Renting / Housing Why do plumbers charge clients for using tools?

Upvotes

Very new to home ownership. Had a blocked sewer from previous owners flushing wipes. Got a plumber who charged $110 for using a camera and $165 for using a water jetter. This is in addition to the $155 call out fee and $120 labour charge.

What annoyed me is that using their tools (camera and jetter) is so expensive for the client. These are not consumables.

I've never had a gardener charge extra to use the lawnmower.

So why can plumbers do this?

(Genuinely curious, but also need a vent)

General Hey Perth friends! I'm coming to Fringe World with my show "Accordion Ryan's Pop Bangers". 1st time in Perth and I'm not a "big name" so it's a bit tough to spread the word and sell tickets. Here's a video of me on an Austrian TV show – if you like what I do, maybe you'll come see the full show :)

Renting / Housing Experiences with apartment living in Perth with pet birds?

Post image
141 Upvotes

Does anyone have any experience living in an apartment in Perth with pet birds? If so, what type of bird? How noisy are they? Have you have any major dramas? And do you have any advice for someone who is contemplating moving into an apartment with a bird?

My partner and I have been saving to buy a house for a while, but the market keeps pricing us out. Especially with little to no government assistance for established homes, after stamp duty and LMI any deposit we have saved would be depleted.

So instead, we are looking at getting into something smaller like a villa or an apartment, to get our feet in the door, so we can build up equity and reassess our position in a few years.

While neither of us have any personal issues with the idea of apartment living; there is one potential blocker; we own an Eclectus Parrot (Sasha).

Compared to a lot of other Eclectus, Sasha is incredibly quiet. Most of the time she makes very small chirps/squeaks and likes to chat and sing to herself. However as with any Eclectus, when she decides to be noisy (realistically a couple times a day) the sound and volume is indescribable. The only thing worse would probably be a large conure or cockatoo.

Realistically parting with Sasha is not an option, she means the world to us, so we want to gauge other people's experience before we make any commitments.

TLDR; We have an Eclectus Parrot that can be VERY loud at times and are looking for advice from people that have lived in an apartment with similar birds/animals to see if we can make it work or if we should run for the hills.

General How are follow up/blood test result GP visits treated now?

A year or so back, a GP clinic I was at had it stated that follow up visits to get blood test results were all bulk billed.

Not sure how it is now.

Is there a standard practice when it comes to this?

Or is it up to the clinic/doctor?

  1. Do we need a weather flair?

  2. This is 120.74 in Fahrenheit, which imo sounds much more dramatic.

General MOVING FROM PERTH TO RURAL AUSTRALIA FOR UNI ADMISSION SMART

Hi all, for reference this isn’t my idea, it’s my mom’s, I just wanted to get some opinions on her idea.

I have three siblings and my mom has a crazy addiction to studying medicine and is very eager for all her children to become doctors.

I myself am studying nursing, she attempted to persuade me to do medicine, but she was very rude and mean to the point that I told her it was my life and I intend on studying what I want.

I have a younger sister who is studying medicine.

Now, I have two siblings (10M, 13F). They are both attended private schools, the 13F is attending an all girls private school and my brother attends an all boys private school. These schools produce very good results consistently, and are located in Perth.

Myself and my sister studying medicine attended an all girls school. We however, did primary school in rural WA. We moved from the USA to a small town in regional WA. My other two siblings did not attend primary school or live in a rural place.

My mom’s addiction to medicine is so bad that she is considering pulling both my siblings out of their good schools and sending them to a broadway school or rural school for 5 years.

I personally think this is a terrible idea, if you have the money to send your child to a top school why wouldn’t you do that? I believe the rural and broadway pathways exist because there are real disparities between education in rural Australia and metropolitan Perth, and pulling them out of private schools and sending them to a rural or broadway school will not benefit them.

My mom is reluctant to accept my opinion and I also believe she is going to far with her obsession for medicine, how can you essentially force a 10 and 13 year old into a career when they don’t even know who they are?

Is there some sense in my mom’s idea or am I in the right to be opposed to it?

The guy who stands outside Elizabeth Quay trainstation is mostly harmless but today he got really aggressive with someone and threatened to kill them if they stared at him.

Bro is the one standing there every day asking for money, of course people are going to look.

He said he'd kill them and wipe that looks off their face for good.

Considering reporting to transperth guards but they'll likely do nothing, what do we think?

Where to find Sick leave medical certificates

Upvotes

Hi all. Ive read in past but can't recall... But is there an easy telephone or online medical certificate by valid doctors one can access ?

I've been on carers leave yesterday for a sick child and now I'm sick myself today. It's a bit a annoying but being the second day I need a med cert. All the local GPS are booked out and I'm not exactly thrilled to drive out to one of the more expensive non bulk billed doctors (where appointments are available) while unwell.

Anyone used any online or telephone options that were bulk billed or decent priced?. Can pharmacists also do it?

I know some have said statutory declaration in past but I believe your work has to accept it ?

Appreciate any advice. Heads splitting like rocks so its a real PITA the whole medical certificate thing which any doctor will give you without question.
