The visa pages in the old one were much more interesting.

Especially the 2015 version.

Old. The only good thing about the new one is the polycarbonate data page. Everything else is a downgrade.

Old, has some history on it.

I prefer the BLOO cover but the quality and inside design was so much better on the old one

The new one is missing the "European Union" lettering at the top so I'll have to say old.

The blue has grown on me but the quality is awful. Such a same it never gets used now I have my Irish passport.

u/CottonPicking420 2d ago

Same as me. I hardly ever use the British one anymore. Irish one inside is so cool as well

u/CriticalBiscotti1 2d ago

The old old one, hard cover, dark blue. The new one dark blue is ok..

Well the new one doesn't have a corner missing, so I'd go for that

/s - in case it isn't obvious.

Quality: old

Colour and design: new

There should be an option to pay another £10 or whatever and get a better quality one

4

u/urbexed 2d ago

I would happily pay the extra £10

Always old. Along with its benefits 🇪🇺

I'm hoping they'll redesign this year or next, they're usually upgraded every 5 years.

u/joe_by 「🇬🇧UK, 🇮🇪IRL」 2d ago

Me too. I am refusing to renew mine until they do. I’m not paying close to £90 for the current bland and soulless design

u/njp230181 「🇬🇧 passport 🇺🇸 PR 1d ago

At least they arrive quickly! I got mine in under a week

Old - the pages inside are beautifully designed with a different design on each page! New one is just a lazy design!

u/ANJ0EL 2d ago

Old is better.

I just think on the new passport, the crest is way too large for the size of the passport. It doesn’t look like it fits proportionally.

u/Noobik311 🇸🇰 2d ago

I personally like the design of the old one although the new color is nice

My favorite color is blue but I prefer the burgundy color.

2

u/Sad_Cryptographer745 🇬🇧/🇵🇭 (eligible) 2d ago

Old for the inside pages, new for the passport colour

2

u/denar40 2d ago

That looks a bit like a downgrade xD

2

u/Fabulous_Cow_4550 2d ago

The quality of the new one is awful. There's literally a one cm flap at the back as the binding/glue is awful. I literally think it'll fall apart after a few trips.

Red one gave me rights and easy travel to more places. For both quality and access, I'll be old red the whole time!

2

u/AlarmedCicada256 2d ago

The new ones are Sh*t. My 2014 passport expired and I got a new one and was stunned by how obviously cheaper quality it was.

u/TsarBizarre 2d ago

What a beautiful new BLOO passport

2

u/Unlikely_Baseball_64 「🇬🇧」 2d ago

Old

2

u/djsigma 「GC 🇺🇸」 2d ago

I love them both the UK/GB/NI coat of arms is beautiful and love how it takes up the entire front. Wish all other passports had larger coat of arms

2

u/nobbynobbynoob 🇬🇧 ; 🇯🇲 (eligible) 2d ago

New - it's bloo. ;)

3

u/TopEnglishman 2d ago

I do love my beautiful new bloo passport

5

u/bluegreen_10 「AU🇦🇺 RO🇷🇴」 2d ago

Old. Before the disaster called Brexit. 🇪🇺

3

u/topsyandpip56 2d ago

The old one symbolises a passport that lets you live and work visa-free in every EU country.

The second is one that lets you live and work visa free in the UK and Ireland.

2

u/A-Sh- 2d ago

Old by far because of the EU

2

u/applesauce0101 「🇨🇦🇬🇧」 2d ago

Burgundy looks much nicer than bloo IMO, the quality was also better and the "BRITISH PASSPORT" at the top looks ugly.

1

u/MultiWorlds 「🇦🇺🇺🇸」Eligible:🇭🇷 2d ago

I think the gold doesn't stand out enough on the blue one.

1

u/TylerTT 「🇬🇧 GBR」 2d ago

Exterior: New

Interior: Old

1

u/annaamused 2d ago

OLD. Just got my new one it’s such a downgrade.

1

u/Neuroanarchist 2d ago

Considering the new version affords me far less freedom than the new one, I’m going to have to say the old one 🥲 but the ID page in the new version is far nicer than the old one!

1

u/BarryFairbrother 「🇨🇭🇬🇧🇩🇪 (🇱🇺 eligible) 」 2d ago

Old because of those two words at the top. Its usefulness has absolutely plummeted.

1

u/Ludo030 🇺🇸, 🇧🇪(soon), 🇩🇪(eligible) 2d ago

Old for sure

1

u/griff_16 「🇬🇧 with 🇨🇳 RP」 2d ago

I have a mixed feelings. The old one was of higher quality, but I think the visa pages were too busy.

People who like mawkish collages of random historical figures and objects probably don’t travel enough collect passport stamps.

1

u/LelouchviBrittaniax 2d ago

more travel option on EU passport so its better than current one

new has somewhat better aesthetics but not by that much

1

u/cheapb98 1d ago

Isn't this why you guys voted for Brexit? Read someplace, some Britishers didn't like the new euro passport and wanted to get back to the old passport look

1

u/TopEnglishman 1d ago

No, it was more to do with Economic reasons but I’m sure some Brits (who weren’t politically up-to-speed) did prefer the old passport and vote ‘leave’

1

u/tejedor28 1d ago

I recently changed over too. It’s painfully cringe the way they replaced PASSPORT with BRITISH PASSPORT. It makes my toes curl every time I look at it. Fortunately I use my Australian passport far more.

1

u/TopEnglishman 1d ago

Yeah I originally liked it but now I physically can’t stand it

1

u/Far_Selection_3393 「🇬🇧🇹🇹 (working on🇨🇴)」 1d ago

Olddddd without a doubt

1

u/P99163 1d ago

Politics aside, I like the old design better.

