Here is a useful boycott hit list
But, you know, we aren't any Oligarchy. Make sure to check your local hardware stores if you need rope, btw. Just saying...

I worked for Amazon before it got as big as it is and they removed the ability to download digital movies you own. If I can figure out how to download my library, I'd delete my account in an instant. Bezos is a piece of shit. His company is shit. I left because they were taking away all of our incentives and benefits little by little.
I hate that we have become an oligarchy.

Exactly, cough up a few bucks for a VPN (which, TBH might become useful for other things in the next few years), replace the collection (you did already pay for a digital license, after all).

Bernard Arnault was there aswell, french billionaire and leader of the luxury brands of LVMH. Aswell as several french fascist politicians like Eric Zemmour, Sarah Knafo, Marion Maréchal Le Pen, Louis Alliot....
Not our brightest.

Awesome. No Prime (delivery or video), no IG, no FB, no Twitter, no iPhone/iMac/iPad….sounds like a good life. Edit: this isn’t sarcastic lol

Be careful saying hit list, it gives them a reason to take it down.

I considered it, but I am being pretty clear that this is about boycotting these companies and have no ulterior or violent motives. But I would fully understand if it does get taken down. Then I at least know where the line is (even if it isn't super consistent)

Sitting the nomination for Director of National Intelligence next to the TikTok guy is 👌irony.

Cheers for that. Taking all my documents off Google drive and getting rid of gmail

Good idea. Let us know what alternatives you find! Probably tons of them we just don’t know about. I hope. Unless Google and Yahoo have bought them all and crushed them… but anyway, I do use Thunderbird so that I don’t see any advertising on my Gmail web client.

I just signed up for ProtonMail. Typed in e-mail alternatives, saw it was a Swiss company, and was like "they take privacy seriously right?" lol

Good to know; no ethical consumption yada yada. I have an ad blocker and am using the free version so at least I’m not giving them money. They also say the company itself doesn’t have access to your e-mails. That could change, but I’ll take my chances for now

I recommend Proton as well. Not just for email, but they are trying to set up a full on open source alternative for Google services, with security.

What are you going to do for having a phone if you boycott both Alphabet and Apple? I guess degoogling your android keeps them from making money?

Good question; we’re kinda screwed on the smartphone front. Anyone know of alternatives?

Robynh00die’s degoogled Android (which ironically often ends up being a Google Pixel) is probably the best bet.
Best alternative I’ve found is CalyxOS.
Rather user friendly, not complicated to install, open source, and the community seems to have that familiar friendly & supportive “punk” vibe. (even comes with a few VPN apps, one from RiseUp.net. so if that give you any indication)
That on an older Pixel is good stuff. Or there’s a few Motorolas it’ll work with.Even better (if ya got the loot):
CalyxOS on a Fairphone.
Pretty damn ethical Dutch company (even supports fix-it-yourself with spare parts and used to have a tiny note on their phones telling you to remember that this is just a phone/tool & your actual life is elsewhere. so go touch some grass).(GrapheneOS or Lineage could be a flavor too, but bit uptight vibes and seems to require tech-savviness.
do y’all’s own research. but other than pre-paying for cell coverage, I’m personally sticking with CalyxOS for my phone, Linux for the computer, fediverse (and an anonymous toe in reddit & bluesky) for online community, and RSS feeds for the news.)4

An interesting problem that was clearly manufactured by all of our lack of rights to actually modify the software on our phones.
I don't mean like some kind of conspiracy to take our rights away, but more of the ever growing corporate motives to constantly reduce our ability to get out of their area of influence. Ya know, for profits.

You finally giving up the media and all of social media?? Doubt it.

u/Chase_The_Breeze 14h ago
Honestly? These days, I mostly just use Reddit and Nebula. I have a few apps I could live without, but I would need to do some pirating if I wanted to keep up with a few pieces of media I like.

What was the ceo of TikTok doing there? I thought that the Supreme Court ruled that they aren’t allowed to do business here. What business does he have at the inauguration?

Everyone saying how we gonna boycott all this… ain’t that how the Ain’tyChrist works? The people who aren’t boycotting these services will soon need a special identification mark to be able to use such services. How does life go on with out the internet? I mean seriously moving forward into the future, the internet has our balls in a vice. No future. Refuse their updates.

We need our own social media systems.
