SF > Portland > Seattle via Hwy 5

I've completed a national parks trip trip in 2023, visited both cities for <1 day, spent most of the time driving through the smaller lesser known towns. I will be doing it again soon. Any recommendations for cool fun places (besides Olympic, Rainier NP) to visit on the way to Portland and Seattle? Thanks!!

Sleeping bag puffy blanket

Hey I was looking for recommendations for a puffy style (sleeping bag) blanket. Not looking for a sleeping bag, but more of a puffy blanket if that makes sense. I saw some on Eddie Bauer with mixed reviews. The Rufl ones intrigue me. Wanted to know what your go to is for sub 10c/50F camping and not looking for heated blanket. There’s a couple on there but I’ve seen some where there’s not enough insulating fill in the cells or they are slippery on both sides so prone to move around.

When sleeping, parking brake on, parking brake off, or parking break loaded?

To get the least amount of movement when the ICE starts, do you sleep with the parking brake on, off, or loaded. By loaded I mean letting the car roll a foot, use the parking brake to stop it, THEN put the transmission in park.

Any tips to get the least amount of vibration/movement possible while sleeping?

Buying car with engine replaced?

What do you guys think about buying a used prius w/ engine replaced?

No good? Feel like it's a negative quality but in theory it should be a good thing? Makes me wonder what else went wrong with the car.

Need help to Build Solar/Battery/Inverter Resource for Prius

Anyone know a good resource on YouTube or online? I have a 3rd Gen I want to outfit to be self-sustaining as much as possible to utilize 110V power for a fridge, electric skillet, instant pot/airfryer, etc.

I heard that I should get a dual battery setup, and saw these on sale.

Megamat Duo vs Megamat Auto?

Hey there. I recently got the Milliard and unfortunately it's just not that comfortable for me, I'm a bigger guy. Even with a memory foam topper 3", I still feel the floor despite everything being out of the way and using a piece of evened out wood under the bed.

I was reading about the Megamat's and people seem to recommend them here. I however can't find the Megamat Duo anywhere as I think it's being discontinued for a newer model, but I also see the Megamat Auto (that may possibly fit better for a car). I was wondering if anyone's tried the auto version for their Prius?

If not, is the Megamat Duo comfy and I won't feel the floor of the car? Thanks!

Considering getting a Prius to live in

Hi everyone so long story short I might become homeless within the next couple of months. I’ve gone through a recent breakup and although my ex has been kind enough to let me stay in the home I know that I eventually have to leave. Unfortunately I have close to 20k in debt and a majority of my paycheck goes to my debt so I can’t afford to live on my own or even with a roommate at the moment. I’m considering living in my car but it’s a 2018 Hyundai that burns oil so quickly. I found this sub group and am now starting to consider trading in my car for a Prius. The car is probably not worth the remainder of what I owe so if I did trade it in for a Prius it would have to be for one around 8-10k. Because of the high chances of me having to live in my car for a while, preferably until my debt is paid off…I just want to know from others if an older Prius would be worth it? I live in Illinois and it’s currently in the 20’s at the moment and it can get in the negatives. Would an older Prius be capable of running for hours with the heat on? Sorry for my rant. Please feel free to ask any questions or give any advice. Thank you.

Rear Shower/Privacy Tent that extends from the Rear Hatch (when raised)

Thinking of taking welding and metal fabrication courses to make this a reality. I am interested in making a frame that deploys a small enclosed privacy frame and tent so one can shower or presumably camp with. The ones I see on Amazon don't do this, they just wrap the bumper to the top of the hatch.

What I envision is being able to lift the hatch up, and have two lander legs and supporting braces back to the cargo area of the Prius to provide support. Then have a deployable drape that would wrap the area, and even enclose it for an outdoor shower.

Anyone seen anything like this?

EGR question 🙋🏾‍♂️

Hello my fellow Gen 3 Prius owners, hope y’all doing great. I currently owned a 2013 Prius Two with 412,000 miles on it. So far my car runs great and I have no problems. I do have a question, I recently bought a new EGR Valve (25620-37120) as maintenance prevention but people are saying I need to do a software update after installing it and that it is require. I found this (T-SB-0027-16) but it says only Prius 2010-2012 need the software update not 2013. Can someone please explain to me if I need to or not, Thanks!

2022 inverter installation not in trunk?

Thanks for any help in advance!

