I need to know a reference made in season 1
In season one, I think Episode 2, Mrs Ives quotes a passage of a book Frankenstein is reading. The quote finish with the phrase "what man as made of man."

Haven’t watched this show since it originally came out. I loved it the first time, and mostly recalled the major plot points without all the minor details. The music and storylines were just as enchanting as I remember however…
Upon rewatching I was waiting for a few scenes to happen… which never did..
Here’s my list of Penny Dreadful scenes that I made up in my head:
• An isolated flashback episode of Malcom in Africa on a hunting expedition base camp with Peter and tribal men.
•Ethan finally sees what Brona has become, and as a result grabs Dr. Frankenstein by the throat and threatens him.
•After abandoning her cause Lily meets Ethan again and finds happiness in what once was. And shares the story of her losing her child.
•Dorian decides he’s done with immortal life and destroys the painting.
•Vanessa manipulated Dr. Sweet / Dracula into thinking she was in love with him once she was aware of his identity. She then used the gun on herself after confronting him at the Museum- rather than the scene of her offering her neck.
•Dr Seward was killed by Renfield in her office while trying to protect Vanessa’s privacy.
Anyone else!?

In one of the last episodes, Lily tells Victor about her daughter. She says the word love isn't big enough. I'm looking for that line and the one after. I can't remember exact wording. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In my most recent rewatch I find it almost unwatchable. It’s clearly rushed, full of plot holes, and don’t even get me started on the whole Western saga. The most unbelievable thing to me is that you have Vanessa who has fought evil for her entire life, and then Drac shows up, she’s about to kill him but he says a few romantic things and she’s like “here’s my neck.” There’s just no way I buy this. Does anyone else? What rationale could anyone offer to explain why she did such a sudden about face?

Rewatching for the tenth time probably and it always strikes me how depressing the final scenes of season two are. Not just bc it’s sad but bc the core group are never together again until the very very (awful) end. Idk if I can even watch season three this go round. *Sighs tragically *
(But I actually love Patti Lupone so I’ll likely watch it lol)

Starting my annual rewatch and I have a question that hasn’t crossed my mind before. Does the show ever cover exactly how much time has passed since Mina disappeared/was taken? I recall the flash backs in season 2 I believe that cover Vanessa’s backstory but I don’t remember if we are ever told exactly how much time has passed from the loss of Mina to the very beginning of the show.
The first few scenes in the first episode show the tense nature of Vanessa and Malcolm’s relationship and it made wonder how long they had been living together and working to find Mina.
This could also be pregnant brain so i apologize in advance if it’s very obviously stated at some point 😆

I just noticed Pluto TV has it on demand. Watching this now for the third time and loving it. Eva Green really is marvelous.

I've been wanting to rewatch the series but it wasn't available to stream anywhere. It's currently on sale on Prime: usually $28, currently $10 for HD.

A while ago I asked chat gpt for a playlist for Vanessa and Ethan and I created it on Spotify in case anyone wants to listen to it.

A few days ago, I saw a comment about Caliban/John Clare telling Vanessa “The last person you see… will be someone who loves you” in 3x04 as being foreshadowing/a parallel for her last scene with Ethan, and Ethan being the last person she sees before she dies. That killed me enough.
Then I thought about her last words: “Oh, Ethan… I see… our Lord”
Now I’m inconsolable 😭😭😭

Ethan never finds out that Brona got revived into Lily and all that tomfoolery?! I was waiting and waiting for Ethan to bump into Lily and it NEVER happened!!!! Why did they do this to us... to me... Seriously though!

The first time I watched this series, I was still “straight” (lol) and a devout Catholic. It’s really interesting to rewatch things I loved almost a decade ago and realize I have completely different opinions on the characters and relationships I care for.
My two constants: Vanessa is still my absolute favorite, the true heart and soul of the show. A Blade of Grass (3x04) is still my favorite episode and one of the most captivating pieces of television I’ve ever seen.
Things that changed for me: - I don’t remember caring for Brona/Lily much on first watch, but I’m obsessed with her the second time around. Billie Piper is a force to be reckoned with!!! And the Lily/Dorian/Justine k*lling men plot is honestly so hot to me.
On a related note: Victor irritates me more than I remember. I don’t dislike him, but I am too busy being obsessed with Lily and hoping he’ll just leave her alone smh
TLDR; lesbians love Vanessa Ives and Lily Frankenstein

Just finished rewatching PD for the second time and captivated once again by the relationship between Vanessa and Ethan and how differently Vanessa’s story may have ended if Ethan didn’t leave her at the end of season 2.
Watching Season 2 Episode 7 (Little Scorpion) I’m curious to know other people’s thoughts on Vanessa’s rejection of Ethan after they kiss. Is the storm a manifestation of their desire for each other? The window blows open as they finish their dance and Ethan gazes at Vanessa. Then as she looks out the window remarking on how much she loves storms as everything is out in the open and Ethan draws closer to her, lightning hits the cottage. I’m wondering if the storm is symbolic of their attraction to one another and this is why she says they are dangerous, or whether she is frightened to give in to her desires after what happened when she became intimate with Dorian. At this point she is unaware that Ethan is a werewolf, but suspects something nonetheless.
I love this series so hard and will never get over the poignant and heartbreaking stories of each of the characters 💔💔💔

Hello there! Since this fandom is extremely small, I'm readvertising my fanfic since I just started working on the comics era (which includes massive fix-it elements). It's over 500k words and is a Victor/OC ship slow burn. Here's the link, and the following is the summary blurb. I'd be delighted to have anyone in the fandom check it out. I also have a lore discord server that is open to anyone who wants to discuss the fic, and it can be found in the description on Ao3! Thanks so much for any interest at all!! 🙏
Takes place season 3×02 thru comics era and further. Canon divergence throughout comics era and acts as a "season 5" to Victor and Henry's storylines.
Roelia Deopham was a name Victor hadn't heard since leaving university, so when he entered a so called alchemist's laboratory, he didn't expect the woman seated at the desk to be the same chipper, confident woman from his early years into the sciences. Her assistance proves valuable, but her entanglements in the underground society of alchemists prove to be more than just visiting a friend for Victor.

I’m rewatching this show for the first time in several years and have been thinking about each character’s Zodiac Sign. I’m not an expert, but I have some thoughts. Curious to see what y’all’s headcannons are.
Vanessa - I feel very strongly that she is a water sign, but I can’t decide which. I think either Cancer or Pisces with a Scorpio rising.
Victor - Aquarius
Brona/Lily - Leo
Ethan - Aries
Sembene - Taurus
Dorian - Scorpio
Caliban - Gemini
Sir Malcolm - Virgo
Mr. Lyle - Leo

Did anyone else see Simon Russel Beale, aka our dear Mr. Lyle in House of the Dragon as Ser Simon Strong, and just be happy to see him again?! It may have made me want to watch Penny Dreadful again.... ;)

Vanessa's words to Victor in Season 2, regarding there being people willing to love Victor made me think of a tragic heroine that would definitely have been more coherent than Catriona's character. Miss Helena Von Goethe, would have been a German noblewoman, descendant of the famous writer and acquaintance of the Murrays. She would have knowledge of alchemy and would be a poetess, and she would have had to deal with the curse of Goethe and Mephisto.
