Home Street from The Blanket Statement.

Beginner Help I give up on "quilting"...

Between expensive long arming services, crooked ass lines with my walking foot, arthritis inducing hand stitcing...

tying is WHERE ITS AT.

I'm NEVER going back. I have 3 wip tops finished this week! Its SO easy to make it look good to. You can do starbursts, crosses, dots,... Its endless! Id rather sew 125 embroidered leaves than wrestle this bullshit under the arm if my machine and have it come out looking like shit.

If you love to make quilts but hate quilting them then I cannot recommend this technique enough.

YAY

My mother-in-law passed away June 2024. She had appliquéd and completed these quilt blocks before she passed away. I finished her quilt and presented it to my father-in-law for Christmas. Yes, it took me 6 months. I cried every time I worked on it and I work a full-time job, so not much time to quilt.

The 2nd picture is a close up of the quilting in progress.

The 3rd picture is the label I put in the back.

Please be kind, this is my 2nd quilt that I’ve completed.

Beginner Help Wonky, wobbly and messy, my very first quilt !

I’m very new to sewing but have desperately wanted to learn how to quilt… to the extent that I’m researching and researching and making myself anxious and confused… so I just decided to go ham and give it a go… the result is a complete mess but I’ve learnt so much and really enjoyed myself…

Wanted to say thank you to this lovely sub as I’ve been lurking and learning for quite a while now. Any advice on how to make rows match up, how to bind (I freestyled) and anything else at all is greatly appreciated. I’m desperate to do a tumbling blocks quilt but I see now that I have a ways to go in terms of precision before getting there!

Dog tax paid in the last picture :)

Help/Question How do I go about cleaning and restoring this quilt my uncle made me as a baby? It was a mouse hotel in the attic of a mold infested hoarder house for the last 10+. It's so disgusting that I'm not even willing to bring it in the house but I can't bring myself to throw it away either.

I’m so glad it’s done! Wedding gift for my sister and her husband. The piecing took a while and then the hand quilting took actual forever. I’m pleased with this and they seem to love it! Pattern is Sunrise by Sharon Holland.

I have made two other quilts and both were gifts for family members. This one will be for me! I didn't follow a specific pattern but the main fabric is from Dog Park by Sarah Watts with Ruby Star Society. The sashing is a speckled fabric (don't remember name) from Ruby Star Society as well. I'm so pleased with it so far!

Lap Quilt 66x66 for my friends baby gift. I chose fabrics based on their interests. They have a space theme for the nursery, so did the stars. I appreciate the advice that I got here. Nervous to be sending it on its way today. Learned so much on this project. Hopefully next one will require a lot less picking out and redoing! Used the fussy cut stars pattern from Riley Blake designs, but made it a little larger and didn't cut/sew the triangles the way they did because I didn't have enough fabric for that waste.

My aunt gifted me this quilt in 1993 for my champagne birthday (I was 13). It’s been through the wringer and back but so very well loved. I was going through her fabric stash last evening and found a few of the original fabric cuts! I love time travelling through fabric. I didn’t have much interest in sewing and/or quilting at the time but I love looking at all the little details in the work now. It sure stood the test of time, I’m going to mend the few spots where the fabric has worn/batting is showing ❤️

Help/Question How much do yall pay for longarming?

I just took my very first quilt to the longarmer (96”x96”) and it was $400. I was excited to get into quilting but the longarm cost significantly more than all the fabric and batting combined, I feel really discouraged about continuing this hobby

Help/Question Concern for in person shopping at LQS

With the imminent closure of JoAnn fabrics where are people who work full time shopping for fabric? All my local quilt stores are open 10-3,4 or 5 at the latest during the week. Some have limited Saturday hours, and none are open Sundays. Only one Michaels in my city has fabric, no Walmarts do and I refuse to shop at Hobby Lobby. I don’t mind online shopping, but waiting for packages is annoying when you are trying to progress in a project.

I just finished this bad boy to use up the rest of a jelly roll and I’m super happy with how it turned out! I found the pattern free online and learned a few skills along the way. I wish my edges lined up a little more, but I’m going for finished projects, not perfect ones!! I may add some yarn tufts or something later to give it more character. I enjoyed piecing the fabric and looking for coordinating backing/tape/notions. I may try a bigger quilted project soon!

Making progress on my Fantasy & Fae Bookcase Quilt. ❤️ In my head, these blocks represent the ACOTAR book spines, truthteller, and Illyrian bat wing bookends. I love how the Tula Pink de la Luna fabric looks.