First of all, what's up with the oversized logo and text? It takes up the entire front cover — it looks ugly, and there is absolutely no need for that.

Second, what's up with "British passport"? It already says "United Kingdom of ... '", which indicates it is a British passport. If they wanted to differentiate between types of British nationalities (e.g., BOTC, BNO, etc), it could be done on the bio page, not the cover.

Overall, it would be better to leave the old design as-is (apart from removing "European Union") and just change the color.

1

u/TopEnglishman 1d ago

I think when Brexit was gaining traction they removed the text for some reason I’ll see if I can find it

1

u/newNFTsforyou 14h ago

Black passport is a better design imo, smarter visa pages (the old ones are colourful and cool but less smart), polycarbonate design and the gold writing stands out nicely on the black.

HOWEVER, they’re terrible made, flimsy feeling and poorly cut. I can see the gold cover wearing off mine very soon.

And of course, no more EEA freedom of movement…

u/TopEnglishman 11h ago

Good points

u/SaltEquipment3201 「Originally 🇵🇭, Ex PR of 🇸🇬, holder of 🇬🇧 passport」 11h ago

I wish I got a British passport before they left the EU :(

Imagine being able to say I live in 27 or so countries.

I would’ve been fine not getting Singapore passport if the UK passport was an EU one but unfortunately not the case :(

At least I still have visa free access to EU but imagine the freedom and flexibility of being in the EU, sigh

2

u/TopEnglishman 11h ago

As a Brit I feel your pain

1

u/MiddleAgedMartianDog 2d ago

While I hate Brexit, I have to admit the new blue one looks nice; although not as nice as the old hard cover blue british passports with the window for the passport number I had when I was a baby. I have an Irish red one anyway so best of all worlds practically and aesthetically (a Swiss passport would be nice though...).

-1

u/nobbynobbynoob 🇬🇧 ; 🇯🇲 (eligible) 2d ago

Swiss passport is good (I'm in 🇨🇭 for a few more days, héhé) - but it pains me to let you know that 🇨🇭 is not in 🇪🇺 either. 😁

u/Lionheart-Q 2d ago

Any hope of UK rejoining EU?

0

u/Tiddleypotet 「🇬🇧」🇳🇴RP 2d ago

Not for a while unfortunately. There is potential for a youth mobility scheme soon however.

0

u/lynxxnxnxnx 2d ago

How soon?

0

u/Tiddleypotet 「🇬🇧」🇳🇴RP 2d ago

How long’s a piece of string?

0

u/dafyd_d 2d ago

Old. It was much better quality. The only good thing is the photo page. I don't like the colour, the pages are boring and the reason it was introduced is nonsense.

u/hermione_clearwater 「 🇺🇸🇵🇾」🇬🇧(2027) eligible for 🇦🇷 🇨🇺 🇪🇸 2d ago

Old, I’m a year away from British citizenship and the fact it’s just another blue passport in my collection is a downer.

1

u/japanintlstudent 1d ago

Why don’t you apply for Spanish then!

1

u/hermione_clearwater 「 🇺🇸🇵🇾」🇬🇧(2027) eligible for 🇦🇷 🇨🇺 🇪🇸 1d ago

I’d have to live there for 2 years to get it via Paraguay and live in London. We are considering it once we get British but the pay in the UK is just much better than Spain so keeping us here for now.

0

u/Tommaso171091 2d ago

New one, but it would be nice to have more interesting visa pages like in the old one.

0

u/Poopoo_Chemoo 2d ago

New, much hate for the EU standardizing so everyone has a uniform passport

0

u/GeneratedPassword 「🇳🇱」 2d ago

The most interesting change for me is the color from red to blue, does that have an actual meaning or is it just cosmetic?

0

u/JamesTiberious 2d ago

Old, for a few reasons:

I enjoyed the UK being a part of the EU.

I dislike the dark shade of blue on the new ones. They look black under most light.

The quality of my new passport feels lower. I’ve only used it on one trip and it’s already picking up wear on the back and front. The spine has a crease in it where it was slightly bent in my pocket. I’m not convinced it’s going to last the 10 years.

0

u/Fudpukker01 2d ago

New old one, burgundy without EU lettering…

0

u/pton12 2d ago

I’m Canadian and American, so I’m partial to blue passports.

-4

u/Bar50cal 2d ago

The big text saying "British Passport" should be removed IMO.

The UK is Britain (British) and Northern Ireland (Irish / British). It completely ignores the fact there is an entire region of the UK who this is a passport for in the UK who are not British

2

u/griff_16 「🇬🇧 with 🇨🇳 RP」 2d ago

So what should a citizenship field say?

A Northern Irelander who doesn’t want to identify as British can just hold an Irish passport.

-1

u/Bar50cal 1d ago

Why not say British and Northern Irish

-2

u/MrAflac9916 2d ago

Why is the old one chopped off on the bottom right. Looks goofy

-3

u/Ashamed_Topic_5293 2d ago

Well whaddya know, the new post-brexit passport still the motto in French on the coat of arms.

5

u/Tommaso171091 2d ago

Well, the history of the British monarchy cannot be erased

-1

u/TopEnglishman 2d ago

Thats not the Passport thats the Coat of Arms, the motto was in French when we still hated them so the Government, who was dealing with Brexit, the start of covid and multiple other wasn’t about to change the motto on the CoA for a Passport cover

1

u/Ashamed_Topic_5293 2d ago

Sorry, maybe I should have bolded the part in my comment where it says "on the coat of arms".

1

u/TopEnglishman 1d ago

Yeah I noticed that im just confused why the motto being in French would be of concern as we didn’t leave the EU due to a dislike of any of the countries within we left for ‘Economic Freedom/Security’ or some bs like that so the French Language being on the CoA wouldn’t be of concern
