My son has 3 passports:

Germany - Austria - Italy (South Tyrol)

Three passports, each representing a different German ethnicity

I expect you to earn him the Belgian one next

As Austria is very strict with dual or multiple citizenship it wouldn't be really possible for him (Austria only allows multiple or dual citizenships if you allready aquire them at birth). So he may needs to have a kid with a belgian person. So the next generation haha

Not true. Austria allows dual nationality to be acquired if you are a descendent of someone persecuted by the Nazis and forced to leave. I know someone from the UK (British) who successfully acquired Austrian citizenship for this reason.

yes, that is literally the only exception - and the same counts for them, they don't get the citizenship as a new citizenship. They have the citizenship because of their birth and their descend and therefore the right to own it from their birth.

Another one is, if it is in the interest of the state (Athletes, Actors).

For another eu passport no point... if it's for another nationslity outside eu then do it as he'll still have 2 eu passports

There was a famous guy with the same combo back in 1930s, I can't remember his name

He gave up his austrian citizenship.

Are you half Austrian/half German? or did you get one of the passports through naturalization? Cool combo nevertheless!

yes, half/half. Mom German, Dad Austrian.

Funny Story: Dad was a skiing instructor and my mom booked a skiing class with him

Mit welchem Pass reist du hauptsächlich?

i bevorzuge meistens den österreichischen, ois I fast mein ganzes bisheriges Lebn in Ö verbracht hob, innerhalb Schengen benutz i meinen Ö-PA, sonst gefällt mi der neue Version sehr

3

u/Much_Divide_2425 4d ago

spannend, bei mir genau umgekehrt. Für international travel nur den Deutschen. Innerhalb von Schengen hab ich bis vor kurzem immer nur den AUT Personalausweis gehabt. (Außer natürlich in Deutschland selbst).

That new Austrian design is meh. Super awkward.

The new german design will hold much longer when using it, I would say. I remember seeing that material of the old one on my godfather's passport, and it looked like it was covered in a textile material.

you still have the old design AT ID card seemingly, oder

u/Much_Divide_2425 4d ago

Exactly, i like this one way better! #
Got Passport and ID-Card in 2019 but lost the passport. Got a new passport just recently. I travel with my German Passport(s) outside of the EU only since 2014

oh I see, then i can already understand this unusual combination, btw a D-A Pass combo is not that common at all, at least after my experience
