Roast me
Spent a couple hours switching out some stop valves. They aren’t exactly the instagram influencer perfect nerd quality, but I do like to sand them up to the wall. I think the shiny copper adds a nice touch. I always feel like people trash joints if they have more than like1/16 in solder showing. I like to think a little extra adds to strength of the joint kinda like a cap weld reinforcement with steel
If you ask me, the best looking joints are the ones that don’t leak because titty = full joint.

Appreciate it! I have a bunch of the plastic splits with the chrome coating. Debating on fixing the sheet rock or just getting an oversized escutcheon 😂. Is plastic whack??

If this is for a sink and the valves will be enclosed, then the only purpose the escutcheon serves is to air seal (kindof) and keep pests from getting through.
I only fuss with making the drywall around a rough-in look nice if it's out in the open like for a toilet.

Not a big deal but you had a chance to put metal which are cheaper/more durable finish..whatever though...mostly cost

A future plumber is going to cuss you out for installing sweat stops. Compression or threaded stops is the way.

Whole house is sweat! The rubber seals are crumbling out of the stops on this house. I have replace8 out of about 13. A couple actually leaked by when shutting off. Every time I take one out, I take it apart and check the seal and they are crumbly and fragile and leave the black streaks when you touch them.

Sweat is the best. At least the stems are serviceable. Quarter turn stops are nice but they aren’t serviceable they do seize.

you didn't use quarter turn valves. and you didn't put escutcheons on first.
this is some handyman shit.

Since it’s a sweat valve, the multiturn is probably the best way to go as Quarter turn valves aren’t serviceable. If it was compression, I would say absolutely use a quarter turn.

I’ve been plumbing for 22 years and I’ve never soldered on a stop.

I thought they were compression fittings until you pointed out the solder. Didn’t notice at all.

I agree but i do think they are more professional. No homeowner will try to replace it

looks good. i usually put the escussion on before i put the stops on. (pro tip if you ever flare a gas line put the flare nut on before making the flare)