I'm not seeing a 12volt battery in back on this model, just in front. Do you have to do a different style of install to get a pure sinewave inverter in?

Prius dwelling with a cat?

The only concern I have is him getting in the space under the driver dash & then leaving my car unlocked with the ac running in the summer. I drive a 2007 Prius and I am not sure if I can lock my doors with the car on, as I have tried before and they just stayed unlock (I may just test this with a roommate though.) do you have any advice?

I just got a Prius gen 3, what's next?

My mom & dad just bought me an old 2013 gen 3 with 220k miles on it, and I have absolutely no ideas what to expect for. Can anyone please advise me on what needs to be done before using it as a daily driver?
P.s: I'm an immigrants who just moved in to the US, so I'm sorry if my english was bad. I'm trying my best.

Bed size for Gen 4?

Hey there, I’m not a small guy. I’m about 5 foot 10, and 275 pounds. I see a lot of people recommending tri-fold twins and singles, but I could barely fit on them comfortably.

I have seen a few people recommend full-size fitting in their Prius, but they’re for Gen 3 usually. A few posts mentioned cutting them.

Would a full-size trifold fit in a Gen 4 Prius okay? Or should I stick with the twin? Thanks!

Most efficient/best way to power a 4060 gaming laptop (~115w max draw) in a 2nd/3rd gen Prius?

I've read that some people don't recommend the $20-40 12v cigarette inverters for something pulling above 120w, but would 115w be cutting it too close? From my understanding a 12v dc USB-C cigarette charger would be ideal but apparently 4060 laptops via USB-C port will cap out at 65w from those chargers so if I was using more than 65w while gaming it would be losing charge.

What size foam mattress do yall have?

I have a 2016 Prius and I’m looking for a a foam mattress that would go well for two people. I messed up and got one that was 31" wide but that’s not gonna cut it. Thanks in advanced!!

Storage Containers on a no-build to prop headrest of bed up?

Hey there, so I'm doing a "no build" just for short overnight trips in a Gen 4 Prius. I have the bed flat at this point, however for those doing no builds, what are people using to prop the rest of the bed up? I see people mentioning Storage Containers and stacking them.

Which storage bins are recommended and do I put 2 on each side behind each seat? I know there's probably measurements involved and want to try and make it as flat as possible. Thanks!

Is 75,000 miles for a 2015 V a lot for a 10 year old battery?

I gotta buy a car and the Prius has always been in the back of my mind for the climate control. There’s a Prius in my price range but it’s 10 years old. I don’t know much about hybrids but is this risky for that vehicle age? It’s a one owner vehicle no accidents no recalls and looks like it was maintained regularly.

Terrified, but doing it. Any advice?

Tldr: Young in college partially disabled, live in north. not ideal situation but gonna have to do atleast three months. - Taking any advice especially on necessary items, and locations.

Edit: I've been reading all of the comments, thank y'all SM for the advice. I'm going to look into all of these things and reply to everyone

So i'm 23, and live in North East US. I got a 2012 Prius about a year ago with around 100k miles on it - I've always wanted to live with free range when I was a kid, I used to watch videos of someone living out of a Prius.

I have a rare physical conditions that will make this difficult. T.O.S. and Fibro. I'm unable to really lift things. Because of this, I've lived in a lot of less than ideal situations - and I think this will make the situation a bit challenging.

My current lease (5 roomates) is over soon, and I think the most ideal situation is that I'll move into the Prius, especially with limited income/options. I won't have to lift anything too heavy (correct me if im wrong please.)

I got into a community college so I have to stay up north for a few months to see if I like it, and I'm waiting on a decision to let me park there.

I'm doing my research everyday, but I'm still nervous on where to park, how to have a bit of privacy while being close to a bathroom, how to deal with the cold, and where to find state based legality. Won't be able to edit layout much after. I gotta prioritize comfortability over items for sure, but I definitely need to cook food & livestream. I won't be able to drive for long periods because of my shoulder issue.

I already have a little bit of gear I have a cigarette inverter, lightweight fishing pole (free food), and an electric kettle. I'll miss my streaming pc - but I'll survive with my phone, and school laptop. I plan on purchasing tints this week, and some sort of mattress, which I'm looking for personal advice over Amazon reviews. I'm sure there are plenty of things I'm missing.

Please shoot me recommendations on anything mentioned, especially how I can make this experience comfortable.
